The Great Ocean Road awaits
Located just south of Geelong towards the end of the world-famous Great Ocean Road, the Victorian town of Torquay has been a popular vacation spot for more than a century. Though the town, inspired by an English seaside town, is quaint, there is a burgeoning youth scene which can be seen in the many surfing stores that line the main shopping street. Just a short wander from your Torquay vacation rental is Bell Street, where you'll find an abundance of cozy little cafes, great eateries and retails stores that keep even the pickiest shopper satisfied.
Surf, surf and surf
Torquay's surfing theme continues in its attractions and events. When you stay in a Torquay vacation rental, be sure to visit the Australian National Surfing Museum – the world's largest – which houses historical documents which point to the origin of the sport and plenty of old artifacts and memorabilia. While the museum may only interest diehard fans, what everyone will enjoy is the Rip Curl Pro surf competition. Held every April on the Easter weekend for more than 50 years, it is the longest-running international surfing championship in the world.

Something for all seasons

The summer months over Christmas and New Year when the kids are out of school is the busiest and hottest season to travel. You'll want to book early if you plan to travel over this time. In the fall between February and March, the temperature cools somewhat, but it can still be gloriously warm and quieter. While water sports are out in winter, you can view passing whales.

As you drive the winding coastal route, you can spot bounding kangaroos, cuddly koalas hugging the gum trees and gliding coastal birds. Further along in the Melba Gully, be amazed by the glow-worms or watch fluking whales, playful dolphins and basking seals out to sea and along the beaches. Truly one of the world's wonders.
