Jacksonville, OR, is as cool as it is cute
Billed as 1 of America's coolest small towns, J'ville has more than a few reasons you should add it to your visit list. About 5 miles west of Medford, Orgeon, many Jacksonville vacation rentals offer scenic views of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. Gold prospectors used to pan for gold in Jackson Creek, and when they struck it rich in the 1850s, boomin' J'ville briefly became Oregon's largest city. San Francisco immigrants also established Oregon's first Chinatown here. Much of the town is now a National Historic District with a quaint little main street.
J'ville's got it goin' on with history, culture and music
If you wonder where that gold went, check out the historic Beekman House museum and Native Plant Arboretum. The Beekmans were a local family who struck it rich. Applegate Lake in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is worth the 20-mile drive 5 times over. Its aqua waters are as clear as it gets. J'ville might be small but it attracts big talent, which you can see at the open-air amphitheater Britt Pavillion. Got kids? Take them to the Rogue Valley Family Fun Center, an indoor/outdoor entertainment hub with arcade games, rides and mini-golf.
An awe-inspiring autumn and a spring to make you sing
If you're looking for a Jacksonville vacation rental in the spring or fall, get ready for a real treat. The area simply explodes with color, from wildflowers and fruit tree blossoms in spring to spectacular changing leaves during autumn. Not surprisingly, these stunning seasons are also the busiest. The summer is thoroughly pleasant, with low humidity and July highs hitting the upper 80s. Winter brings sporadic rain and an occasional dusting of snow, with the rainiest months happening from November to January.
Lots of wildlife to go with the local folklore
It's no exaggeration that this landscape will blow your mind with its brilliant vistas. This town is nestled in the foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains and many Jacksonville vacation rentals are surrounded by pristine green space. This area's a haven for owls, butterflies, eagles, foxes, black bears and so much more. Maybe even, if you like to indulge in local folklore, a sasquatch? Applegate Lake's 18-mile shoreline is a great place to explore some wildlife and get one with nature. Bonus if you manage to snap a Bigfoot pic.
