Houston, we ain't got a problem
It's no secret that Texans like to do things BIG! And Downtown Houston, America's fourth largest city, is no different. An area dominated by dozens of dazzling skyscrapers, a Downtown Houston vacation rental makes a great base to reach of all of Houston's top attractions. Have an out-of-this-world experience at Space Center Houston, get deep and meaningful at Downtown Aquarium, and keep the kids busy at the interactive Children's Museum of Houston. After dark, venture out to Downtown's buzzy Theater District for a showstopping performance at the Houston Grand Opera.
Downtown Houston - it's ground control to Major Fun
There's something to be said about being in the heart of a city. A Downtown Houston vacation rental makes a great base for exploring some major Houston attractions. A 20-minute drive south of Downtown is the Children's Museum of Houston, which has dozens of cool and interactive exhibits the whole family will enjoy. But for a real out-of-this-world experience, head a 45-minute drive south to Space Center Houston. Budding astronauts can explore the NASA Johnson Space Center on a tram tour, visit the Space Museum and touch a moon rock, or have lunch with an astronaut.
Houston simply sizzles on hot summer nights
Houston is a city of extremes. And that goes for the climate too. In the summer, between June to August, subtropical Houston gets hot and humid, with temperatures often breaking the 100-degree mark, so make sure to bring that SPF. Thanks to this famed Texan heat, most Downtown Houston vacation rentals come equipped with air conditioning that will keep you cool as a cucumber during the summer months. It starts to cool down a little in the fall, but this brings the odd shower, so pack a raincoat. Winters in the city are mild, with snow a rare occurrence.
Meet the hummingbirds of Houston
An hour's drive north of the Texan Gulf Coast, Downtown Houston is a big ol' city in South Texas. The closest green space for walks and nature trails is the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, a 15-minute drive west of Downtown. It's home to a small sanctuary where you can get up close to hummingbirds and butterflies. There are over 5 miles of attractive nature trails, a wetlands area and lush meadows, which are home to a variety of wildlife, including turtles, bullfrogs and raccoons. There's also a visitors' center, which offers guided tours and parking.
