About Clare Byrne
We live near Guildford in Surrey. We have 3 children who have grown up loving our 'Cornwall home'. We run a business together and love to regularly travel to The Old Barn as a fantastic place to unwind and relax.
Clare Byrne purchased this Barn in 2001
Why Clare Byrne chose Jacobstow
The Old Barn is a truly special place offering complete solitude if required, yet within minutes of glorious beaches, countryside pubs and glorious walks. 15 mins from Bude to the North and Camelford to the South. Rock/Padstow just 30 mins away. The Old Barn holds precious family memories for us all and is one of those few places in the world you walk into and just relax and unwind immediately!
What makes this Barn unique
The view from the patio is just amazing! Rolling fields and the distant noise of cows and sheep ensure you relax as soon as you enter! The Old barn has always been one of those truly special places for our family. On a clear night, the stars are magical as there is no light pollution. The living room and large granite fire place, with wood burning stove is equally delightful both in Summer and for those dark Winter evenings! Along with BT Infinity Fibre-Optic WIFI connectivity straight into our home; integrated BOSE surround system and 42 inch flat screen LG TV (with extensive BT TV channel availability, including all BT Sports and HD channels) - all your audio-visual and communications needs are catered for!

The property was clean and spacious, lovely powerful showers, well equipped kitchen.
Loved the location of this property was in easy reach of some lovely beaches and close to the A39 so you can easily explore other parts of Cornwall. Was a big shame the weather was a bit cold to fully enjoy the lovely sitting room. Lovely well kept garden. Really enjoyed our stay can't wait to return.
Lovely stay, definitely recommended
Great stay, the property has all amenities so one really feels like home. Good location, within easy reach of all attractions in Cornwall (by car). We could not get the lights to work in the car port, and there was an occasional smell of animals, though that is to be expected from an area with working farms. The garden is great for kids (weather permitting), and the lounge is quite impressive. If possible, we would really rate this property as 4.5 stars, and we are thinking of possibly trying it again sometime in summer. The owners are really great communicators and were very prompt with answering to all questions we had, many thanks.
Thanks for such a lovely review Eugen. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay!
We look forward to seeing you in the Summer perhaps!

Lovely peacefully located Cornish home
We very much enjoyed staying in this lovely peacefully located Cornish home. Our two weeks there in unseasonably poor weather was compensated by having such comfortable and complete facilities. Thank you – Peter and Sheila Penney – Evesham
Thank you so much for your lovely review Peter. We hope to welcome you back soon.

Lovely house situated in a great location
We enjoyed a lovely family holiday here. There was plenty of space for us all and we loved the large beamed sitting room! The house was well equipped and the large private garden was very peaceful and relaxing. The quiet location was great to come back to and yet only 10 minutes from the coast. Highly recommended!
Lovely property in a fabulous location
We had a very enjoyable week at The Old Barn. We come to Cornwall every year for a break and have to say this was once again a fabulous location, only a few minutes drive from Crackington Haven which is one of our favourite beaches. The house is spacious and well equipped and in lovely open countryside even though it is just a short drive from the A39, giving good access to so many places.
The only reason it is not a 5 star review is that the kitchen really has seen better days, and no longer really up to the standard of the rest of the cottage. Otherwise though, a fabulous stay. The cottage has a large garden surrounding the property and lovely views from bedrooms. A very quiet location for a restful stay.
There is so much to do along the north coast of Cornwall with so many fabulous places being within easy reach of this cottage. The Cabin Cafe at Crackington Haven was absolutely our favourite place to go for food. The atmosphere is so relaxed, while the food is locally sourced and delicious. The BBQ's in the evening are great fun.
Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay.
We take your comments about our kitchen on board, although all other guests have said they like the 'farmhouse design'. I suppose this is all about personal taste, but we are trying to maintain the 400 year old Barn integrity which we are passionate about.
However - we accept your feedback and will take it on board when we are planning improvements, which we do on an annual basis.

Beautiful barn in picturesque location
Beautiful barn in stunning picturesque location. Worth every penny. Helped by the weather which was wonderful most of the week and even a few suntans were started. Woke up on the leaving morning to heavy rain which we took as time to go home. Garden was a joy for 4 football mad boys, and all games played with the backdrop of sheep and cows. The beds are so comfortable we struggled to get out each morning but that's what holidays are about. The Living room with wood burner was a perfect place to end the day. With 4 boys the uninterrupted WiFi was brilliant only lost was when electricity company came to replace the lines and power switched off for most of the day. We visited several beaches along the Bude coast road, which in itself should not be missed. Other places of interest we visited were Launceston Steam railway and Padstow. We even managed to get quay side parking in the land of Mr Rick Stein. We would highly recommend the property and would love to return one day. Word of caution. The slope to the garage is quite steep and several time caught the underneath of the car, so take it slow. Only a small issue on otherwise a perfect holiday.
Thanks so much Darren for such a lovely review. We are so glad you had a great time in our Cornwall home!
See you again soon we hope!

The famous seaside village of Boscastle is only approx. 10miles away. A visit to Trebarwith Strand and The Port William Pub is a favourite of ours, as is a walk on beautiful Daymer Bay and visits to the wonderful surfing beach of Polzeath and lunch at The Rock Inn. Also, get the ferry from Rock over to Padstow for the day. Bude is 15 mins away by car and has a great selection of surf shops and other general shops, cafes, restaurants and fantastic beaches. Summerleaze beach is a favourite of ours. Finally, a pint at The Bay View Inn along the coast road from Bude to Widemouth Bay is a must. A great pub, as is The Coombe Barton on the beach at Crackington Haven and The Wainhouse Inn (our 'local' closest to The Old Barn). If you love fish and chips...take a trip to Camelford and visit 'Peckish'. It has won Fish and Chip shop of the year countless times and you will not be disappointed! Other favourite restaurants of ours are, Life's a Beach in Bude; The Bay View Inn at Widemouth Bay; Sunday roast at The Wainhouse Inn; The Port William at Trebarwith Strand; The Rock Inn at Rock.
