Khuekkhak – a quieter Thai coastline
Further north up the Andaman Coast from the buzzing bars and expat dives of Phuket, Khuekkhak offers a totally different vision of seaside Thailand. Cotton-white bays of sand lapped by a glinting turquoise sea come enfolded by high mountains. That covers 125 square kilometers and is a curiously-shaped reserve that wiggles inland from the beaches to cover soaring peaks and dense rainforests. The waterfalls are its piece de resistance. Don your expedition gear and head out to find them – the 5-tiered Lam Ru Waterfall is the most dramatic, but the hidden Shangri-La of Ton Chong Fa is also worth the trek. Wildlife lovers can enjoy a Thai safari in the park. Tapirs and macaques, serpent eagles and rare butterflies, are all waiting to be spotted.
