If you are searching for a vacation destination that will take you back to a slower pace of life in the South, look no further than Edisto Beach. Edisto Beach is a remote small town located on the southeastern coast of South Carolina, and it is home to less than 450 permanent residents. You can truly get away from it all while making magical memories with your loved ones on your vacation when you stay in an Edisto Beach rental house. Many of the rental houses on Edisto Beach are located just steps from the sun-kissed shores, making it convenient for you to enjoy the sun and surf throughout your getaway.
There are two main ways for you to enjoy time at the beach while staying at your rental house. Because the community is rather long and narrow, you may find a number of rental houses with beachfront access or just a short walk from the beach, so you can walk to the beach from your rental. The other option is to head to the nearby Edisto Beach State Park. This park is located just northeast of the community, and it spans across several miles of shoreline. It also provides you with some common amenities, such as restrooms and picnic areas.
Despite the community's small size and rather remote location, there is a lot to see and do in this area. For example, you can shop for delicious local food at the Kings Farm Market, and you can prepare the food in the kitchen in your vacation home. You can also tour the Botany Bay Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area or the Edisto Island Serpentarium to learn more about local wildlife. At the Edisto Island Museum, you can explore the history of the region through exhibits and displays.
Many people who vacation in Edisto Beach will prepare their own meals in their rental house's kitchen, but you may want to head out for a meal on the town from time to time. There are two dining options in the local area that you can enjoy, and both are fabulous options to consider. First, the Kings Farm Market has prepared foods that you can take home to heat up, and this is a great way to enjoy the comfort of dining in without having to cook the entire meal on your own. George and Pink's is the other venue to purchase food from. This venue has everything from fresh local produce to homemade pies that you can savor for dessert.
There is no bad time of the year to visit Edisto Beach, but you may find that the best beach weather is enjoyed in the summer months. During the summer months, you can expect average high temperatures to range from the low 80s to the low 90s, and record highs are in the mid 100s. The average high in the winter months is in the high 50s to low 60s, but the area does receive some light snowfall during a typical year. The annual rainfall total for the year is 51 inches, and there are 112 average rainfall days.
The easiest way to get to Edisto Beach in most cases is to travel to Charleston first. Charleston does have a major airport that you can fly into, or you can travel by car along Interstate 26. From Charleston, take Highway 27 west. Then, turn south onto Route 174, and follow this road into Edisto Beach.
