Water features are filled with waterfalls that flow in and out of four major rivers including the Siuslaw and Umpqua.
Florence sits in the midst of the ocean, mountains, and forests. Getaways to this location are overflowing with whale watching, tree and bird cataloguing, and hiking. Sand dunes showcase beaches on the Pacific Ocean, while fishing and more hiking draw tourists inland.
Anglers can take their pick of the type of excursions to enjoy. There is deep sea fishing for tuna, rock fish, or halibut off the coast of Coos Bay. For those who want to stay on the bay each season offers a different species to catch. Chinook runs through the summer followed by Salmon and Coho in the early winter. The winter steel-head is available from December until March. Fly-fishing trips on the rivers or in lakes yield more salmon and steel-head.
There is quite a bit of rain in this region of the country with a mild climate year-round. A minimal amount of snow falls with less than an inch annually. The ocean keeps the summer thermometers under 70 degrees, while winters drop it to the upper 30s.
Private cars and RVs with horse trailers are a popular way to reach Florence. Flights from nearby Portland International or Eugene Airport are heavily travelled gateways to the area. All major rental companies are available at each one with cars to use during the vacation. The summer is idyllic for motorcycle getaways as well.
