Perfect practical cottage for families

4 of 5
This cottage is even more spacious than the photos suggest, with lots of nice features such as a small welcome basket on arrival and plenty of kitchen pots and dishes and extras like an immersion blender! A great family cottage, not too rustic with wifi and Netflix and 2 Tvs and Whitepoint close by, but also not so fancy that you worried about tracking sand in with you. We found a trail through their backyard that made it quicker to walk to Whitepoint. However, don't expect to be able to bike the trail to Whitepoint, but you can take the longer way along the road. The beds and pillows are very comfortable, with yet more extra fuzzy blankets and cushions. They have thought of everything, right down to the beach chairs and lawn games. No problem signing in each day at Whitepoint and enjoying their facilities and beach, but could also wander farther. There is even a wood stove and a heat pump and fans for hot or cool weather. We'd love to come back.

Spectacular views and great location on Nova Scotia's south shore

4 of 5
Marc and Katherine's house has just about the best views of any house we've ever stayed in. You just cant't beat sitting on their spacious, beautiful porch looking out over the Medway river with unobstructed views towards the ocean. Also it's the first thing you'll see after waking up in the morning, the views from the master bedroom are spectacular. The location of the house is great on Nova Scotia's south shore which is beautiful and where there is a lot to see and do. If you stay here we highly recommend going out and using their kayak, which is parked right on their dock. You'll have a great trip. We paddled from the house down river to Port Medway which is a nice, quiet village with a few small galleries and a little restaurant (Port Medway grocer) with excellent food, very original dishes, where you can have lunch before you paddle back. If you do go out please do take into account the tides though. It's best to paddle out during the last part of low tide and to make your way back with the tide going in. It took us about four hours out and back with a stroll through town and paddling into the tide going back. On our trip we saw several seals coming to check us out, some otters and an eagle. From the house we went whale watching in westport on Brier Island, about a 3 hour drive away. Halifax and Peggy's cove are about an hour and a half away. There is an indoor jacuzzi for relaxing evenings (again the views!) and in which our two young children found a great 'swimming pool'. Otherwise the house is basic, but you will find everything you need. It's situated on a very large wooded piece of land guaranteing a very calm and quiet stay. Except for maybe the howling of some coyotes.
