Noel Shore: Cottages, Houses & More (6)

Quiet cottage in a grand landscape

              5 of 5
This is a newly finished cottage, nestled among trees in the corner of a large field that slopes down towards the shore. There are lots of windows to let the cross breezes flow through. You're surrounded by trees, and from the deck you can look down through the woods to a brook. Even after the severe drought this year, there was still some water in the brook. It must really babble in the spring. There is a distant ocean view too, and you'll want to walk down the field to the private shoreline to experience it directly. It really does feel like a retreat from the world. Many Nova Scotians are not familiar with the "Noel Shore", despite its proximity to Halifax, the Annapolis Valley and Truro. I live on the beautiful South Shore, but I'm captivated by the landscape of the Noel Shore with its rolling hills and deep clay soil that grows big trees. The water is very different too, a gentler inland sea with huge tides. When the tide is out, you can walk forever on a Mars-like landscape that reveals itself twice a day. When the tide comes in at the end of a sunny day, the sand warms the water and it can make for nice swimming. The kitchen is well-equipped; we cooked full meals there for the 3 of us. Buy your groceries before you get here; there is limited selection locally. There are excellent restaurants about a half-hour drive east and west, and good pizza to the south. If you need internet, talk to the owners. If you're a heavy user and don't have a good data plan, the turbo hub is quite expensive. It's not for online gamers or watching movies, and there are other precautions to take (e.g. turning off automatic updates and photo synching from your phone) so you don't get a surprise. This is a great base for exploring other parts of Nova Scotia, but plan to spend some time right there too, exploring the shore and relaxing among the trees.

              Great cottage!

We had a great stay at the cottage. It had everything we needed and we had a very enjoyable 4 nights. The one drawback is that you have to cross a road and go down a fairly step slope to get to the water but we knew that going in and it wasn't really that big a deal. The bed was comfortable and the screened in sunroom was great for sitting and enjoying the evenings. Jamie was very helpful with answering questions and giving us all of the information we needed. I would definitely stay here again.

              Pictures don't do it justice!

We've rented many properties and this one is a real gem. The house has beautiful views of the water and was absolutely spotless. We have small children and it was perfect for kids. There are acres of land for the kids to play in, and they loved the warm water in the tide pools when the tide went out. There is a waterfall on the property and gorgeous multicolored wild flowers at the waters edge and surrounding the house. It was very quiet and peaceful and we saw only one person the beach during our stay. The owners Sandy and Carol were friendly, helpful and were very respectful of our privacy. Definitely five stars!
