The weather in Bald Head Island is typically rather mild and humid because of its location right on the Atlantic coast. As is the case with much of the coast of North Carolina, Bald Head Island has a humid subtropical climate with four distinctive seasons. The winters are often mild with brief, light or infrequent snowfall. The average high in the winter months is in the 50s with average lows in the 30s. Summer is a time for high levels of humidity. Average high temperatures in the summer are in the 80s and 90s, and lows are in the 70s. This is often the wettest time of the year because of tropical storms and hurricanes that may pass through or near the area from time to time. The driest month is usually April.
Because Bald Head Island does not have a bridge leading to it or an airport on the island, the main method of transportation is via ferry service. You can fly into Wilmington's airport and rent a car, or you can drive your own vehicle into the airport. From there, you can travel south on Highway 17 to connect to Highway 87 south. Highway 87 connects to Route 277, which is the road that leads to the ferry service to the island.
