Treat Your Family to a South Haven Vacation House

A relaxing trip to beautiful Lake Michigan is just what you and your family or friends need to unwind from the stresses of your normal lives, and a stay in a South Haven vacation house will give you all of the space that you need to feel right at home. Imagine taking in Lake Michigan views from the patio or deck of your vacation rental while you make dinner on the grill. This can be your vacation experience when you choose to travel to South Haven and stay in a vacation rental home.

Beaches

If you are planning to spend time exploring all that South Haven has to offer in the warmer months of the year, you should pack your bathing suit and beach towels so that you can enjoy the seven area beaches while at your Michigan rental house. These beaches on Lake Michigan and the Black River add to the fun times that await you in this area, and some of them include North Beach Public Park, South Beach, Belvedere Beach, Woodman Beach Access, Dyckman Street Access and others.

Outdoor Recreation

The South Haven area is known for its spectacular beaches and its many miles of coastline on Lake Michigan, but it also is known for being home to several outdoor recreational spots that you can explore from your vacation rental. For example, the area is the western terminal point for the Kal-Haven Trail. This is a trail that is popular with snowmobilers in the winter months as well as cyclists, and it runs more than 33 miles to Kalamazoo. Nearby, you will also find Van Buren State Park and Van Buren Trail State Park, which offer hiking, picnicking and other outdoor recreational activities.

Attractions

There are numerous attractions and points of interest located throughout the South Haven area, and these include the famous South Haven Lighthouse. This lighthouse is often photographed extensively by tourists. The Liberty Hyde Bailey house is a preserved point of historical interest, and it is now home to a museum. Other attractions include the Michigan Maritime Museum, the Historical Association of South Haven, the Michigan Flywheelers Museum and a city ice rink that operates in the winter months.

Weather

South Haven's climate is dramatically impacted by its location on Lake Michigan, and this causes the area to have rather high humidity throughout much of the warm weather season. The warm weather season spans across June through September. While the average high during these months is only in the 70s, record highs are in the 90s and low 100s. The average high during the winter months from December through February is in the 30s. South Haven receives approximately 33 inches of rain as well as 85 inches of snowfall each year. The rain falls fairly evenly throughout the warmer months of the year and drops off in the winter months when snowfall is common.

How to Get There

South Haven is home to a regional airport, the South Haven Regional Airport, which is located just south of the city. This airport receives limited flights throughout each week because of its small size. Those who need access to a larger airport to fly into South Haven may need to travel to nearby Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo or South Bend for air flights. Many who are traveling from Michigan and surrounding states to South Haven will choose to make a scenic drive into the area. Interstate 196 passes right through town, and it connects to Interstate 94 and 96 outside of town for your convenience while traveling.
