The beach is divided into two areas by a peninsula that is home to a lighthouse. The Long Sands Beach is to the south and Short Sands is to the north. As their names imply, the Long Sands Beach is larger than the Short Sands Beach though both have their advantages. Long Sands beach has a designated area for surfing. Both beaches have metered parking areas, but it is harder to find a spot at Long Sands Beach. Both beaches also have their own bathhouses and lifeguards on duty from late June to Memorial Day. Long Sands Beach is located near houses and hotels which is nice for those staying at those properties. Short Sands Beach is located in walking distance to the downtown area, which is convenient if you want to grab lunch, play in the arcade, or stroll through the beach shops.
This lighthouse is accessible by driving or via a short walk. While you cannot go inside the lighthouse, it is still fun to look at, paint, or photograph. Parking is available near the lighthouse. You can walk around Nubble or walk on the trail on the south side to the shore. The adventurous may enjoy climbing on the giant rocks on the shore. You can bring a picnic lunch and go fishing if you choose to. In addition, a gift shop and restroom facilities are available.
York’s Wild Kingdom is part zoo and part amusement park. With many animals from all over the world, the zoo is known for its exotic species, including a White Bengal Tiger. This venue also has a variety of family rides, a haunted house, paddleboats, miniature golf, and a picnic area.
