                        Recent Tulane - Gravier Reviews

                        History, beauty and character

                        5 of 5
When we planned our inaugural trip to New Orleans, we knew we wanted a memorable experience; without question that had to include where we stayed. It didn't take us long to find Maison Vitry and when we did, we booked it immediately. We were beyond excited about its rich history, its careful and thoughtful restoration, and the opportunity to immerse ourselves in such elegant, quirky character. Will met us in front when we arrived, and I was beyond thrilled to enter through those doors. When we stepped inside I was speechless. Tears welled up in my eyes, the swelling in my throat grew, and my breath was taken away. He took us on a tour of his home, proudly sharing its history and his acquired treasures along the way. It was everything I'd envisioned and so much more. It is beautiful. It has more character than I'd imagined, despite me having studied it, told its story and shared its pictures the months and weeks prior. During our stay I took nearly a memory card full of pictures and shared them with everyone I knew, allowing all to live vicariously through us. We even brought along a "Flat Autumn" (Flat Stanley) for a friend's niece's third grade school assignment. I've since shared the many links to the home's features in publications, web sites and reviews alike. I've been asked for contact information and have happily recommended this beautiful home to all I know. We are hopeful our travels take us back to New Orleans and if they do, we hope we can return to this incredible home. It's not often you can literally feel a home and its history, but here you can. The neighborhood bears its own rich history as well, truly a mix of all that makes New Orleans such an interesting place. Many remnants of Hurricane Katrina can still be seen, which only make it more interesting to explore and experience the strength of the community.

                        Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed Julia's home, very comfortable and immaculately clean. Having 2 full bathrooms was great. We really appreciated how accessible Julia was, and how quickly she responded to our many questions by phone or email. The location is just terrific for getting onto the Canal St. streetcar - both to Jackson Sq and City Park (and the fairgrounds if you're going to Jazz Fest like we did). If you have a car, being in this part of Mid-City is also great - easy to get to most parts of greater New Orleans from this central location. We really enjoyed being in a "real" neighborhood, where folks hang out on their front porch and say "hello" as they pass you on the sidewalk. We highly recommend a stay in Julia's home - we'd come back in a heartbeat!
