A classy and spacious property in Umbria

5 of 5
This beautifully renovated , spacious house is located in a beautiful part of Umbria and is ideal for large families or groups. There is access to superb facilities ( fantastic restaurants, bars and pools) all within walking distance. However it is also an ideal base for exploring further afield in both Umbria and Marche. An ideal base for either a relaxing and indulgent break or a holiday of exploration ( culture / scenery / culinary / vineyards ) - the hosts are bursting with local knowledge of whatever tickles your fancy which standard guidebooks won't even mention. We went on some amazing winery tours / tastings facilitated by our hosts. I will definitely be going back - there is so much more to see in beautiful Umbria. Thanks

You'll Love It!

For 25 years, we had thought about staying in one place for a month. We decided on Umbria first and then seeing the pictures of Gran Panorama, its location and learning a little more about Spello, we made our decision. We had an absolutely wonderful month there. The pictures show how lovely it is and how magnificent the view is. They don’t show how well thought out and constructed it is. Everything is solid, new, well planned. The view can not be over-emphasized. Waking up in the morning, opening the balcony doors from the bedroom and looking out over the valley, sometimes over the low clouds, is a superb way to start the day. Breakfast inside, outside in the sun or under the awning is so relaxing. Looking out over the valley at night is spectacular. I was never able to take a picture that could do justice to that view. As others have noted, the house is very well equipped and everything worked perfectly. Stefano and Anna even added a portable CD player when I asked if we could bring CD’s with us. The house was more than adequate for the month we were there. The ride up the mountain is certainly interesting and rather enjoyable. You get used to the hikers, the bikers, the other cars, and find yourself looking forward to the drive through the hillsides of olive groves. Yes, the turn into and out of the driveway is unusual but you quickly figure out the best way to do it and it worked out fine. Spello is a lovely town, not nearly as large as many others in Umbria. We got to the point where we were recognized and welcomed at a couple of restaurants there (highly recommend Porto Venere and Il Pinturicchio). If you plan on cooking any dinners there, you’ll really want to shop at the macelleria - great traditional foods, very enjoyable people. Say hello to them for us (the “Washington” people). Without Stefano and Anna, staying there would have been a very nice experience. With them, it made it wonderfully memorable. Anything you need, they’re more than willing to help. The welcome foods have been discussed and were appreciated after a long drive there. They are just so nice, so pleasant, so helpful - I can’t overstate that. Because we stayed there for such a long time, we had the pleasure of for dinner after cooking lessons. Those evenings are among the most enjoyable we’ve spent in our 30-40 years of traveling. If you are considering a place to stay in that part of Umbria, you can't go wrong with Gran Panorama. You'll love it!
