                Charming Stopover

                5 of 5
Four of us (2 couples) stopped here for one night on our way from Vimy to Juno Beach. The location is great for breaking up long stretches of driving between typical tourist centres - so nice to get off the beaten path and experience the French countryside! The grounds... are beautiful and full of character. You really are in the country! The owner of the property lives in a house on the grounds, and the rental apartment is in its own building. We loved the animals (some geese, chickens, a rabbit and small dog) and seeing the stars at night. The accommodations... were very comfortable, though we were surprised that the second bedroom was only accessible through the first bedroom. Not a big deal if you're comfortable with your travel companions. Also, the photos here show the kitchen as part of the apartment (which it is) but there are 2 types of rentals offered: 1) a "gîte" (includes bedrooms and kitchen/living area - you bring and prepare your own food) and 2) "chambre d'hôte" (which is just the bedrooms and includes breakfast - you don't get access to the kitchen/living area). We had a small amount of confusion over this at first, but it was not a big deal and quickly overcome. Probably best to clarify upon booking. The host... is what really makes this place shine; booking with the owner was completely stress free and comfortable. She was very accommodating. Upon arrival she invited us to stroll around the property, and was just so welcoming and friendly. We felt right at home. She even helped us improvise with meal planning since we showed up under-prepared. Note to future visitors: grab some groceries before you get into town, there aren't many stores around here at all. All in all this stop was a highlight for us; the hospitality was excellent and if you're up for something a little different than the usual hotel experience, we highly recommend staying here.
