Escape From It All With a Stay in Your Captiva Island Vacation Home

Captiva Island is one of the most truly remote yet easy-to-reach vacation destinations in Florida, making it ideal for travelers who want to get away from it all and unwind in a tropical setting without the fuss of traveling far away. There are several truly stunning vacation homes that are larger and smaller in size located throughout the island, and many have incredible views of the Gulf Coast. If you are dreaming about the picture-perfect beach getaway in an unspoiled paradise, Captiva Island is the place to go.

Outdoor Recreation

The beach is the highlight of any trip to Captiva Island, and you can spend many fun-filled yet relaxing days soaking up the rays at Captiva Beach. There are a number of Florida vacation homes that are located just steps from the beach, making it easy for you to enjoy the best of sun and surf while on vacation. You can also set up boat tours for saltwater fishing, sightseeing, water skiing, sailing, kayaking, canoeing and more. Tennis is available at one of the local resorts as well, adding to the incredible range of ways that you can spend your time outdoors.

Shopping

Shopping on Captiva Island is somewhat limited because of the small size of the area. There are a handful of shops in the community that provide you with some groceries, gifts, souvenirs and other items close to your Captiva Island vacation home. For more exceptional shopping opportunities, you can make the short drive south to Sanibel Island, or you can explore numerous shopping centers in the Cape Coral and Fort Myers area.

Dining

Dining is a true treat on Captiva Island, and this is because there are several lovely restaurants on the island as well as just south on Sanibel Island that make use of local ingredients, including fresh seafood. Some of the top options to consider for your next trip to Captiva Island include Sunshine Seafood Cafe, Doc Ford's Rum Bar & Grille, Keylime Bistro, Captiva House, RC Otter's Island Eats, the Mucky Duck and others.

Weather

The weather on Captiva Island can be truly impressive throughout much of the year because of the community's location along the southwestern coast of Florida. The community has a subtropical climate that is found throughout most of the rest of the state, bringing warm and even hot temperatures to the area most months of the year. Even on the coolest days in the winter, the average high temperature is still in the 60s, and it rarely ever freezes on Captiva Island. The summers are long and wet, and the area is prone to tropical storms and hurricanes during hurricane season. Despite this potential for heavy rains in the summer, the summer months are the busiest time of the year to visit Captiva Island because of how warm and enjoyable the weather typically is.

How to Get There

While Captiva Island has a rather remote feel to it, it is relatively easy to reach. You can fly into Cape Coral or Fort Myers at the Southwest Florida International Airport. Then, take Interstate 75 to Highway to access Highway 867. Highway 867 takes you across the bay to reach Periwinkle Way. Periwinkle Way turns into Sanibel Captiva Road, which is the main road in Captiva Bay. If you choose to drive to the area via rental car, simply make your connections to Interstate 75 from your starting point.
