Very stylish homestead with organic gardens, a view and friendly owners

We loved our stay with Philip and Suzanna. They are gracious hosts and have built a lovely homestead on environmentally sound principles without any sacrifice on the gracious amenities of living. Their gardens of fruit trees, spices, flowers, and orchids are lovely as they work to nourish the soil with natural materials. Our dinner with Suzanna and Philip was one of the best in all of Ecuador as Suzanna made a Thai curry out of ingredients almost exclusively from their gardens. Their favorite taxi driver, Jose, gave us a lovely tour of the area and speaks English very well. They are also very musical and lead a local singing group, lovely to listen to. It is up in the foot hills, a $2.50 taxi ride out of town. Our downstairs apartment was very comfortable. The roosters, across the valley, will be roosters and for you city dwellers, that means crowing all night, but that beats horns and city traffic. The climate is very comfortable and the town very interesting although ExPats are omnipresent, both retirees and hippie types. The hiking and horseback riding are fantastic. Vilcabama is well worth a visit and we think this is THE place to stay for a restful vacation.
