How to Get There

San Francisco is the closest major metropolitan area, so it is easiest to reach Monterey when you travel via air, bus, train or your own car into this area. From San Francisco, you can rent a car if necessary and make your way south along Highway 101 into the Monterey area. This is a short, scenic drive, but you can also travel along the coastline on Highway 1 to reach the Monterey area if you want to enjoy views of the Pacific Ocean while you are en route to your vacation destination.
