High Sierra country in California is the perfect place to escape to when you want to get away from it all. Shopping in the High Sierra area is focused largely on the popular Mammoth Lakes area, although there are small retail shops and boutiques in most of the towns in the High Sierra region. In Mammoth Lakes, you will find the Mammoth Luxury Outlets, which is home to dozens of brand name stores that you know and love. There is also the Minaret Village Shopping Center, which has many additional stores for you to explore.
The elevation in the High Sierra region varies based on where you are at, but most of the area has a dry-summer humid continental climate. This type of climate is known for having warm, dry summers with long winters and ample snowfall. In fact, the area regularly receives more than 200 inches of snowfall per year, and some areas receive considerably more than this. Depending on the elevation, you can expect average highs ranging from the 30s to the 70s throughout the year. Average lows may range from the teens to the 40s depending on the season and the elevation.
The High Sierra region is removed from the hustle and bustle of urban areas, so it can be a bit more challenging to get to than other areas. One option is to fly into the San Francisco area and to rent a car. By car, you can travel from San Francisco eastward along Interstate 9, and you can then connect to Highway 120. This highway takes you the rest of the way into the High Sierra area, and you can explore it at your leisure. Buses also travel into the area, giving you another option to consider.
