A unique experience, combining a traditional winery, working artists studio and holiday villa.
Lovingly restored and converted into holiday accomodation and studio by local artist Jon Call, the 'canava' building dates back to 1835, situated in a semi rural location on the edge of the residential village of Emborio, with views to the 'castella' (old town) of emborio and beyond to the sea.
The accomodation comprises of lounge /home cinema, two bathrooms, kitchen / dining area, sleeping quarters for up to 6 people, private courtyard, roof terrace and off road parking
Jon your host, born in Maine, USA, resident of Greece for 35 years. Exhibits art at various locations around the island, specialises in abstract, collage and landscapes, with an extensive knowledge of the sights, history and hospitality of Santorini.
From the moment I opened the door to the restored old winery, I was in love and didn't want to leave! The attention to detail from the architectural use of space, color palette, pieces of greek building materials and pottery, and original art work make you feel right at home. The courtyard has a pool to cool off in a day of sightseeing, and there is a rooftop terrace that has both shady and sunny places to sit with a grill.
The owner, Jon, is a wonderful host who made our stay very enjoyable. He gave us tips on the best restaurants, places to see, beaches to visit, and anything else that struck our fancy. He even cooked for us one night - and he is a great cook.
I would highly recommend renting the Winery if you ever decide to visit Santorini.
Wonderful villa. It is a restored old winery owned by an american artist. His artistic talent is shown in all the beutiful details of the house. The house is big and spacious, the courtyard and the roofterrace had both shady and sunny places to sit.
The charm of the house is exquisite and we loved every moment we spent there.
And then there is John, the owner. I have never rented a house where the owner was so dedicated to make our stay as good as he could possibly make it. He gave us tips of the best restaurants, best places to go without being intrusive. He even cooked for us one night - and he is a great cook. When our son wanted to see the finals in the european championship in soccer, he booked a table for us in a pub with a tv with an english commentary. So thaughtful! I so recommend this house and hope to come back someday.
Beautiful place! Jon has great taste. We were there for 4 days and we enjoyed every day. Emporio is not a busy town and that gave us a lovely local experience. Jon was great showing us every option and things to do. We will come back to Santorini and definitely staying there again.
An exceptional property with an amazing host! When we arrived I was blown away by the superior attention to detail. As you walk thru the stone laid entry, you are lead to an an open courtyard, filled with the smell of flowers permitting thru the air. The courtyard presentation was purely exceptional with bits and pieces of greek building materials and a fresh spin of art laid through out the courtyard. Within this area is a separate room complete with A/C, 2nd bathroom, and a large soaking tub fit for a king. Never less, I was jaw dropped and couldn't believe how beautiful the place was until I stepped inside. Wow. I'm quiet sure we were speechless. Given the nature Jon's place compared to some of the 5 star hotels, Jon's place is on a completely different status level and puts the hotels in the area to shame.
Additionally, not only did we have an amazing place to stay at we also had an amazing host, Jon. Anything we needed, Jon was more than willing to help from picking up guests from the airport, arranging transportation, arranging quad rentals, to pointing out the best restaurants in town, to booking ferry tickets, and even making us a traditional greek diner (which by the way was phenomenal) among others. In fact, while we were in Greece, we ended up inviting Jon to our wedding as he's such an amazing person and a great joy to be around!
In summary, this is a truly amazing place with an exceptional hosts that will ensure you will have the best time in Santorini. I give my highest regards to Jon and his well kept and super clean winery home!
The rustic yet comfortable nature of the converted winery take you back in time. The fact that the sleeping quarters extend into the hillside makes for the best possible ‘air conditioning’ and wonderful sleeping conditions. The rooftop sitting area is wonderful with shaded and sunning areas, and catches a comfortable breeze. It is also the location of the barbeque grill and creates a wonderful atmosphere for dinning or just enjoying a refreshing Ouzo or a glass of wine from the neighbor’s private stock. Jon arranged a fantastic party one night and cooked countless souvlakis for everyone. Jon shows a special dedication to ensuring that your stay is as fantastic as possible, whether that means personal tours or staying out of sight.
The Perrisa beach, which is the longest beach, is just a short drive away with clear water, tavernas and lively beach bars. We had many fantastic meals at places that Jon recommended.
I look forward to coming back and would recommend this place to everyone.
On arrival at this winery we were struck by just how well the property had been converted with great attention to detail. The courtyard was a stunning place to eat outside in the evening and the views from the roof terrace day or night were simply wonderful. There is so much to see and do on Santorini and the winery is in the best position for this. Nothing is too far away, yet the privacy the winery affords its visitors means that you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of popular Thira and breathtaking Oia yet return to the winery to relax and unwind.
Jon was the perfect host and without his guidance I would have to say we would have never discovered the best places to eat. Nor would we have seen some of the more dramatic beach landscapes. Nothing was too much trouble. He is a great bloke who simply wishes to share the riches that are on the beautiful island of Santorini.
We hope to return next year.
