Sumner listings are gone, but autumn iis full of possibilities in Salida. September and October are, arguably, the best times of year here. You can still hike, road bike, mountain bike in and around Salida. Or, just RELAX and enjoy the 270 degree views from the new addition to what was already the finest deck in the valley, or lounge on the patio, where the views are just as good. If you can bring yourself to come inside, watch the huge HD-TV! No hidden costs make this place a great value for a week-long vacation or a weekend get-away. You can go mountain biking or hiking on all the new trails on S mountain. The new North Backbone Trailhead is just 1.2 miles from the house. Over 3 miles of sweet singletrack, perfect for both biking and hiking, that connects with the rest of the ARKANSAS HILLS TRAIL SYSTEM (Backbone, South Backbone, Front Side, and others). On the other side of the valley (only minutes away), the Little Rainbow Trail now links with the Double Rainbow Trail. They are also available to bikers and hikers for four-season fun. See link below for more information (thanks to Salida Mountain Trails and Absolute Bikes). Exploring our attractive town is always fun. We, the owners (college professors), stay at our lovely Salida vacation home at least two months per year. That's how we know it is ready for your comfort, recreation and relaxation. The view from the 600 square foot deck is second to none and includes broad expanses of the Sangre de Cristo and Sawatch Mountain Ranges and the Continental Divide. Chaffee County has more 14,000 foot mountains than any county in the country. The ones visible from the deck include Mount Shavano (14,229’) and Mount Antero (14,269’). Many other snow-capped peaks are visible including Mount Ouray (13,973’).
The patio, just outside one bedroom, is a smaller, more intimate outdoor space. An ancient pinon pine provides shade and privacy. A lovely rock garden is a serene foreground to the spectacular backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range and Mount Ouray. This is also the view, through two floor to ceiling windows and a glass door, from the bed in this bedroom.
The main living area has an open floor plan and is furnished with a combination of new, very comfortable seating and antique heirlooms. The living room has four floor to ceiling windows, so one can enjoy the spectacular views in complete comfort. The two main bedrooms are separated by the living area and hallway.
Each has its own full bathroom, providing quiet and privacy for two couples or a family, not to mention HUGE VIEWS through floor-to-cieling windows. The third bedroom doubles as the 'electronics room.' The WiFi router is there, as is a fifty inch flat screen HD-TV with more then 50 channels via satellite and a DVD/VCR combo. This room also has a new fold-out couch for viewing or sleeping. Needless to say, the view is magnificent through the large window.
The full kitchen has all amenities and opens on to the main living area. Immediately adjacent is the dining area, which easily seats six adults.
We are college professors at Mizzou (Biological Engineering, Special Education). The flexibility in our schedules and wireless access allow us to spend time in our Salida vacation home (VRBO 99827). That's why we know they are ready for your relaxation and enjoyment.
The Owner purchased this house in 2005
No place else has Salida's combination of hiking, mountain biking, skiing and river running. The town is charming. The downtown area has many galleries and boutiques in historic buildings, but it is removed from routes 50 and 285. This gives it a quiet, off-the-beaten path feel. It's a privelege just existing in such a beautiful setting.
The best views in the valley from the patio, deck and through floor to ceiling windows throughout the house.
The deck was wonderful. We had a great time and are lucky to be able to stay in such a wonderful place.
Sunny bright home with beautiful views and and a terrific deck. Bedrooms and bathrooms are a good size. Third small bedroom is used for a TV room which was perfect for our baby. Comfy beds, fluffy towels. House could use some updating...looks like owners are slowly making improvements. Good separation of bedrooms and bathrooms. Kitchen is small but workable. We like this area when we stay in Salida. Good value and Bill is easy to work with. Yes, I would recommend this property.
We stayed at the house for 3 nights over President's Day this year. It had been cold on the Front Range so it was sooo nice to get to Salida where it was in the upper-60s every day! The house is as advertised - very spacious, at the top of a neat little subdivision above Salida, the deck is phenomenal (we spent most of our time there), and the views are superb - all the way from Mt. Princeton up north to the Sangres to the southeast!
The house itself has pretty much everything you could want or need. There were a few things that weren't working quite right - the tv service was wonky, and one of the oven burners was staying on all night (yikes!). We just turned off the breaker to the stove when we weren't using it and Bill was right on it when we called and told them. (I think they got it fixed right after we left the next day). But other than that everything was working fine.
The rest of the house is really well laid-out for the views and surrounding area. The master bedroom has huge windows and so does the main room. To be honest it's not the newest house and could probably stand for a complete overhaul in the next couple of years (disclaimer - I'm a bit of a remodel fanatic so I'm always looking at peoples' places for possibilities!). If you're looking for something with updated kitchen / bathrooms etc. this probably isn't for you. But it's quirky in all the right ways, and for the price its absolutely incredible!!!
We really appreciated the fact that all taxes / cleaning fees are included in the price too. What you see is what you pay! There's a trailhead to the S Mountain trail system right down the street, and town is walkable (but would probably take 30 min or so). Salida is one preimium funky town too! Again not a high-end joint, but lots of artsy, funky people and bars, stinky river rats and bikers. Bring your good time attitude and leave the button-downs at home!
In short the home is fantastic. If this is your price range then you won't find a better deal in the state!
The awe-inspiring views, yes they are!!! Great view overlooking Salida. When we arrived the weather was nice, low 60s and there wasn't any snow on the ground. That evening the weather changed and started snowing. the next morning, because of the snow cover, it seemed as if we had yet another great view! I cant say enough about the views, hands down the best feature of this property. The place was very clean and organized when we arrived. Everything we could possibly need at home, they had here. Plenty of room for my wife, 2 daughters and me. Very simple booking process and Bill was really great to work with as he communicated and had quick response time. We would definitely recommend this to our friends and family!
Tucked into the side of a hill overlooking the valley, the house is in a quiet and lovely spot. I can imagine renting for a week and using it as a writing or painting retreat. The house was spotless, and kitchen in great shape. I know there are some updates in the future, and that will pep up the interior a bit. But because the deck and views are truly incredible, I really let that go.
I wouldn't recommend this space for disabled renters, too many level changes. Unless the owner is addressing that in the future. Families, kids, couples really perfect. Friendly neighborhood dogs marched by every evening and morning for their stroll...all lovely! Thank you.
This place was the ultimate getaway. Incredible views and location with all the comforts of home. As soon as we walked through the door, we were in love. We love this area of Colorado and we will definitely be repeat renters at this house. Can't say enough good things.
This place has amazing views and great amenities. It felt like being at home but "away from home". it's a great vacation place, the town is so peaceful but there are so many different things to do. We had a great time and look forward to returning. The renters were incredibly nice and helpful. They provided us with useful information to help our trip go smoothly. I definitely recommend this for your vacation get away!
The North Backbone Trailhead is 1.2 miles from the house, providing easy access to the best hiking and mountain biking in the Salida vicinity. Run the river in a raft or kayak (inflatable kayaks or 'duckies' are easy, fun, exciting, and available for rent), The hiking and mountain biking are world famous, Monarch Ski & Snowboard area is less that 30 minutes on beautiful roads without traffic, a far cry from the weekend road rally to Summit County on on I-70, Monarch has the best snow in Colorado (Wolf Creek may dispute this claim, but no other resort comes close) and recently opened 'extreme terrain' called Mirkwood Basin, Other activities include, Road Biking, Aspen Viewing, and Riding ATVs, Dirt Bikes and Snowmobiles
