Riverview Cottage is one of Mystic's finest waterfront locations. The house, boathouse, and barn are perched directly on the Mystic River. It includes 1.25 acres of quiet land with mature trees and is completely air conditioned. It is an ideal location for families who want a quiet refuge of kayaking and canoeing in close proximity to Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic Aquarium, historic downtown Mystic, and the neighboring beaches of Rhode Island and the Mystic area. Riverview Cottage has a long, waterfront porch furnished with comfortable wicker and rockers as well as an even larger balcony above and a terrace adjoining the lower porch. The house is situated on a large tidal cove populated by osprey, herons, egrets, swans and ducks. A fragrant border of honeysuckle runs along the waterfront sometimes attracting hummingbirds when in bloom. It includes a full kitichen, well-stocked library and a comfortable studio-apartment over the detached garage. The property includes a large boathouse the owners use for storage.

We stayed during weekend of our wedding and had our reherseal dinner at the house on the deck. The house and views are gorgeous. We had plenty of room for everyone! The house had everything we could need. Hoping to stay again in the future!

relax on the back deck, drink wine, watch the birds, and talk---the perfect way to end the day

  • 5 of 5

Well maintained house, well furnished, in a great location. The house has a 3rd floor master suite and a mini-apartment above the garage -- both with en-suite bathrooms, perfect for couples with one or two young children who are part of the visiting family. Kitchen well equipped with utensils, though the trash cabinet door needs some attention. Refrigerator is spacious -- two-door refrigerator with lower pull-out drawer freezer. Second floor of house has one bedroom with en suite bathroom and three spacious bedrooms which have to share the single bathroom on that floor. However, we were all related families and we had no problem sharing the common bathroom. There is also a half-bath on the first floor next to the kitchen. The river in front of the house is salt water or brackish and is quite calm. Fun for canoeing and kayaking as well as swimming and catching small porgy fish with grandkids. And the back deck is a delightful place in the evening to drink wine, eat finger food, and watch the birds and just talk. Only suggestion would be to add more deck chairs since, with 6 bedrooms, we had 12 adults plus --on one evening --two guests for "cocktail hour" but not enough chairs for all. Also the morning sun is strong on the deck and a roll-down bamboo shade would create some shade so guests could comfortably drink coffee there in the mornings. The drive into downtown Mystic is fairly short and the town has a number of restaurants ranging from pub food and snacks to more formal dining. Truly a delightful place in which to spend some time.

Family reunion

  • 5 of 5

At first sight it seemed like a very nice house. Bedrooms were spacious and appliances were adequate, although the dish washer didn't seem to do a good job, which was probably because of the very hard water. The third floor master suite was very nice and comfortable. Probably the biggest problem was that the second floor shower had very low water pressue and was hard to regulate. The same bathroom's toilet clogged several times and needed constant plunging. The garage apartment worked out great for some unexpected guests. The view and surroundings were really beautiful and peaceful, with the front porch being a great meeting place for morning coffee and cocktails after our six grandchildren went to bed. The kids loved canoeing and catching crabs and fish in the Mystic River. Overall it was a great stay and I would highly recommend it if you're looking for a place in the Mystic area.

Great property, close to everything yet very quiet

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathering was terrific with plenty of room outdoors for activities. Lots of river habitat to observe up close from the shore and when kayaking. Our out of town guests were impressed with the Mystic experience.
