The Redstar can sleep 15 people it has a pool table, card table upstairs with board games.hot tub, grill. Great hiking trails right next door with an overlook on the property of the famous New River Gorge Bridge. Sleeping arrangements are ---- queen bed in master---- the two bedroom upstairs will sleep 5 people ---each bedroom has a full size bunk with twin over top and a set of twin bunks... bedroom downstairs has a full size bed ... and two queen sleeper sofas
This was a nice house but need improvements. We specifically rented this house for the pool table. It was in bad condition and the sticks were missing the tips. We had to go buy them at the store in order to play. It is really only a 3 bedroom and has a room they put a bed in and called 4 bedrooms. It sleeps so many people but the bathroom situation is not up for the task! It has 2 showers only. They were moldy and a little sketchy. The water pressure was a little trickle that barely washed the soap off. The kitchen did not have much but did have the 'necessities.' We used the grill and tried to clean it the best we could because it was disgusting. Our chicken went up in flames, we shut off the burners and couldn't get the fire out because it was burning all the grease that has built up. The WiFi didn't work. But the house could be a nice rental. It just needs work and new cleaning staff.
It has been quite a while since I stayed here, but I happen to be planning to book it again for another trip to the Gorge. When I came to book it via this site, I noticed the one review that wasn't so great from a couple years ago and felt that I HAD to talk about my experience here last fall!
I came to West Virginia with a dozen adventure-loving rafter for a weekend at the Gorge. From the moment we entered the cabin we were AMAZED! It was going to be perfect for our group. We spent a ton of time playing cards around the dining table that fit all of us at once. And the hot tub was very much enjoyed by our crowd after a day of very chilly rafting.
We found the kitchen well-stocked and everything was in working order. The house was very clean and had plenty of bathrooms for the whole group. The master bedroom is the BOMB (and I got to sleep in it)! There is one more small bedroom on the first floor that doesn't offer a ton of privacy from the 1st floor goings-on but perfectly acceptable. The two bedrooms on the second floor are packed to the gills with bunk beds. You have to have a group of people willing to be close up there- but you don't spend any time in the bedrooms anyway.
Location was perfect- We used Adventures on the Gorge which was just a short drive away. It is also close to an amazing pizza joint, Pies and Pints, and other local amenities.
I can't recommend this property more highly. Like I said- my group is planning to book this same property again this year!
The grounds of the Nature Preserve were beautiful and well maintained. There was a walking trail behind the house that ended at small waterfall that was a wonderful two mile hike round trip. There is a beautiful overlook of the bridge. The location was great for hiking the trails, seeing the bridge and there were many placed to zip line and raft. There are local shops, wineries and the village is small but quiaint!
The house however was a different story. The interior of the house was maked and the walls were dirty. There were cob webs in all of the bedroom and mold inside the dryer. The fireplace did not work, the porch was not screened in as described. The toliets in the bathrooms were wobbly. The gas grill was dirty from the previous tenants. There was a hole in the ceiling of the "Confrence Room" that was patched with board that did not seal the breech and nailed to the ceiling. The room smelled moldy and the pool table that was in the room was usable, but in disrepair. The hot tub was usable but the setting buttons needed reapair.
The bedrooms were spacious, but no furniture. There were no dressers in any of the bedrooms or hangers on arrival. The master bedroom the second bedroom had side tables, but the bedroom with the bunks had no tables.
The kitchen table could not accomodate the more than 10 people. There were two folding tables that could be used, one was moldy under the deck and the other was warped. Initially there were no kitchen linnen, the two frying pans were unusable and there were no serving pieces (bowls, platters) and no cooking pans excpet a dirtty cookie sheet. If I had not brougth my crockpot, were would not have been able to cook dinner our first nigth in the camp. On day two of our week there were big black ants in the house for the rest of the week. The firepit needed to be shoveled out but there was nothing to do this with. There were only 4 plastic chairs for the deck and one was broken.
I contacted the manager Delores and she responded quickly to our call and was very pleseant on the phone. She went to walmart and purchased linnens, hangers and pans and baking pieces. She stated that she would get some dresser and have someone fix the fireplace and shower. The shower was fixed the fireplace was not. No dressers were delivered. She made it clear that there would not have some of the money we paid for the rental refunded. Would not recommend this house in the current conditon.
