About Melanie Stewart
Walter was an authentic third generation fisherman who was born and raised in the area locally. He loved his heritage and the water. He grew up fishing with his dad beginning at the ripe old age of four. Walter had personal and historical stories of the time and area that he would weave and share with you as he prepped for another day doing what he has done all his life; making a living from the sea! Sadly, Walter passed in August, 2017 after a brief illness. His legacy lives on with his middle son using and operating his fishing wharf across the street from Walter's home. His eldest and youngest son are continuing to share the house with all those who wish to experience the beauty of Downeast Maine.
Melanie Stewart purchased this House in 2014
Why Melanie Stewart chose Steuben
Walter came by this property as it was handed down from his grandfather to his dad and from his dad to him. With a strong and steely wharf and decades of fishing/lobster gear and boats, Walter is keeping the tradition going for generations to come. His son Brian is now the owner/operator of the wharf. You will see his boat, the "Sunshine Chalet" coming and going throughout the days.
What makes this House unique
With the smell of the sea, unimaginable views, and generations of livelihood running through his veins, Walter could not imagine any other place on earth he would rather be. "Paradise exists, and I've found it right here in my quiet little village."

Great Home for Relaxing
We arrived as the sun was setting. It was absolutely beautiful to watch as we sat on the outside deck. Inside, this great home has everything you need. Unfortunately, our trip was cut very short due to a family emergency. Melanie was so kind and understanding as to why we were leaving. We plan to be back to this part of Maine and will definitely rent here again.
Strout's Wharf Stay
Perfect spot for a group of friends or family travelling along coastal Maine or exploring the Bar Harbour area. The house is spacious, well equipped and very clean, the view, spectacular and the beds comfortable. One small suggestion would be the addition of curtains or blinds in the upstairs bedroom windows to block out the very bright streetlight.
First time to Maine and location was peaceful and beautiful. Enjoyed the lovely house and freshest seafood ever. Will be back
Excellent house in a very relaxing location
Beautiful home and location
It was a beautiful home that met all our vacation needs. We particularly enjoyed our coffee on the the porch each morning overlooking the bay and looking for the light house as it peeped thru the morning fog..
I can’t say enough about this wonderful place! Melanie was a super host! From the perfect view to the well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and quiet front porch! Everything we needed for a fabulous stay! We stayed five nights and it felt like home! Hope to visit again!
