Buoy 23: Direct waterfront cottage with deepwater dock on the Annisquam River

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Waterfront with dock this gem has four bedrooms and 1.5 baths, a deepwater dock (for up to a 30' boat) and a wrap around screened porch. Swim from dock, shore or sand bar.

Addition of new windows, insulation, Heat & Central Air Conditioning now extends our season March 1 – December 31.This newly renovated and updated waterfront gem has four bedrooms and 1.5 baths, a deep-water dock (accommodates up to a 30 foot boat, with our new extended dockage in 2014) and a wrap-around screened porch where one can sit and watch the glimmering water, wildlife and passing boats go by on the tidal Annisquam River. At high tide swim from the dock or the shore directly in front of the house and at low tide there is great swimming from the sand bar. The sunny, modern eat-in kitchen has gas cooking, dishwasher, full size washer/drier and a half bath. The dining room seats 8 and is open onto the living area which has a huge new sectional and 50 inch flat screen TV complete with a high-end Bose theater sound system, deluxe cable service and DVD player. The screen porch is pure heaven for sitting during the day, or for those who wish, sleeping on those warm summer nights. Upstairs are 4 bedrooms (two with views of the water) with new linens, decor and cable television, plus a completely renovated custom-tiled full bathroom with tub and shower. Outside there are lovely newly landscaped front and back yards and plenty of parking as well as an outdoor hot and cold water shower. This is the waterfront vacation you have been dreaming of!

About Captain Scott Kingsley

Captain Scott A. Kingsley, B.S., J.D., Northeastern University, Massachusetts School of Law. Lifelong resident of Buoy 23, family property since 1929. Constable at Commonwealth of Massachusetts since 1974. U.S.C.G Licensed Master of Steam and Motor Driven Vessels.

Captain Scott Kingsley purchased this cottage in 1929

Why Captain Scott Kingsley chose Merrimack Valley & Essex County

Back during the Great Depression, more than 85 years ago, with much of the Gloucester waterfront available to him, Grandfather Angelo Russo, of Russo's Candy House fame, chose Buoy 23 as the base for his boating and tuna fishing hobbies. He spent the remaining 21 years of his life developing the property to his exacting specifications. Since that time, his family has made every effort to preserve the original style and charm of this wonderful property. In the past five years that we have been offering the property to the public, all income has been re-invested in property improvements. Our goal is to be the caretakers for a select group of long-term clients that appreciate and understand the vacation home rental concept. We look forward to see you as a cherished stakeholder in our venture. As more and more properties go private and become overdeveloped, we are proud to share this rare wonderful vacation experience with you. While effort has been made to provide modern kitchen, bath, comfort and climate control amenities, the remainder of the property has been meticulously maintained with it's original charm, and we encourage our guests to recommend further improvements.

What makes this cottage unique

Deep water dockage, a rare benefit in Annisquam area. Perched on the northern end of Riverview Cove, water view range exceeds 250 degrees.

Wonderful week on the Annisquam river.

Great house with big screened in wraparound porch. Wonderful views up and down the river. Slice of heaven watching gulls, egrets, cormorants, rabbits and chipmunks. Great swimming off dock to sandbar. House had everything you need. Don't miss bar scene at marina called Mile Marker 1. Great Caribbean vibe! Excellent food and cocktails.

Downright Divine

  • 5 of 5

We were coming from all parts for a small family reunion. Being here at Buoy 23 set the stage for a memorable and truly special stay. I cannot think of even one suggestion for improvement... it was downright divine. Our host was incredibly thoughtful and gracious. He was quick to respond to text communication. I would happily come here again and again.

Even better than the photos!

  • 5 of 5

Spent a long Memorial Day weekend at this wonderful cottage with an incredible view. Loved having both a screened and windowed porch for sitting with a nice view of the water no matter what the temperature outside. The bedrooms and the one full bath are a bit small but not a major problem. House had all the amenities we needed and we would certainly stay here again if back in the area.

We were quite lucky to be blessed with amazing weather; it was really warm. The house is stocked with everything you could need. We were in town for a wedding and several family members booked homes for their stay; all were lovely, but ours truly had the best view. The owner was super accommodating and informative. My 15 year old son and my 10 year old nephew jumped in and swam to a nearby sand bar during low tide...the water was really cold, but boys will be boys! The beds were all very comfortable. Not a lot of hot water; so if there is a good sized group time your showers out. We would definitely visit again!

Beautiful and cozy

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful property. Lots of cozy places inside and outside to relax, read, play games, etc. Glassed-in and screened-in porches looking over the Little River are the "stars" of the house, especially at sunset. Kitchen has everything (and I mean everything) you need to cook just anything including any kind of seafood or fish from one of the local markets. House and property are immaculate. You can tell this is a well loved, well cared for place and the owner is friendly, accommodating and just a really nice person.

We love this waterfront property

  • 5 of 5

This is our third visit to this property. When we stay there we never leave the property except to shop for food. It is immaculately clean, spacious, with all the modern amenities. You have a private beach and a beautiful screened in porch from which to watch the boats go by on the Annisquam River. We are renting again next year!
