2 Beautiful bedrooms, fantastic deck with BBQ, full kitchen and all cooking equipment, new TV's, and amazing yard for fun!

Spectacular nature property one minute from the best beach in Santa Barbara, Hendry's Beach, and 5 minutes to Downtown State Street/Shopping/Historical District. Huge Park Like Back Yard, Swings, Tetherball, Zipline, and luxurious inside, in a rural upscale neighborhood. Great Value!

Children and pet friendly!! The yard is as big as a park! The lawn alone is as big as a football field. The place is stocked with all sports equipment for fun on the amazing lawn as big as soccer field! Footballs, soccer balls, wiffle ball, Zarts, Bocce Ball, Croquette, horse shoes, you name it, the equipment is there! Plan you family competition!

The property sits on a secluded oak tree setting, with hillside views, enormous yard that feels like a park. The property has a special garden to protect the endangered Monarch Butterflies with milkweeds galore among Eucalyptis and Sycamore trees. Almost every day of the year you will see Monarch butterflies, hummingbirds and many species all over the property.

You walk down your private entry into an oak grove one flight of stairs from street level to enter. Your large deck overlooks an oak grove to the left and the expansive lawn and gardens to the right.

There is a zipline for kids (200 lb limit), tree swings, ropes to climb, hammock, tetherball, and a Tarzan rope hanging amongst the oak trees for swinging.

There is a historic rose garden with 33 specimen roses of varieties no longer being bred, saved from a horticultural society closing down. Cut away and bring these colorful and scented beauties inside for your stay! There are beautiful walkways, staircases cascading into the gardens for you to meander around and enjoy the serene natural beauty. Fruit trees galore! Navel orange, tangerine, lemon, avocado, apricot, plum, loquat, kumquat and more. Pick away organic tree ripened fruit if your stay happens to fall during their showcase of nature's bounty!

The property is children and pet friendly. KIDS will have lots to do, lots of toys and games inside and yard toys, games outside, and your puppies will enjoy frisbee or fetch running on the huge lawn.

There are 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, King & Queen beds, with 2 futons and a rollaway stored in the closet for 6 sleeping total. The linens are plentiful, and the beds extra comfortable for a good night's sleep. The bedrooms are on opposite ends, with the living room in between the bedrooms. Relaxing is easy with all the serenity around you and in the unit itself.

All new HDTVs, cable TV on HD, NEW UPGRADED WIFI - highest speed, strongest signal, game box, books, and assorted toys.

This unit is below another unit on VRBO (478773). The property is built in a way that each are completely private with separate entry ways, and built into a hill, so they are insulated for sound. The yard is shared, but is as big as a park with separate accesses to the lawn and gardens. The owner or a caretaker is available to help if needed. The owner often stays on the property if not traveling in other unit.

This property is behind the fog line, and is 1/2 mile from the water/beach so this property is SUNNY, even when beach, 1/2 mile a way is foggy, yet there is lovely shade from the grove of oak trees on one side of the property for when days are warm in Santa Barbara.

It is a 2 minute drive to a scenic surfing beach, Hendry's Beach, that has on one end - a dog beach, and one of California's most scenic oceanfront restaurants 'The Boathouse'. The heart of Santa Barbara is very close to this property, It is 5 minutes to downtown Santa Barbara by car, the harbor, pier, etc. Montecito is 8 minutes South, the SB Airport is 8 minutes North.

For stays of one week or more, there is a cleaning helper that will come one time during your stay to clean and do wash and fold personal laundry, all included in your price of the stay. It really makes your stay a vacation...! Extra maid service is available at very reasonable rate, ask for more details.

DOG RUN: If you want to use it: Newly installed chain link secured dog run so you can let your doggie (s) rest comfortably while you sight see in an area secured from top to bottom. Shaded area, big enough for multiple dogs.

This is a very special unique property. There are very few lots as large as this one in Santa Barbara, so natural, so vast in landscape.

Deposits are promptly refunded upon departure to the credit card you used to book the property with no damage to unit.

Maximum occupancy for unit --- 6 people.

No events. No weddings or extra guests for parties. This is not available to be rented as an event house. Strictly enforced, so please do not plan any events with extra guests invited. This is not a student party house.

About Rebecca Brand

Rebecca Brand purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Rebecca Brand chose Santa Barbara

This property is very unique because of it's large yard, views, serenity. Rare in Santa Barbara, very rural setting, but 2 minutes to the beach. No neighbors can see into your unit.

What makes this cottage unique

Bird watching, wildlife, peaceful setting, seclusion, nature setting. Kids will love the huge yard to run around and play in. There are all kinds of rope swings, a hammock, and a Tarzan rope set amongst the oak trees. The backyard is big enough to play soccer, frisbee, and more. The lawn is huge. Watch the kids play while you lounge on the deck sipping wine. Run your doggie. The property is partially unfenced in the backyard, so you can just walk through the back yard to take long walks and hikes on the adjacent hillsides for spectacular views. For dog owners, the yard is 70% fenced...but since the flat area of the yard, the huge lawn is at the bottom of the property, for your dog to run away during a walk it is very inconvenient for your puppy to find his way to the road way above, or anywhere else, there are natural boundaries of brush.

The property house sits on a hillside over looking the yard and hills. It is 1/2 a flight of stairs to lawn level, so the overview of the yard and your group from your deck is lovely.

Close to go to downtown Santa Barbara (5 mins), Montecito (8 mins), harbor (7 mins), closest beach is 2 mins. 8 mins to SB airport and UCSB, It is very easy to get to all the scenic tourist spots, within minutes.

Nice backyard, small place

  • 3 of 5

The location is great, as well as the backyard. Our kids had a blast outside. The house itself is old and small. More like a basement. Old bath, peeling paint here and there, messy and dirty pantry. Old carpet too.

Our sheets weren't fresh either. We found hair on the sheets On both beds. Luckily, there were extra sheets to change the soiled ones.

Very barely fits 6 people. More like 4.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry this guest was unhappy, that is rare. The pictures are accurate on the listing, and like described a Cabin feel. I supervise the maids, and they ALWAYS clean everything, and of course all the sheets, every time, they are ALWAYS washed in hot water and bleach, on site, and I supervise this. So, this is an odd remark. I did not hear from this guest about any issues, so I'm surprised at this review.

Great location. Comfortable, kids and pet friendly house and fabulous yard

  • 5 of 5

This house was ideally located for us. A quick drive to the beach or downtown to state Street shopping and restaurants. The house is comfortable and well equipped. We slept with windows and doors open because it was a warm weekend and we were very comfortable.

The yard was great for reading in the hammock, rope swinging, tetherball, and zip lining. You do need to be aware that you are typically sharing the yard with the renters staying upstairs. This worked out fine for us.

We did have a couple of skunks and a few black widows greet us at night when we would come home late but you just need to have some light and be aware. The webs would go up quick at night on the stairway.

We would definitely stay here again. Rebecca was very accommodating and responsive to every need.

Owner's Response: The property backs up to 27 acres of undisturbed land, a habitat to wildlife. I routinely do pest control, but those spiders can crop up. Black widows are very uncommon, there can be a stray DaddyLongLegs, that's usually the ones that I see, but in any case, not welcomed! I've gone on a mission to hunt spiders down and minimize the places they may hide. Skunks come around at night once in awhile and are certainly unpleasant. I don't leave anything out for them, but they like a midnight walk through the gardens now and then.

unprofessional owner

  • 1 of 5

We were thrilled with this place upon arrival. The backyard is enormous and contains many attractions for kids young and old (especially the zip line and Tarzan swing). The lower level of the house itself is worn but comfortable and spacious. And the proximity to wonderful Hendry’s Beach is great. However, the evening of our arrival we detected a bad smell in the house and by the morning the bathroom was unusable due to the stench. Due to the stench, we could not use the rental until the following evening, when the problem was fixed. The owner accused us of causing a sewage back-up, and retained our security deposit. We did not cause the back-up and should have been refunded one day of the rental. I do not recommend this rental due to the unprofessionalism of the owner.

Owner's Response: The property was terrific when this guest arrived. They enjoyed a night there. I was called early the next morning by the guest for a plumbing back up. I arrived in 30 minutes and hired a plumber willing to come fast and I stayed with the plumber on the property until the problem was fixed. I was shown the problem by the plumber, feminine products flushed recently. (there were women and teenage young ladies staying) The deposit did not cover the expense of the burned out pump and the plumber's time. The problem they caused was fixed in a few hours during the day. Incidentally, this guest crashed into a car that was parked on the street as they left to sightsee. I saw this happen since I was waiting for the plumber to finish, and had to run out and get them to stop, as they almost did a hit and run. The damage to the vehicle they hit was over $1,200. I was able to stop them and get their insurance information. There was no question that they caused the plumbing back up, as they mention in this review the property was great upon arrival, no smell. Once they caused the back up, the next morning, there became a smell. I had inspected the property with my housekeeper prior to their arrival. It was fine, the plumbing was great. If there had been a smell, for these guests upon arrival, I assume they would have not checked in, they would have notified me of a problem. They checked in, enjoyed the property, then caused a backup that I fixed within hours of their report of a problem. Please disregard this negative review by them. Read on to the other reviews.

"Best Spring Break Ever"

  • 5 of 5

My 10 year old daughter said this was the best family vacation we have ever had. We spent our spring break here visiting friends and playing at the beach and it was great. Our three kids fell in love with the backyard, as did our dog. The house feels like a cabin and was very comfortable and worked well for our family of 5. The location is convenient to a beautiful, dog-friendly beach and also to stores and restaurants. We usually stay closer to East Beach but found this to be a more central location.

Rebecca was very hospitable, leaving us wine and coffee, lending us beach toys, and responding to questions quickly.

We will definitely be back!

Amazing Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

I had come to Santa Barbara for a family trip with another couple and kids. Location was important to me, and found this house very close to an amazing beach. Downtown was only 5 minutes and the Historic Mission even closer. Upon arrival there was wine, and a beautiful woodsy cabin for us. The kids immediately ran down to the back yard which is huge, and played on the swings, hammock and played tether ball. They loved their stay here! It was like having a private park!! The host was welcoming and accommodating, I had asked about a few kitchen items, and she was very accessible and wonderful. The kitchen had all kinds of spices, foil, napkins, and fully stocked with appliances and gadgets. There were all kinds of extra towels and linens (we had the kids sleep on cots, which were great!!) The huge TV in the living room (they connected a game box to it) kept them happy late at night so my husband and I could rest. The two bedrooms are separated by the living room so the other family we traveled with had their privacy as well (we put the kids in the middle in the living room on the cots). The deck was huge as well which was great for a family BBQ, stocked with propane. We enjoyed hanging out on the outside deck with a glass of wine while the kids were right below on the lawn playing, it was magical. I've never seen my kids so much in their element, we felt like the Swiss Family Robinson! Everyone in the family was happy, especially the kids, but us grown ups appreciated the beauty of all the shady oak trees, and the garden walks, there must be 30 variety of trees at this place. We missed the rose garden being in bloom, but, there is always next time! I would highly recommend this property, the pictures do not adequately describe what you get, and the price is less than what you'd expect for this category especially considering the amazing yard -- which we didn't really understand until we arrived, what a bonus.
