About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Relax in the perfect vacation rental--our family's historic farmhouse, peacefully set on 11 acres in the beautiful Gallatin Valley. Close to Bozeman, home of Montana State University and Museum of the Rockies, OUR FARM HOUSE vacation home rests in a magnificent rural setting with room to roam. This completely furnished country home boasts many amenities as well as rural charm.

Open from APRIL 1 - OCTOBER 30 each year, the cozy home offers an atmosphere of an elegant turn-of-the-century country farm setting. The lovely surrounding grounds include a productive country vegetable garden, an abundance of trees and shrubs including towering spruce trees, and free-range chickens). A fully furnished kitchen will fulfill your every dining need when you elect to 'eat in', and everything for your first breakfast on-site is supplied.

The residence boasts three lovely bedrooms reminiscent of the elegance of days gone by. A library/reading room separates the two second-floor bedrooms. Breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains are visable from every window, both upstairs and down. Family heirlooms grace each room.

The one large, country bathroom is authentically furnished with the original bathtub, retrofitted, of course, with a shower for those who do not prefer to soak in the large bathtub. The house is open and light, and delightful surprises catch the eye in every room.

You will be the only guests during your stay at Our Farm House; the entire home will be yours.

During your stay, visit our great-grandparents' homesteader's log cabin (located just across the garden on site) to experience an authentic taste of Montana during the late 1800's.

Boasting a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, OUR FARM HOUSE is centrally located in Yellowstone Country for blue ribbon trout fishing, kayaking and float trips in the Gallatin, Madison and Yellowstone Rivers. Easy access to Big Sky, Moonlight Basin and Bridger Ski Resorts. A gorgeous one and a half hour drive through the picturesque Gallatin Canyon to Yellowstone Park or through Paradise Valley to the Park's north entrance. And it's just minutes to the mountains! Public golf courses within short driving distances.

Random thoughts......I couldn't have picked a more wonderful place to stay. Mardeen is the best hostess in the world. Any time we'd see her she chatted with my grandson and he loved it. She talked to us about growing up on the farm and my grandson was loving all of it. I did too. I felt like he was "stalking" her. Always looking out the window when we were in the house to see if she was coming down the hill. I can't say enough great things about our stay. The beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept on...better than home. My grandson loved the chickens and the sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. We didn't turn the TV on at all. The peonies and lilacs were unbelievable. Wish we could have stayed longer. We ate dinner most nights in Bozeman. Great choice of restaurants. There is a touching photo album dedicated to her mother. Look at it if you have time. Lot of family photos around. I forgot to ask but there was a photo of a gentleman that reminded me of the actor, Randolph Scott. Her grandparents homestead cabin made for good photos. Actually, everything did. The house she grew up in, the house she and Phil live in and the house we stayed in. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd have to give it a 10+. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you Mardeen and Phil.

Owner's Response: Dear Pat, this is Alice, Mardeen's sister. Every day you were there she would call me and tell me about you wonderful folks and what an amazing grandmother you are! She immediately fell in love with you grandson and treasured the time she was able to spend with you and with him. She still talks about you two -- it was a wonderful, wonderful time for her. Thank you for your very kind words about our historic family home. You made my sister very, very happy. Alice Hanks

Our Farmhouse: Escape to Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this lovely property for five nights and deem it to be the best VRBO we've ever experienced. We stepped out of the car and were greeted by four new friends, chickens of all different colors and personalities! Located on 11 peaceful acres of well-maintained grounds, we experienced beautiful sunsets and many delightful places to explore, including the historical cabin, lush lilac bushes and colorful poppies. Located just minutes from Bozeman, there's access to restaurants and shopping as well as many off the beaten path places to hike and explore. Inside the farmhouse, we were greeted by an amazing glimpse into the past life of generations of families and their stories. It's a bit like a museum but with all the modern amenities, making the stay comfortable and relaxing. Cook a meal, grill a steak, or just kick back and sip wine under the shade of the back yard as the Montana sunset fades. Cool nights and sunny days made the home comfortable and pleasant at all hours. It's a great place for a family with lots of room inside and out or for middle age to older couples who want a quiet spot away from it all. Oh, and you won't want to miss the spa experience of the large claw foot tub!

The owners, Marleen and Alice answered all our questions about local places to visit. The provided breakfast of fresh eggs and fruit was wonderful and the two sisters are some of the kindest folks I think we've ever proud of the Farmhouse that is their heritage. We'll be back soon!!!

Just like Grandma's.

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at the Farm House for 4 glorious days. Mardeen and Alice have done a wonderful job restoring and making the farm feel very homy and lived in. (Make sure to read all the articles about them while there and check out the old homestead.) Between all of the antique knick-knacks and some of the original furniture, it really made me feel like I was transposed back to my youth and staying at my grandparents farmhouse. It almost made me want to go out and do some chores... well maybe not, but feeding the chickens (and pheasant) was fun for me and our 10 year old daughter. Speaking of, she got a kick of the enormous selection of books and craft making materials. The farm is only a few miles out of town, yet it feels like hours away from anything. The morning views from the large kitchen window of the Bridger Mountains was just the icing on the cake we needed. Our family very much looks forward to returning soon. Hopefully in the winter this time.

We want to live here!!!

  • 5 of 5

This place is wonderful!!!! It is a journey back to a simpler and better time. I felt as if I were once again at my grandma's house.

We spent four nights and wished we could have stayed forever. We had planned to go out to dinner while in Bozeman but decided every day to get takeout or something to cook and rushed back to our farmhouse. What a pleasant way to end the day with a glass of wine, a beautiful sunset over the wheat fields and, of course, the chickens :-)

Alice, Mardeen and Phil are the best! The girls' love for their mother, Anna Mae, was apparent at every turn. The house is a tribute to all of their years together.

We will be back and hope it will be soon.

Gorgeous setting just 10 minutes from town...Wish I had time to run, bike or fish the Gallatin... Perfect location for that! Owners were accomodating, warm & hospitable. Going back...Thank you Mardeen & Alice!
