About Dan Gilroy

Originally from Ohio I moved our family here before the children grew up because it is the opposite of cold and grey. In the decades since I have grown to love the natural beauty of things in, on and around the water.

Dan Gilroy purchased this house in 1996

Why Dan Gilroy chose Lower Florida Keys

We had wintered in the area for 2 years and picked this location because of good neighbors, easy water access and a quiet street that was still near enough to US1 to have easy access to necessities. Honestly, the view from the house across the water is the best I've ever seen down here. There's not a house in the Keys that I've ever visited that has a better view. See for yourself and decide.

What makes this house unique

The view. Almost a half acre which is quite large for the Keys. Lots of privacy fenced parking for friends , boat trailers and good times. Both blue water and backwater access right outside the door. Did I mention the view?

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our group had a very enjoyable stay at Casa Domingi. The weather was cooperative as we were able to fish every day and did not have any rain. The property worked out fine for us. The location is excellent for fishing the bridge area. We docked three boats and rafted two together which worked okay. The big inflated buoy’s worked great to keep the boats off the sea wall. We moved the table from the west patio into the living room for dining. We had plenty of room for parking our vehicles and boat trailers. The place is very quiet and somewhat isolated which we liked. We ended up with seven people as one individual had an accident the week before the trip and had to cancel. I slept one night on the couch and the rest of the week on the seaside patio on an air mattress and cot. The breeze was very nice and kept the mosquitoes away. Our group was definitely liked the properties and will consider it next year. I liked your house manual as it is very complete and well done. We did not eat any meals out and cooked all our meals in house.

A couple of improvements we would suggest are a fish cleaning station and rod racks for stowing the fishing rods would be nice. I did see a scorpion in the lower lever as it scooted under the chair. The seawall could use a few more cleats and bumpers to more conveniently dock three boats directly on the sea wall.

Relaxing, comfortable stay at Casa Domingi!

  • 5 of 5

We had a a great stay at Casa Domingi! The house is well equipped and very clean, the beds are very comfortable, and we had everything we could need. Dan was very responsive to questions and helpful to our trip planning. There was cut up fruit in the refrigerator on our arrival which all of us enjoyed. The view from the deck is awesome! Loved watching the sunrise over the water. My husband and I were there with our three boys (two teens and an 8 yr old). They loved being able to fish right off the back deck. We rented kayaks for the week and were able to just paddle out whenever we wanted. We had another couple staying with us for the first few days and had plenty of room. We were less than 5 minutes from the grocery store which was great for us. Lot's of good restaurants nearby, including some in walking distance. Springers is less than half a mile away and we ate there twice. No Name pub is not far and had great pizza, and about $250K of dollar bills attached to the walls of the restaurant! We visited Key West, went on a fishing excursion, a kayaking excursion, a snorkeling trip, and visited Bahia Honda beach. Key deer, iguanas, and crabs in the front yard gave us lots of exciting viewing. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Casa Domingi!

Owner's Response: Thanks much folks, we're glad you had a great time and you bring up some great points. Casa Domingi has a spectacular view and a great location. Quiet, comfortable convenience is pretty tough to find these days, we are lucky to have all of that right here in paradise. The Keys is truly the best America has to offer. Kids and adult kids have lots to do every day and night down here, with the only things that are dull being the butter knives. We like things clean, bright and fun here in the sun...we think you do as well. Thanks for your business and your thoughts and have a great year.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

This house is well appointed and stylishly decorated. It's clean and uncluttered and has most everything you need to be comfortable in the kitchen. The location on Big Pine is handy for getting to Bahia Honda beach, the grocery store and restaurants. The view is lovely, especially sunrise. It feels private, and was quiet at night for sleeping. Dan is attentive and helpful, and it was great to not be bothered with any yard work or other maintenance going on when we were there. Secluded, yet close to conveniences!

Owner's Response: Thanks folks! We are also huge fans of peaceful enjoyment. We've also had plenty of seat time taking vacations of our own. That's just one more reason why Casa Domingi is a great vacation destination, we do our maintenance when we're supposed to... when you're not here. We work hard to keep a clean and tasteful space ready for your special time, just the way we like it. Thanks so much for your business.

Beautiful setting, Gorgeous sunrises, spacious house, private yet convenient to everything

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Domingi. The house was clean and well supplied and the setting on the water was lovely with gorgeous sunrises. The location is great in a very natural setting yet convenient to stores, Bahia Honda State Park, kayaking, fishing and other activities. It is an easy and very scenic ride to Key West which we enjoyed a few times. It was also nice to have our pet with us. The owners made our stay a great vacation experience. Thank you.

Owner's Response: Hey guys... Thanks! It always makes our day when good folks have a great time at Casa Domingi. We're picky when it comes to a clean hut. We're the same way when it comes to upkeep. We want your time to be relaxing and fun. From the spectacular view to the quiet relaxation to the nearby conveniences we think it's easy to see why our place is a great destination for your event... even or especially, if it's just some well deserved downtime. Have a great year folks.

Super Nice

As a 1st time renter, I didn't know what to expect. Turned out this place exceeded our expectations. Most any supply you could imagine was furnished. The patio on the open ocean was awesome. The house was very clean. Thank you Dan Gilroy for making this a smooth, professional process. It was a memorable stay for us.

Owner's Response: Thanks much for the comments folks, we're glad you had a wonderful time. It's so easy to do down here. "Peaceful" and "relaxing" sum it up very well. The views from this house are fantastic. Casa Domingi and Big Pine Key are truly hidden gems. Those little Key Deer have no idea how much they add to a person's day. If you like our sunrises, you'll love our moonrises. What a great way to wind down a day enjoying the moonlight dancing off the water with that special someone from your own private veranda. And when the moon isn't up, thanks to the lack of big city lights, the stars are just phenomenal. Some of the best times of life are right there in front of us.

Excellent stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the beautiful Casa Domingi a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We've been going to the Keys for lobster season for years so we've stayed in many different places, but this one was one of the best. The owners go to great lengths to make you feel at home. They left a binder full of great info about things to see & do, as well as how to operate electronics in the house. The fresh fruit in the fridge was awesome after a long, sweltering car ride. I could go on & on about all of the great things, but I'll hit the high points for the sake of time. There was an abundance of white, soft, fluffy towels. This may seems like a little thing, but I can assure you that towels run short when 8 people shower every night & scratchy towels are horrible on sunburned skin. Who wants to spend their vacation doing laundry? The individual air conditioners in the bedrooms were awesome!!! The kids loved the good wifi. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, but the can opener was hard to operate so we made a donation to the cutlery drawer lol! Loved the large, high end fridge/freezer. Of course the balcony area right off of the two bigger bedrooms was a favorite of all that stayed. The owners were staying less than 15 minutes so they provided their cell phone in case we had any trouble at all...which we didn't. The only negatives are things that the owners can not help but definitely warned us about. The noseeums were horrible & laughed at our bug sprays. Also, the water is very shallow in front of the sea wall. We did scratch the bottom of our new boat on the rocks a few times. Although it's only 22 feet, it is very heavy & we had a hard time going out & coming in even at an angle (we were very envious of the dock at the adjoining property). Once you get past the rocks, you are just a quick ride to the open water. Lastly, I got my deposit back in less than 2 weeks. I have had problems with 2 other properties in the past, as those owners obviously don't put it in trust as these owners do. That was a pleasant surprise, as I was expecting 4-6 weeks before seeing a check in the mailbox. Again, as an avid traveler to the Keys for lobstering, I put Casa Domingi at the top of the list of properties we have stayed at. Will definitely rent from these owners in the future!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your sincere comments. We do work at having things just the way we'd like them when we are out on safari. (Thanks for the can opener!) As a result of our cute little key deer, while the building of a separate dock is in the works, this could literally take 10 years to accomplish as any building on this island just takes years for the countless approvals and permits. The good side of this is that Big Pine Key will always be a green island, we take the good with the bad here. Bugs at dawn and dusk are best avoided as we can't use the same chemistry as folks on the mainland due to our sensitive environment. With lobsters literally just out the back door living in that great open water view, it's a hard place to beat. Thanks again and have a great summer.
