Love history and old houses wanted to preserve a little piece of the past.
Tom purchased this cottage in 2009
Wanted to preserve a piece of Naples history. The house was originally owned by Mrs.Frederick who the street was named after. Became a personal goal to restore her home to the beautiful home it was in 1925. Worked very hard to restore it to original in every detail inside and out. Thank you to all the people that stopped to say what a great job I was doing and how great it looked. Your kind words and encouragement were greatly appreciated.
Its a real old Florida experience in a 1925 cottage that was owned by a women who I,m still trying to find out more about. In 1925 there were 300 residents in Naples. Just found out Mrs. Frederick was the first school teacher in Naples. She taught 8 grades in a one room school house on 4th Ave S by the beach.
We had a wonderful time here in Naples. The beaches ! The shopping ! The food ! Loved your olde style Florida cottage. We both appreciated all the little details that made it so charming and cute. Wonderful location and having the bikes was a fantastic addition to our holiday. Thanks for being so accommodating.
This is our second stay in this cottage, perfect for the two of us, convenient to everything, immaculate, bikes and beach gear available, very very comfortable, love the sun room and backyard, (all good, thanks to the owner!).
We enjoyed the charm of the house. The amenities were just great.
Everything other reviewers have stated is accurate. Tom was easy to work with and very response to questions and had great suggestions, i.e. Where to rent a boat. The cottage was impeccable and very up to date. All the amenities make for a great vacation, particularly the bikes and beach equipment. The only down side is its close proximity to US 41 with all the road noise and congestion. Having said that you are well located to take advantage of all that Naples offers. The beds are heavenly. Don't miss the Real McCaw restaurant less than 1 mile away for a fantastic local treat. I'll be back to the cottage!
After booking this Naples cottage for a week in February we really didn't know what to expect. On arrival any doubts we had about the wisdom of our choice were immediately set to rest. Everything about the cottage and location exceeded our expectations. To start with it is, improbably, like the Tardis - you know, Dr Who's time machine - it is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. You'd never know from looking at it that it contains two comfortable bedrooms, a roomy living room, large kitchen with a separate breakfast area, a good sized bathroom with a large shower - which you can turn on without standing under cold water from the shower head.
The place is chock full of interesting touches and period pieces including some magazines from the 30s and old diaries, some of which seem to stretch back to the 1800s. The listing's comment that this is not a child friendly cottage makes sense given the ubiquitous ornaments and decorations. Everything in the house is good quality and designed to make this an exceedingly interesting and comfortable base from which to explore the Naples area. And if you decide to spend an evening at home instead of night-clubbing, there are plenty of high tech accoutrements to enliven your evening including a flat screen TV with hundreds of channels including Netflix and HBO, Sirius radio and a good Wi Fi setup. There are also some games and a selection of books if you didn't bring your own.
I had a couple of conversations with Tom, the owner, and like most of the other reviewers here found him to be very pleasant and agreeable and a pleasure to do business with. Altogether a wonderful experience which I am happy to recommend to anyone looking for accommodation for two or four in the Naples area.
This cottage was tastefully restored and utterly charming. It was unusual to find a rental cottage furnished to such a high standard – beautiful sinks and fixtures in keeping with the cottage period. At the same time, it had all the modern conveniences: wifi, incredibly comfortable memory foam beds, Apple television (I didn’t even know what that was, but one of our party from Germany was excited to be able to watch a couple episodes of the latest season of House of Cards not yet available in Germany), a Keurig coffee maker with a reusable K cup so you could make a good cup of coffee with your own coffee, a wonderful shower. The “vintage” kitchen was well stocked with all the kitchenware you would need to cook. Everything was spotless. The outdoor area is beautifully landscaped as well, with a delightful outdoor “kitchen” which I wish we had time to use.
I loved getting up early to listen to the birds in the garden, and I loved all the old bird prints throughout the house. With a bookshelf of books and beautiful old prints throughout, the cottage had real personality and was a far cry from the bland condos that are more typically available to rent in the area. It reminded me of a little Cape Cod cottage (is the owner from Massachusetts?) similar to one in our family, but much more beautifully restored! This was a real find!
If you want a condo right on the beach or with a swimming pool, or you want to be right downtown, this would not be the place for you, but if you are looking for a charming and tranquil cottage to enjoy in close proximity to all that Naples has to offer, this could be perfect. We were unfortunately here for only a few days and so didn’t get to see a great deal of Naples, but found the cottage to be a great base for a quick exploration of the Everglades, which was very beautiful!
Tom was very responsive to our queries about booking, inquired after us to make sure we checked in OK, and booking and check-in was seamless. All in all, a wonderful experience. Wished we could have stayed longer.
My husband and I rented this cottage for a week this winter and found it to be a delightful experience. The cottage is decorated with furnishings from the 1920's, but at the same time has all of the modern conveniences. Tom, the owner, stopped by and gave us the historical background which was quite interesting. The bicycles he provided were helpful for sightseeing the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and plan on returning next winter.
