Lovely charming place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Had a lovely time with my husband, mother and our dogs. Charming location and lovely cottage. Couldn't have asked for something more peaceful or tranquil. The owner was really nice, efficient and had great local knowledge.

A high standard property but less good for a baby.

  • 3 of 5

We booked a place with a pool so we could all go swimming with 8 month baby too but it felt a little cloudy and not quite warm enough for April. Great location and fitted out to a high standard. Start of season cobwebs on high beams but generally a very well thought out place. We would have really appreciated a pint of milk as we forgot ours but the complementary eggs were great.

Owner's Response: It's really a shame you felt you weren't able to swim with your baby. I do appreciate your views, and I am sorry that you were disappointed. Ultimately I wish you had mentioned your concerns to me during your short stay because if there was a problem I would have hoped to fix it as quickly as possible. I would have also been happy to offer you a pint of milk or told you how to find the nearby dairy if you had said. We sometimes miss the cobwebs when cleaning, and I do apologise. In the country sometimes they come quicker than one can get to them, but we do try to get them all. The pool water is heated to 28C, so it should never go below that temperature. The chemicals are checked daily and always maintained at the proper and safest levels. If the pool has a lot of use as during the busy holiday period in which you stayed the water can sometimes appear less clear. I will mention this to the pool service man after the holiday. It's no fun for us to get a less than perfect review because we do try to maintain our property to the highest standards. Most importantly we do not like for anyone to have had a less than wonderful stay. I assure you we will use your comments to try to do better in the future.

Dartmoor National Park is one of the last wilderness areas of Britain -- moorland landscape, wild ponies, ancient settlements -- great walks. Also easy access to Exmoor, and either the rugged seascapes of North Devon and Cornwall or the milder Channel shores of South Devon. 3 miles from Chagford (old town known for its shopping and nearby walks), 10 from Exeter, 8 from Okehampton. We are within 10 miles of three 18 hole golf courses including Bovey Castle. Only an hour from the Eden Project. Children love the Miniature Pony Centre at Moretonhampstead (5 miles) and the House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey (12 miles). Five minutes from the last castle built in England -- Castle Drogo. 13 miles from Exeter and Exeter University.

On a typical day at East Underdown you could talk a short walk up the road to the ancient stones of Spinster's Rock, lunch at one of the many local pubs, relax with a swim and sauna before cuddling up by the wood burner (or hanging out on the private patio).
