Attention to all teenagers, we are very pleased about your interest in our home, however we cannot rent it to HS Students, for after-proms, West Point Cadets for 500th Night, and other such parties. This is not about you in particular but one of those instants where a few bad apples ruined it for every one. Good luck in your search, we're sure you'll find a place.
The house is at the top of a hydrangea lined driveway. It is the only house in view. From the house you will see a view as lovely as any in the Catskills and the Hudson River valley region. There is an extremely large lawn in front of the house and an extensive garden.
You enter the house through the mud room where you can hang your coats and take off your shoes and gear. Next you will enter the large modern kitchen with marble counter tops, two sinks, double oven and two dish washers. This is a home designed for entertaining. There is a large gas barbecue just outside by the pool or you could go out to one of the countless restaurants in the region. To the right are floor to ceiling windows with glass doors that open on to the salt water swimming pool. Moving through the kitchen on the right are two bedrooms and in front of you the sun room made for relaxing and enjoying the view.
The dining room table seats 12 comfortably and past that is the living room. Cozy with Large over-stuffed couches and chairs surrounding the fireplace in as lovely a room as one could ask for. Just outside of the living room is the porch where you can sit in or out of the sun even on a rainy night. Enjoy the view and the humming birds that grace us with their presence every year. Up the steps is a sitting room and the entrances to four bedrooms. Up another flight is the the fully-finished attic which can sleep five comfortably in beds. Perfectly suited for children and young adults there is ample room for two inflatable beds. Going back down a flight from the living room you enter the office where the WiFi is located. Through the glass doors to the outside is the lawn and another sitting area. The wood for the fireplace is stored just steps from this door for easy access. Next to the office is the laundry room and our Steinway upright. Next to that room is television Room, a lovely bathroom, and another bedroom. Directly outside of the TV room is the hot tub, which shares the view with the sun room. Stunning on a wintery night, but also lovely in the summer.
The lawn is encircled by the driveway that leads right up to the house and straight around to the garage. When one is up for a short walk in the woods, one can cross the driveway to the west and enter the woods on the path. You will walk past the tree house, through the Maples that will soon give way to mountain pines. Continuing on the path you will find the stream that is a watering place for local animals like deer and raccoon.
Returning home you may have worked up a sweat and you can walk back directly to the swimming pool . The salt water is medicinal in many ways and no shower is needed after your swim.
In town, I'd recommend, Maggie's Crooked Cafe, for breakfast, The Last Chance, Antiques & Cheese Cafe, for lunch, and Pancho Villa's Mexican Restaurant, for Dinner. American Glory BBQ, a recent immigrant from the hipster paradise that is Hudson, New York, has just settled in comfortably on Main street. Live music and a beautiful bar await you for after hours at the Last Chance Tavern, hidden behind a secret shelving unit in the Cafe. Tannersville hosts, several restaurants, featuring Pizza, Chines food, and a classic stainless steel clad diner, we gaurantee that if you dont want to If the performing arts are your thing, the recently renovated Orpheum Theater, a remnant of the legendary, Orpheum Chain from the teens and 1920's is back, showing, movies, live theater, music and hosting the annual, Catskill Mountain Jazz Festival.

My family of 13, 10 adults & 3 children, spent 5 wonderful days at this large, but homey country estate. The layout of the house was perfect for a large group. It accommodated everyone together, yet there were nooks and crannies where you could be alone. And that kitchen was straight out of a magazine! Double sinks, 2 dishwashers, freestanding ice machine and counterspace that never ran out. The furnishings were casual and comfortable and the collection of books, numerous and eclectic.
Some of us went ziplining in the area, took the Scenic Skyride Chairlift to the top of Hunter Mt & hiked up to Kaaterskill Falls. Others swam in the delightful backyard pool during the day and at night, went into the hot tub to relax. Main Street in Tannersville was a short walk from the house and had an old fashion candy store and cafe, a liquor store, a women's boutique, a coffee & donut shop, post office, antique shop & more. There was also a playground in a local park, not far from town. The supermarket was a 5 min drive away.
The bedrooms were comfortable and it was a pleasure not to have to bring bedding and towels, as many other rentals require. My only complaint was that there were 3 rooms with double beds, too small for many adult couples and not conducive for singles or siblings to share. It's not just finding the # of bedrooms your group needs, but also the configuration of the beds in each room. Single beds may have worked better, as you can always move them together for a couple, but also sleep 2 children in 1 room. Some twin beds would have made the sleeping situation more flexible.
I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a large private country estate for a ski vacation or for a summer getaway. It pleased some very fussy people!
Website pictures and past reviews have all been excellent - so you go in with high expectations. Expectations are met and then some. We have a family reunion with ages from 72 - 2 years over July 4. Plenty to do in the house without getting in each others way. A kitchen for everyone. Plenty of options for physical and cerebral activity and this just in the house and compound. Town is charming and if needed bigger towns like Woodstock are only 20 minutes away.
Thank you for allowing us to use your beautiful home.
Our large extended family (of 19 people!) stayed at this lovely restored farmhouse in Tannersville over the long New Year's weekend. First let me say this home is so charming and unique with plenty of old home nooks and crannies to explore but does not lack in all the modern conveniences. Everything you could need is supplied and the view from the porch is breathtaking! After hiking the trail along the Kaaterskill Falls or skiiing, we really loved meeting back in the huge, open kitchen, dining and living area where all the family could gather. Ideally located a 5 minute drive from the quaint downtown of Tannersville and just a short ride from Hunter Mountain, we really felt that we had chosen the perfect place for our stay after researching MANY homes in the area. Thank you Laurie and George for being so kind, accommodating, and easy to work with. We will certainly visit again!
This house was everything we dreamed it would be and more. We got married here October 10th, 2015. The owner and the caretaker were easy to deal with, very accommidating and helpful. We had 19 family members sleep over for a long weekend and we had everything we needed from enough matching plates to set a nice table, to plenty of linens, to the fireplace ready to light. Having two dishwashers made everything easier, as well as an ice machine and laundry. The weekend we visited the fall leaves were peak and the views from the house were breathtaking. The grounds were immaculate, and its obvious the home is clean and well cared for. This house does not feel like a rental, from the moment you walk in, it feels like you are a valued guest in a friend's home. It is convienent to all the Catkills have to offer and yet the property is quiet and private. We consider ourselves very blessed to have had the opportunity to stay in such a wonderful home. We highly recommend staying here!
We, a group of almost twenty coworkers, couldn’t have asked for a more perfect setting for our annual company ski trip.
The home was very large and had plenty of space for everyone, with a phenomenal kitchen that made our meals together feel extra-special. All of the rooms were thoughtfully riddled with informative Post-It notes, which helped us navigate the home and learn where to find all we needed.
The grounds were ample and prime for snow-based activities, and the sizable hot tub and living room fireplace kept us warm in our downtime. The home was also an easy drive from both Hunter Mountain and Windham Mountain, which was great for our daily skiing and snowboarding.
In addition to our experience with the home, the owner and caretaker were very responsive and helpful before, during, and after our stay.
All in all, we had an incredible weekend and would happily recommend this home to anyone looking to spend a magical weekend in the Catskills.
I cannot say enough about this charming estate. My fiance and I wanted to get married in the Catskills and we were planning a small wedding but wanted to have everyone stay for the weekend. As soon as I saw pictures of this property I knew this was "the one".
The home is meticulously maintained, very private, has gorgeous mountain views from nearly every room and has the rustic charm I was looking for for my country wedding. All of the guests were very impressed with the home and enjoyed themselves immensely. We had a total of 12 people and there was more than enough room for everyone. We didn't even utilize the upstairs attic that has 4 more beds. The house is spaced out nicely so that there's privacy and room to sneak away to read a book in the cozy sitting area with expansive mountain views, or sip your morning coffee in awe of the breathtaking views of the mountains from the beautiful wrap-around porch. The dining area boasts a large country table that fits 12, perfect for big country breakfasts. The kitchen is very large and perfect for entertaining a crowd. Complete with cookware, utensils, etc. The bedrooms are comfy & peaceful with the mountain breeze coming through the windows. The pool area is very large and perfect for entertaining, barbecuing, etc. We had our reception dinner by the pool and it was beautiful. We had our dinner catered by American Glory BBQ which is right down the street from the home. Everything was delicious and was delivered hot and ready to eat. Dessert came from the Catskill Mountain Country Store, also right down the road - the best pies around.
The wedding ceremony was held on the expansive front lawn overlooking the mountains. The view was spectacular and the weather could not have been more perfect. I believe the temperature was upper 70's to lower 80's that day and it was perfect and cooler at night which was great for a dip in the heated pool and the hot tub. This was a photographer's dream....mine had a blast taking our wedding photos. So many great photo ops around the property including the real Brooklyn subway sign on the front of the home, lower level. We are so happy that we found this home and were able to share such a special event in such a beautiful setting-hope to go back to celebrate our anniversary!
The owners and caretakers were a true pleasure to work with. A big thank you to the owners for allowing us to have the wedding of our dreams at their amazing home.
The nearby Kaaterskill Falls, (3-4 miles)is the second highest waterfall in New York. Second only to Niagara Falls. There are many festivals in the region celebrating, International Music, Folk Music, Rock Music, and Dance Music. There are also many cultural festivals, celebrating, Irish, German, and Polish cultures. In the town itself there are wonderful events in the summertime like the , Wacky Races, where people build there own vehicles and race them down Main Street. Hilarity ensues! There are vintage car shows and recently there was a Rip Van Winkle, who slept a long time on our mountain, Carving Contest and Auction for a local charity.
