"We are glad we decided to stay in Southwest Harbor. The place is within walking distance of the main street and had easy access to food, galleries and the town library. I would recommend Southwest Harbor to anyone who wants a layback place to stay. The layout of the cottage made great use of the place. The property was clean and just like the photos (actually the owner was in the process of making some upgrades in terms of decorations and landscaping). We would stay here again."
My husband and I came up from PA for a long weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The farmhouse cottage was exceptionally clean & everything was in good condition. The bed was comfortable, there were plenty of blankets and clean towels and the kitchen was well stocked too (although we ate out every meal). One thing that the pictures don't show is right behind the farmhouse there is a small picnic area for the farmhouse guests & the guests in the 3 rooms behind the farmhouse in a seperate building. It wasn't noisy for us but it might be during the busier season. We would definitely stay here again. Its a great price and good location, close to bar harbor but away from all of the crowds.
We loved the location of this property. We could walk to town and several good restaurants. Also being away from the Bar Harbor craziness was a plus!
A couple of suggestions:
A night light in the bathroom
The outside light above the door
was not working
The kitchen floor was dirty-I
spilled coffee and wiping it up
showed me how dirty
More blankets available for cool
On the whole we were pleased with our property!
The FARMHOUSE was absolutely charming! With re-purposed wood beams and floors, and a functional floor plan. Everything that was advertised was there and functional. The location is convenient to town and to any of the sites in the Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor area. The Owners were always available. When the batteries in the smoke alarm began "chirping", Gail's husband was there within minutes with new batteries.
I highly recommend the Farmhouse if you plan to visit the Southwest Harbor/Bar Harbor area.
Convenient to local restaurants as well as Acadia. Clean and comfortable. Easy access and parking. Farmhouse but nice kitchen and bath. Outdoor area with grills and tables made for a nice area to watch the night sky full of stars.
We had a fabulous five days in the farmhouse cottage. It is a small place, but perfectly comfortable for my husband and I, plus our toddler son (we brought a pack-n-play for him to sleep in). There is no A/C in the cottage but it stayed cool via the open windows for night breezes and ceiling fans. The washer/dryer was especially useful as was the provided detergent. There are enough dishes, pots & pans, etc. for us to prepare simple meals for breakfast and the odd evening that we wanted to stay in. The water pressure was fantastic, which was especially appreciated after long days hiking through Acadia! The only improvement that could be made for comfort would be the squeaky and hard mattress.
We loved the cottage's location. It is set back from the busy road far enough that the we couldn't hear the trucks passing. Every day or night, we took a stroll into the heart of Southwest Harbor for breakfast at the Common Good, or dinner at the Quietside Cafe or other spots, or to buy a blueberry pie at the little bakery we passed!
The farmhouse cottage was a great decision towards the success of our island vacation!
Southwest Harbor is located on the affectionately labeled 'Quietside' of Mount Desert Island. A quaint village surrounded by Acadia National Park and some of the most beautiful hiking trails, coves, and valleys for exploring. There is a little something for everyone: tennis, golf, boating, ferries to the outer islands, varied summer camps for children, museums, and antique shops for exploring. A variety of restaurants suited for your taste whether you are looking for a fine dining experience or a family night out - all within walking distance.
