Please read the over 38 FIVE-STAR reviews where past guests have proclaimed my Oulala House/ Pool & Gardens as "Breathtaking!, " Simply Gorgeous!," and "An Oasis in the CIty!". This 4800 sq. foot two-story 19th century home with 12 foot ceilings throughout has lush tropical gardens, flowing fountains and and an outdoor pool area that streches over a whole city block. Guest have called it "Magical at night!". The property is located in the most vibrant section of the city less than 1/2 block from the historic St. Charles Avenue streetcar .This spacious and luxury 5-STAR historic 19th century house/pool and gardens has become a destination experience with guests returning again to enjoy its classic New Orleans glories. It is in walking distance of hundreds of famous and hip restaurants, shops and music venues and blocks away from the magnificent Audubon Park and Zoo.

The 4800 square foot two-story historic OULALA house is appointed with fine art and antiques throughout. It offers a classic New Orleans experience with all the modern amenities one would expect with a luxury property. It has 4 beautiful antique appointed bedrooms with queen beds and 3 full baths and can sleep 8-11 people.

For larger groups that need more sleeping accommodations consider adding the Oulala's charming Garden View Guest House located in a separate walled rose garden on the property FOR AN ADDITIONAL RENTAL FEE, The GUEST HOUSE which sleeps up to 6 people can be added offering accommodations up to 17 people with the main house and guest house rental together.

The property spans a whole block and has two entrances on two separate streets. It is enclosed by 7 foot high stucco walls that enclose several lush and tropical gardens. Cascading French fountains flow in each enclosed garden setting. The large main gardens includes a sparkling pool flanked by a flowing wall fountain, a covered outdoor charming gazebo, and outdoor grill, numerous seating areas for dining or visiting and a profusion of changing seasonal plantings in the many garden beds. The gardens are magical at night with all of the twinkling lights for outdoor dining and gazing at the stars.

The 4 spacious and beautifully decorated bedrooms of the Oulala House all have with queen beds with luxury linens offering beds for 8 people.. Each bedroom is appointed with antiques and fine art. All have ceiling fans , 12 foot ceilings 19th c armoires. The Master Bedroom has a a view of the pool through its bay windows and a private bath with a large walk-in open shower; the upstairs Veranda Suite and Blue Room share a bathroom with jet tub through a central upstairs hall and the downstairs Parlor bedroom is appointed with Louis XVI antiques and has a beautiful hall bathroom with an antique marble table converted to a sink. All of the three bathrooms have full baths with two having tubs and all three having showers.

There are 3 antique day beds for 3 extra guests included in the price for the main house.. One is located in the large Veranda Suite; one in the large Master bedroom and one in the upstairs library which adjoins the Veranda suite and the upstairs balcony. These three extra beds offer bedding for 3 more people in addition to the 8 guests allowing a maximum of 11 guests to stay in the main Oulala House.

Elegant dining can be had in the formal dining room, complete with an original to the house 19th c crystal chandelier, 19th plaster ceiling medallion and console piano It has seating for 8-10 and the adjacent French country kitchen has a French 19th c table that seats 6. There is plenty of outdoor seating in the expansive patio around the pool with a covered marble dining table that seats 8 and a charming covered gazebo. There are outdoor dining tables and seating that can accommodate around 20 people.

The spacious kitchen comes with all of the Louisiana spices, gourmet cookware, lots of tableware , and table linens. There are flat screen televisions in all of the bedrooms and in the family seating area all equipped with cable . There is high speed internet WI-FI, central air and heat, and a laundry room with a washer and dryer.

Just two blocks away is the Mississippi River levee where you can take sunrise and sunset walks to enjoy breathtaking views of the large ships gliding down the river. Guests who have stayed here have raved about the home and enjoyed its historic character and details. It is wonderful home for family entertaining as the flow from the kitchen onto the patio deck overlooking the gardens is perfect to oversee the large lush gardens with several bistro table sets, flowing fountains, antique gates and sparkling pool.The walled gardens spread over the block and the property has two separate entrances on two streets. There is off-street parking for two cars on site.

The home is located in a fabulous section of Uptown less than 1/2 block from the St. Charles Avenue famous streetcar line which can take you all along the Avenue right to the beginning of the French Quarter.

This gorgeous historic property was honored and reviewed by the VRBO BEARS (see review above listing) who called it 'Magnificent' and awarded it 5 Stars. . This roving VRBO/Homeaway review group of 13 people stayed in both the Oulala House's main house and its charming on-site Garden View guests house.

On the rear of the property where the original carriage house use to be is an upstairs sunny open-air GARDEN VIEW GUEST HOUSE' that can be rented additionally to accommodate up to 6 more guests. . This private apartment overlooks the back enclosed garden and is also available for rent either with the main house for extra guests are separately for smaller groups of travelers. The upstairs garden apartment has a separate private entrance that enters into a beautiful French country courtyard with a French Provincial Town fountain flowing in the middle of it and has a large provincial wooded table for outdoor dining. The upstairs apartment rents for an additional $250-$375 plus taxes and fees a night depending on the season. It has two private bedrooms with queen beds, and a bunk bed with two twin beds tucked away in a nook in the open air floor plan of the living area. It has a full bath, central air and heat, WI-FI, flat screen cable enabled TV, and a fully stocked kitchen. It is a light filled space offering beautiful views of the gardens and fountains below. You will see touches of my French collection of art, antiques, garden ornaments and fountains throughout my property which I continue to enhance on my travels. My large collection upstairs and downstairs of books includes an impressive selection of books on the historical influences found in gardens around the world. I also have a large selection of poetry books that may be of some interest to some of our visitors.

There is no more vibrant, personable, and walkable section of New Orleans then Riverbend where the myriad of 19th century houses and its people have such character. Since I write and lecture on the historical gardens I have found a great resource from my strolls through the glorious neighborhoods that surround my home and gardens.

What makes this house unique

Experience the charm of an authentic 19th century New Orleans home with its upscale comforts yet historical references. The 12 ft. ceilings, exquisite furnishings, and large rooms are one of the first thing some guest note on their arrival. Others enjoy exploring the rooms to view the fine art and antiques that they discover on their stay. However, one of the most wonderful experience is the warm and gracious setting one feels in the kitchen for breakfast or dinner where fond memories are made through good food and conversation. You will want to cook in this kitchen and then slip outside to the outside dinning area to enjoy the twinkling lights strung along the 7 foot stucco walled garden wall all year long. The favorite spot most of my guests enjoy gathering is the verdant expanse of the pool area with its numerous seating areas The sound of the fountains flowing makes for a romantic candle lite night. In the warmer months most of my guest have chosen to sip cocktails by the pool while they take a refreshing dip after a day of sightseeing. There are many places to have private conversations on the grounds that has several gardens enclosed behind stucco walls and antique gates. My favorite is star gazing on the upstairs terrace on a clear night.

We loved our stay at the absolutely beautiful Oulala House. The owner's profession as a garden ornament consultant could be seen everywhere from the front door 19thc urns to the antique olive jars in the pool and garden area. We were delighted at how many goodies the owner had put out to welcome us upon our arrival. Wine, milk, bacon,eggs, coffee, orange juice,cookies, chips, nuts and her signature chocolate kisses throughout the house in bowls. Fresh flowers on tables and in hallways made us feel like we were at arriving at a special party just for us. The house is gorgeous and makes you feel like you are in Old New Orleans, but has all the modern conveniences that we would want. The wonderful patio gazebo and pool was our favorite gathering spots where string lights and candles set a great mood for the night. We want to come back next year, as this was a memorable experience. You will love your vacation here!

For large groups the Oulala House/Pool and Gardens also has a Garden View apartment that if rented for additional fee also could accommodate up to 6 additional people . The main house sleeps 8 people in four queen beds for the rate nightly rate. Three extra bed can be made up in the main house for a one-time fee of $75 a bed. Thus, the main house can accommodate up to 11 people comfortably for a family reunion or extended friend gathering. With the rental of the guest house and the main house the property can accommodate in beds up to a MAXIMUM of 17 people. Please inquire for extra pricing. The beautiful pool and patio is a major plus for this house as it is one of the best properties offered in New Orleans that features this amenity. All of our guests gravitate to the pool after their long days of site seeing and activities. It seems to be the highlight of every groups experience day and night.

Breathtaking House and Gardens

I wasn't sure what to expect upon our arrival for our stay at this home - the pictures shown are very pretty but in person it's so much more and magical. There were 8 in our group and this house slept all of us easily with room leftover. Michelle had stocked the house with the essentials to get you through until you could go shopping if you planned on cooking at the house which we did and took full advantage of the outside grill cooking steaks, scallops, etc. She even had a bottle of red wine on hand and extra charcoal delivered to us at no charge which shows she goes above and beyond. We enjoyed the outside Gazebo for our dinner and it was simply amazing and quite memorable having dinner with good friends under the sparkling lights and the whole garden area (especially at night) was like something out of a fairytale book. It was extremely helpful being close to everything so if you ran out of something you could simply walk half a block to get ice, beer, etc. and Cooter Browns Bar is also just half a block away which had great food. The streetcar was so fun to take to Bourbon Street or other very cool bars along the way (Blind Pelican being one) with everyone and extremely affordable - not to mention it is the longest of New Orleans' streetcar lines, the St. Charles Avenue line, is the oldest continuously operating street railway system in the world with it appears to be original cars. Thanks Michelle and to all of your staff for making amazing memories for my friends and myself. Would love to come back again.

Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!

What a find! This beautifully appointed and historic home was all that we imagined and more. The house exudes charm and is gorgeous and spacious. It is decorated handsomely with antiques and art work yet imperfect enough, with an abundance of silk flowers, to feel warm and inviting. The owner generously and unexpectedly stocked the kitchen with snacks, beverages, pastries, and more making a trip to the grocery store unnecessary. Now that is what I call a vacation!

I discovered upon returning home that I wistfully yearn for the charming covered front porch where I could curl up with a good book, even on a usually discouraging rainy day, and pass hours with the sounds of the fountain and nearby streetcar in the background. Blissful!

The garden and pool area were truly an oasis with palm trees gracefully draping the edges of the pool providing a tranquil retreat from the energy of the surrounding city. A gorgeous French fountain cascading alongside the pool as well as a variety of antique garden accessories offers some local flavour to further enhance the ambiance. And, as luck would have it, there is plenty of outdoor seating as well as string lighting and lanterns to provide the perfect setting for a group dinner or celebration. Laissez les bond temps rouler!

The home's location could not be more ideal. It is set away from the hustle and bustle of the quarter while only a stone's throw to the St. Charles streetcar line, making it easily accessible to all of NOLA's highlights. In addition, it is an easy walk to Tulane, Audubon Park and Zoo, Magazine Street, and more. The property is adjoining the vibrant River Bend area with its abundance of fantastic dining choices such as Vincent's, Camellia Grill, La Madelleine, Cooter Brown's, etc...all just a block or two away. The area conveniently offers a Walgreens and some retail options as well.

I cannot say enough good things about the lovely and enchanting Oulala house. Come enjoy all the fabulousness that NOLA has to offer and stay here. I expect that you will not be disappointed.

Really lovely, and such a generous host!

This is a fabulous house in a fabulous location, but what really makes it special is Michelle's generosity. The kitchen and fridge were well-stocked -- there was even a king cake to welcome us for Mardi Gras! The house is huge and beautifully decorated, with a very New Orleans feel. There is a gorgeous pool -- too bad it was too cold to use it! The streetcar stop is a half-block away, making it easy to get anywhere in the city, and plenty of things are within easy walking distance. We had a great time going to see all the big parades -- you could walk to where Thoth started on Magazine, and the rest were an easy hop on the streetcar to Napoleon Avenue. Michelle was easy to get in touch with and always wiling to answer questions. I could not recommend this more highly! A really special property.

Owner's Response: What a wonderful family group that I would love to host again when the gardens are in full bloom and the sparkling pool is warm enough for them to swim in. There are only a few months out of the year when the pool is a little to cold to swim; however, I did have some guest in early January this year from Canada that jumped in the pool and swam during their entire stay in 40 -50 degree weather which is cold for us down south. I am always so pleased when my guests enjoy my Oulala House/Pool & Gardens. My staff puts so much love and attention into every detail. These were the perfect guests in every way as they understood and respected my policy of "Being A Good Neighbor" to our neighborhood who I ask to be treated as my guests would treat their own neighbors at home. When I travel , I always stay in vacation rental properties and it always gives me so many ideas of how I can do more to improve my guests experience. We hope you come again to enjoy New Orleans and maybe for some summer nights in our tropical gardens with its twinkling lights and flowing French fountains cascading by the pool. Historical home full of New Orleans charm

Wonderful place to stay! we were a large party ranging in age from 7 to 77, from England, Australia and California, meeting for a family reunion. We were hoping for a place to gather and create special memories. And this was it! The house is gorgeous, filled with historical New Orleans character. Everyone was blown away by it the moment we walked in the door. Comfortable, spacious and so, so full of color and charm. The rooms open to each other allowing our large group to have some wonderful evenings hanging out. The yard and pool twinkles with lights and vintage statues and fountains. Many, great games of hide and seek! The owner was really nice and it was a really friendly and straightforward rental process. Couldn't recommend it more.

Perfect girls getaway

Had a great time at the house. There were 8 of us and we had plenty of room and were very comfortable. We truly enjoyed our stay and swimming in the pool at night. Michelle was available for anything that was needed. The place was stocked with enough food to get us going so we didn't need to shop as soon as we arrived. We did not take the trolley, although it is really close to the house. Many nice restaurants by the house too. I would recommend this place for any gahtering.

A separate rental contract is required that is provided by the Oulala House/Pool & Gardens to a guest to rent this property once a booking request is made. To reserve the house a 50% non-refundable deposit of the whole amount is required with
the balance due approximately 10 days before arrival. 30 days notice required to cancel the balance owed on the reservation with written notice through this website to the owner. Failure to do so will require the remaining balance to be due. A Damage insurance policy is required that is purchased for
through VRBO during the booking policy and ranges from $59-$89 depending on the size of the group. This insurance policy covers $1500 in damages, if any, occur to the property during the guests stay.
