Cute property in great location!
Really close to everything. The property was clean and well-kept. It’s a quiet neighborhood and relaxed atmosphere. Easy check in.
Perfect girls trip get away
We were absolutely delighted with this property. Great neighborhood, perfectly located close to all there is to see in downtown Austin. The house was absolutely adorable and we all agreed that we would try to rent the same location if we come back. Loved it!
Great getaway close to everything!
We had a great time! Great property close to everything. Clean , well stocked, quiet neighborhood.
Clean, spacious, well appointed
We had a lovely - if brief - stay here. The house is exactly as pictured; and directions were clear. Highly recommend!
Great Location and Very Comfortable
My relatives live in Clarksville so we knew we wanted to rent a place in this neighborhood. It is a GREAT neighborhood. Close to everything, walkable and exudes the old Austin vibe that I knew growing up in an adjacent neighborhood.
The house is charming. Maintains the charm of an older house with updated comfort. Rooms are very spacious and loved having so many windows which made the space bright and cheery. Agree with another review that the Master can be a bit warm at night especially with the bedroom door closed, but there is a backup air conditioner in the room that I used a few hrs each night to keep the room perfectly comfortable. Beds are comfortable, nice linens, and the whole house is very clean. We met both Lee and Jim during our stay and they are very friendly and welcoming. There are 3 houses on the property but the rental feels very private and very quite. We will definitely rent this place again.
What a gem!
What a great place! Love the authenticity in keeping this place true to its era. The location is stellar, parking a dream, homey, and the decks were wonderful to use while sipping tea and writing. Quiet and quaint. Cannot wait to stay here again. Thank you Amanda!
We are so pleased you enjoyed the Nelson! Thank you and come back and see us any time! :)
The Nelson house is located in the Old West Austin/Greater Clarksville neighborhood. Located just a mile from the Capital, Congress Ave, and the heart of downtown, this neighborhood has a varied and lively history. Originally farms, after the Civil War part of this area was turned into a black neighborhood to house the former slaves that chose to stay on and work on the farms for pay. The black foreman in charge of parceling out the lots was named Clark – hence Clarksville. Over the next hundred years the farms were slowly developed into middle and upper middle class white neighborhoods. In the 1950’s and 60’s the area, under threat of being demolished for a freeway that was never built, fell into disrepair and became a popular place for UT students to find cheap rent close to campus. About 1970 the neighborhood began a renaissance and gentrification that continues today. It has become one of the most desirable neighborhoods in town, particularly for professionals and young families, with its good public schools, great restaurants and retail within walking distance and a location that lets its residents avoid many of the city’s traffic problems. Although some of the houses (including the main Nelson House) date to the 19th century, the predominant architecture is 20th century cottages and bungalows, with a scattering of modern homes added recently.
