The Littlehouse is located less than 10 minutes off of Highway One, and is accessible by a good road in all seasons. It is situated in a redwood forest in a canyon along a tumbling stream. Pleasantly isolated, it enjoys sunny days and cool nights. Its amenities, delightful furnishings, full kitchen, gas fireplace, luxurious bed and bath, generous closet area, private deck, are appropriate for either short or long term visits. Coastal and forest hiking trails and scenic beaches are nearby. Carmel with its delightful shops and many restaurants is a short drive away as is the Big Sur Village, Nepenthe and Pfeiffer Beach . Simply a delight.
Marketing these days is too much with us. Flowery modifiers, lyrically poetic descriptions, vivid adjectives wash over us all day, everyday. I can't take it. Just know that the LittleHouse is a special lodging in a beautiful place.
All the reviews on here are accurate. Maureen and Gerald have created a wonderful get-away in the middle of a forest. It's simple but still impressive. Our days were spent travelling the coast seeking out adventures. Following dinner, we would make our way back to the cabin to relax and recharge for the next day's adventure. The cabin is tastefully decorated, has a comfortable bed, and a nice kitchen for any of your cooking needs. We usually reserved our cooking for breakfast and then traveled out for lunch and dinner. So many good options out there.
Can't wait to go again.
We loved our trip to Big Sur and our stay at the Littlehouse. I think the other reviewers have covered all of the elements that made the Littlehouse special. I would simply add that I would definitely stay here again, and would without hesitation recommend the Littlehouse to anyone looking to stay in the area.
We stayed here on our trip to Northern California for our honeymoon. It was so beautiful and the owners were so nice and helpful. It's a little ways out into the forest but worth the drive! Near Big Sur and a short drive from Carmel by the Sea (maybe 20 mins?) The perfect place to go if you are looking for a retreat away from it all. Absolutely wonderful and we would definitely love to come back someday.
We were really pleased with our stay at the Littlehouse. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. It's a modern accommodation with everything you could need to have an enjoyable stay in a somewhat remote location. It's very well situated, just 10 minutes outside of Carmel and right on the doorsteps of gorgeous Big Sur. The listing description was accurate, there were no surprises. Gerry was a great host, taking the time to tell us about the place and the area but also respectful of our privacy. We would definitely recommend this place to our friends.
My husband and I stayed here for our mini-moon for a few nights. The Little House is beautiful and peaceful and you can tell by the details that it was built with love and care. Gerry was very friendly and greeted us upon arrival and helped bring up our bags and showed us the house. A simple, but thoughtful breakfast was provided for the first morning, bread, eggs, fruit, jam and champagne, which lasted the two of us both days. There is an extensive dvd collection and the house was very cozy.
Being set in the redwoods with hardly anyone around was great. It was still easy enough to get in and out, even though it was set about a 10 minute drive back in a canyon off the coast with dirt roads, as long as you don't mind the 70 steps up to the house. We frequented the Rocky Point restaurant which was only about 15 min from the house for the views.
We can't wait to go back!
We had a wonderful long weekend here and were so charmed by all the love and care that has gone into creating this little house. Gerry and Maureen have designed an elegant place with exquisite attention to detail, with everything you need and not too much. We've stayed at quite a few places that felt cluttered, but not this place. While the few pieces of art are really tasteful they haven't covered every square inch of wall or surfaces so that there is a serenity about the place. The kitchen is well-appointed, perfect selection of cookware for two people. The shower is wonderful, beautiful to look at and and just the right amenities. There's a private deck off the bedroom, and if you leave the window open you can listen to the sound of the creek all night. There's also a really nice selection of DVD's. Though many of the Big Sur parks were closed due to the Soberanes fire, we had wonderful hikes at Point Lobos and the west side of Garrapatos Park. There's also a regional park close by with a lot of hiking to be had. Of all the vrbo's and airbnb's we've rented or been to with friends, this was our favorite and we hope to return.
