The Point House:
Miles of Atlantic Ocean views interrupted only by Monhegan Island shimmering on the distant horizon make this three bedroom cottage a summertime favorite. Sit on the deck and listen to the surf pound on the rocks below (or walk down and sit on the rocks), then take a stroll down the lane to Pemaquid Lighthouse (now on the Maine quarter) for unmatched scenic beauty. Comfortable furniture, and a fully equipped kitchen to steam lobsters fresh off the boat. This summer home has it all. Open from May 15 to November 1st. Enjoy ! ! !
Our stay at the Point House couldn't have been any better. I was in need of a peaceful location to de-stress and this fit the bill. The ocean air, crashing waves, occasional sound of the bell bouy melts away any tension. There are all the comforts of home provided, comfortable sleeping and seating, well equipped kitchen. Sandra is a pleasure to work with, very helpful. Looking forward to returning and maybe exploring the area a bit more although I am perfectly content to stay at the house and savor the sea.
Our family spent one week at the Point House and we couldn't have asked for a better home or location. The ocean views are spectacular with the porch overlooking the rocky coast. The town is a quiet retreat - we enjoyed kayaking, walking along the rocks to the lighthouse, going to the local beach and exploring the surrounding area. The house has everything you need to relax and rejuvenate.
We were two weeks again at the Point House. Cozy and all the charm of an original summer house, but with modern amenities. Large windows for stunning views of the ocean and crashing surf just yards from the house. Antique furnishings and comfy beds. The kitchen is well equipped for meals in. Nice restaurants near by, but avoid the Harbor Room , we found everything else great.
Kayaking, hiking, swimming at the beach or at the dam are just a few of the pleasures of the area. Don't hesitate, Sandra Cheney is a gem and so are her rentals.
My family of six were blessed to spend a week in this jewel of a house! The pictures can not convey how beautiful it is. The view and sounds of crashing waves below the home will take your breath away.
First, it is absolutely spotlessly clean, The beds were comfortable. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need to make a meal. It is a sunny place with lots of windows to let in the natural cool breezes. It has a well kept yard with plenty of grass that leads to the rocky coastline where I sat for hours watching the waves crash and spray high in the air. Awesome. Look to the right and see the classic lighthouse, walk down at sunset or sunrise and have it to yourself before the crowds arrive. The house is on a little road just up from the lighthouse and no one drives down it but the people staying there. It is really quiet and private.
The three upstairs bedrooms (not shown in the pictures) are chock full of antique furniture, my grand daughters loved their rooms. The rooms have even better views of the ocean too, and oh my those breezes are heavenly!
The bedroom on the lower level is perfect for the elderly and close to the bathroom. It is not ocean front but I could still hear the surf at night and look at the pretty window box and garden in the morning.
The one bathroom could present a problem for some I guess, we managed fine. It is a large bathroom, painted a pale blue with a window with a crisp white curtain. It is really nice.
The house had three bikes in the shed that my grand daughters used to ride down to get ice cream cones everyday. (Seagull Gift Shop and Restaurant). We walked to breakfast there a few times as well, I highly recommend. It was nice to let them have some independence and feel safe. They also loved to "run the rocks" that Pemaquid Point is known for. Just make sure they stay away from ocean. It is challenging to navigate those granite cliffs, sigh, I can't do it anymore...but got to see my girls do it!
I over posted on facebook whist there and all my friends are like : "Where are you? I want to rent that place!" I wish I could post some of my photos here.
I squeezed a week out of the rental availability, its totally booked in August from families that return every year. If you are lucky enough to find an opening...you get the drift.
Thank you Sandy, I need a month next year! Tell Heidi I wish she could come clean my house, and thank her for me once more.
Perfectly appointed cottage. Stunning views of the ocean from inside the house and outside from the deck. Good size yard with shrubs and trees, steps down to rocks and surf. Most of the house retains its original character. Antique furnishings lend to the charm. The kitchen functions well for meals. Five minute walk to casual dinning and light house. The area also has several dining options from Shaws to Anchor Inn. Perfect place to relax and enjoy the sea.
Pemaquid is an historical area on the coast of Maine. It is famous for its Lighthouse, Fort William Henry and Colonial Pemaquid with its artifacts found on site. There is a 1/4 mile white sand beach nearby. There are many restaurants in the area from Damariscotta to New Harbor. Antique and gift shops abound in the Damariscotta area. Walking around Pemaquid Point is a favorite past time morning and night.
