The scent of balsam fir will surround you when you drive to this recently built cottage with 4 bedrooms, 2 &1/2 baths, and a short drive(1 mile) to swimming and boating.
An open living room/kitchen area with a separate dining room and 1 bedroom/ 3/4 bath is the set up of the main portion of the house. Then walk through past the tubbing room and laundry room, to the book nook and 2 more bedrooms.
The master is up the hidden stairs and has a queen-sized bed, large screen TV, separate bath/whirlpool tub, tiled shower and walk-in closet.
Outside is a screened -in porch (access from inside and out), a large deck, a hammock and a fire pit area.
Centrally located, Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor and all of Acadia are easy to reach for touristing and sight seeing. At the end of the day, come back to the peacefulness of the Maine woods and a Summer Place ~.

This is the perfect rental for my family of six, plus my two parents who typically join us for a couple days during our vacation. This cottage is clean, comfortable, and kid-friendly. We have stayed here two years in a row and hope to come back again. The cottage is homey, relaxing, and reasonabley priced, rather than luxurious (although the master bath is extremely nice). But with four kids I want a house that is comfortable and not one where I need to worry about my little ones damaging something. My kids love the books, toys, and space to run around outdoors. I love the upstairs bedroom and bathroom for the occasional quiet space.
The pictures and description on the HomeAway site are accurate and representative. If anything I'd say the pictures don't do it justice. I think it is worth noting that the queen bedroom is directly off the main living area. My parents also mentioned that the queen mattress is not the best, but it did not stop them from coming back. No complaints about any of the other mattress.
We prefer being on the quiet side of the island so we are happy with the house's location. Most years we don't even go into Bar Harbor because we come to hike in the park. We typcially head out to the eastern part of the island for a longer hike in the morning and then after a rest go on one of the many shorter hikes or other activities on the western side of the island. It would be nice to be closer to Park Loop Road, but the other perks of this house make the trade-off more than worth it.
The wifi stopped working twice while we were there this year, but it was quickly fixed both times, and after the second occurance the owners relocated the router so we could restart it ourselves. We were very happy with the customer service from both the owner and rental company.
We've stayed in a couple other houses on Mt Desert Island and this cottage has a few notable advantages that don't show up in HomeAway site. We had great cell phone coverage at the cottage. This was not the case at other places we've stayed. And other than one stray, I did not see any ants inside this house. No food was safe in some of the other places we've rented, so the lack of ants was a pleasant surprise.
Our biggest problem was remembering to close the freezer door because it pops open when you close the fridge door. Obviously not a big problem. I highly recommend this cottage to anyone visiting Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park.
A Summer Place is located in a very private and quiet area of Mount Desert but is just a mile from Long Pond's, Pond's End, with rentals for kayaking and canoeing right across the street.
The quaint village of village of Somesville is just a couple miles around the corner.
All the amenities of Acadia National Park, are no more than 20 - 25 minutes away at the most ~
