WOW-- my family stayed at this home for a week at the end of August. We loved it!!!
The home is open, spacious, very comfortable, well stocked and has amazing views of the bay. We ate all our meals on the porch , the kids went kayaking right off the lower deck and crabbing was very easy off the back deck as well. The manager , Dave, was a gracious , friendly guy who was very helpful and guided us for kayaking rentals, where to eat and order crabs for our crab feast. He was generous with his time. The owner is also very easy to reach and deal with and he clearly loves this home.
Captain"s Cove has a restaurant, swimming pool and tennis courts so it is more of a resort than just a beach house. The kids played tennis while my husband and I exercised in the pool , then the kids went kayaking and then we went to the beach! Driving to the beach is part of going to Chincoteague and the extra time it took to get from Captain's Cove to Asseteague was well worth it !
We are going back for 2 weeks next year !!
Our family very much enjoyed our stay at the property. To begin with, the owner John was very gracious and helpful in orienting us to the property, the resort and everything we needed to know before arriving. Second, the property managers Dave and Janice were extremely generous with their knowledge of the area, providing additional guidance about everything from dining to fishing. They were also responsive to requests made during the week and kept the property spic and span. The property is well-equipped and in great shape - lots of amenities. Its nice to arrive at a property that already has the basics needed without a trip to the store for t-p, dish soap, or garbage bags! The views from the house are terrific - we enjoyed a spectacular display of lightning from distant storms as well as the moonlit bay. Other residents/visitors at the resort were also friendly, adding to the appeal of the location. Can't really speak to the rest of the resort because although we bought the passes for use of the pools and other resort access areas, we wound up spending just about all of our time on the water fishing, crabbing, boating, tubing, etc. The area is fantastic for all of those activities. The location is more remote than what we are used to, with fairly long drives to the grocery store (20 min) and other attractions (30 min to Chincoteague). But this is also part of the attractiveness. Overall, no complaints and lots of great memories.
We had a great time! The house was very comfortable and beautiful and what a view! The Captains Cove community has lots to offer (pool, restaurant, etc) and Chincoteague is close enough to get to easily. By our first day my family was already starting to talk about coming back next year. John was very easy and nice to work with, no complaints!
I will mention that the guest pass for the pool is $4/person.
Thank you again John, it was awesome!
The view from this beautiful home is excellent. We spent four nights in this spacious, exceptionally equipped vacation home. We were able to crab right on the pier, watch the sunset on the deck and stroll around the neighborhood. We will definitely be back to enjoy this vacation gem!
My family of five (wife, two daughters, dog, and I) spent a very memorable Easter weekend on this beautiful property. It's simply unbeatable waterfront location is complimented by a spacious layout, comfortable beds, and all of the accommodations you need. During the day we enjoyed fishing, spending time on the deck overlooking Chincoteague Bay, swimming in the pool (about 3 mins away) and visiting Chincoteague Island (about 15 min away). Evenings were spent relaxing by the fireplace. The owner is responsive and shared information about the house and surrounding area before we arrived, which helped us feel right at home. I'm telling you, you will not be disappointed. We were so very pleased with this vacation and would love to visit again!
We were completely disappointed with this rental. My husband and I were taking my mother away for her 70th birthday and all I can say is that this was one disappointment after another. Upon arrival the central ac unit was broken on the lower level, which John had failed to inform us about ahead of time! The owner's solution was to put a small 5000 btu window ac unit in the living room (the home has cathedral ceilings), turn down the upstairs ac unit to a low temperature and my entire family to sleep upstairs (me, my husband, two children and two parents). After numerous complaints and phone calls that day, John reassured me someone was coming to fix the unit Monday. My parents, both heart patients, left the following day because they could not withstand the hot conditions. Well Monday came and went no central air repair. His cousin showed up with another 5000 btu window ac unit the next day. The entire week the central ac unit was not repaired! The second problem was that I believe the cleaning fee is a scam. This house was superficially cleaned. The couch was filthy full of crumbs, the non leather furniture was full of pet hair. My husband and I were vacuuming until midnight! We found two year old receipts under the bedroom dressers. Third, we found a roach! Fourth, the mosquitoes were awful. They would swarm at you in to the house! Not that John has any control over nature but the area should really be sprayed with some sort of insecticide for control! The only thing this house has going for it is the view and its location on the water that's why I gave it 1 star. Finally I practically had to beg John for my security deposit back. It took over 3 weeks for him to give it back to me! Never again will we go back to this place nor recommend it to anyone!
PS-I have emails, texts and photos documenting this!
