This place is only about a block away from one of the main streets in town in Saugatuck, but it does feel totally secluded because of its location up on a hill and surrounded by a wooded area. We had two families staying there and it was nice that all the kids (cousins) could be in the upper level rooms together, with the 4 twin beds and the futon. The pool and outdoor area were awesome and we used them almost every day we were there. The property was fairly clean when we arrived, but a few things had been overlooked, like the kitchen table was completely sticky and crusted with food and had to be wiped down. The king bed in the main-level master was very comfortable, but the queen bed in the basement room was hard and poor quality. All in all, we had a great time and loved the house itself. I love historic homes, and the architecture of this house is such a great example of Craftsman/Arts & Crafts style. There were plenty of different rooms for everyone to hang out in, and to have some space to themselves during the week, which is important when you have nine people together (plus my parents who stayed in a bed-and-breakfast cottage a block away). The dining room, the living room, the sunroom (TV room), enclosed back porch, and the office (which the kids used as a playroom) all worked very well for our needs. We enjoyed walking to the Village Puppeteers show on Saturday at noon, a Saugatuck brewery tour, also on Saturday, and of course to the coffee shop (Uncommon Grounds) most days as well as Kilwin's for ice cream. We visited Salt of the Earth restaurant in Fennville, where we had been twice before. In my opinion it is still the best restaurant in the area. We are foodies from Indianapolis so we're a bit picky. Some in our group also went on a Star of Saugatuck boat tour and enjoyed it very much. Also, this trip we discovered Nature's Market in Holland (about a 10 minute drive), and I was so ecstatic to find it. It's probably the closest thing to Whole Foods anywhere around and light years beyond the trashy Supervalu in Douglas. I would highly recommend it.
Stayed here with my family that included 6 adults and 2 babies. The location is great, we were able to walk to town every day and enjoy all the fun in downtown Saugatuck. The house is beautiful and the heated pool was a big plus since the weather was a little cool the week we stayed. Even though we were very close to downtown it feels very private. We would stay here again and recommend it to groups and families.
