Why Southwest Vacation Rentals, Inc. chose Mid Island

Fort Myers Beach has the most beautiful beaches. The white sugar sand makes a day on the beach special. The wonderful warm temps make a welcome escape from the midwest winters.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our family loved this house so much we immediately booked it for the next year. The location and beach access is outstanding. The property was clean and very nicely stocked with the basics. Can't wait to go back!

Great stay, even with Hurricane after effects.

  • 5 of 5

My wife & I planned this trip many months in advance as our first empty-nester vacation. We knew that our September week was in the heart of hurricane season but really, what were the chances? Sunday before our arrival, Hello Irma! We reached out to Charles early and learned there was no power on the island, stores and restaurants were closed, and there was no cable. We didn't care about the latter but everything else was fairly important. Although he offered us a full refund, we wanted to keep an eye on recovery. By Wednesday the island had limited power and things were looking up. Still, Charles kept the option open. On Friday we committed and made our 14 hour trek. Upon Saturday arrival, the Bungalow was in great shape, nearly half the restaurants were serving, and the Publix was restocking. Still no cable, but you don't go to FMB for TV. The beach was the only notable drawback but that had more to do with the Hurricane and the overzealous environmentalists who wouldn't let the local authorities rake the damaged beach. They simply left piles of debris to deteriorate, causing a bad stench, and to wash out to sea. My wife and I did our share of picking trash out of the washed up vegetation and as each day passed the water quality improved. Despite all the challenges, we had a great time and throughly enjoyed the Beach Bungalow. We will be back to see the beach and gulf in its pristine state. The 5 stars are for Charles and the Bungalow; the environmentalists, not so much.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the amazing review given the fact that you came to the island less than a week after a major hurricane. You guys really have an adventurous spirit and an awesome ability to enjoy yourselves no matter what. It was awesome to get to know you a little and with things finally back to normal, I look forward to you coming back soon.

Location, Location, Location!

  • 5 of 5

My three sisters and I recently stayed at this wonderful beach house for our annual sister get-away! We are all clean freaks and I must say this was the second thing we noticed, (the clean house), the view of the beach from the porch was of course the first thing we noticed! The kitchen was well equipped, except for hand towels, and I only mention this because of the prompt attention we had from Charles providing some to us the same day I emailed him. The pictures do not do the house justice! There is a newer wooden table with six chairs which recline on the porch. We ate all our meals on the porch while people and dolphin watching. We absolutely loved having our coffee out there early mornings. There are electric hurricane shutters on all the porch windows, as well as the entrance way of the porch. As four women staying alone we loved the added security of putting down the entrance way shutters every night! We saw dolphins and turtle nests everyway! I even saw a small stingray! We shelled on both FMB and Sanibel and we loved FMB the best! Rental was easy all the way around, from arrival and getting the keys to packing up and leaving, which of course we did not want to do! The internet was fast, we watched movies some nights and other we just had cocktails on the porch. There are two beds with harder mattresses and one (king) which is a little softer so you had your choice depending on your desired firmness. We can not wait to return again and would recommend this rental to all! The only suggestions I would have would be for an outside shower so you could easily rinse off the sand. There is a hose outside under the front of the house and we did use this every day to rinse the sand but a shower would be nice. The other suggestion is to rough up the cement near the back of the beach house a little, from using the hose to rinse off we got the cement wet and it became very slippery, I actually fell walking to the stairs from the back of the house. The cement is very smooth there. A shower located where the hose is, I think would take care of this issue too, as the hose is near the front of the house and the slippery cement near the back of the house and I do not think would get wet when rinsing. All very minor issues, and certainly did not impede our fun and relaxation, we just made sure to use the steps near the front after rinsing off the sand! I definitely will be returning again, with my husband this time, he would absolutely love the location

We just enjoyed a wonderful week, Kayaking, fishing, and just hanging out. There were beautiful sunsets from the deck every night. It's beach house to revisit for sure.

Great fun at the beach!

  • 5 of 5

Felt right at home! All you need to bring are your swim suits and sunblock! With a Publix within a mile of the house you can buy whatever food and drinks you need. Beach chairs and umbrella already available for use at the beach when you roll out of the hammock that is beautifully hanging between two palm trees! Lots of parking space with one shaded parking area. The only inconvenience was that I forgot to bring a power strip for all our electronic chargers so we had all our chargers spread out along the walls. Wifi is plenty fast for movie streaming and the bluray player was convenient with a Redbox available down the street at the Publix.

Perfect house!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house. It is literally directly in the sand, and you have constant easy access to the beach.

The house is not fancy but it has everything you could want or need. The front porch is lovely, and we ate all of our meals out there looking out at the beach and the sunset in the evenings.

The photos don't do the layout justice. The front of the house is an open kitchen, dining area and living room which is quite spacious.

The house is well appointed with a ton of beach chairs, umbrellas, sand toys, extra propane for the grill, soap, shampoo, etc.

I highly recommend this house and the location.
