My name is Ali, I'm from a very close family of six and am the youngest of four children.
Ali purchased this cottage in 1992
I've been very fortunate to grow up on this very same property of 40 beautiful acres, along with 3 siblings. My parents and their parents grew up in this town and wanted us to have the same childhood and close knit town they had growing up. We are centrally located between Fennville, Saugatuck and South Haven and so close to amazing beaches. My parents bought this property, which used to be an old turkey farm, 23 years ago. Since the day they bought it, my dad wanted to build cottages and rent them here... In 2011, we made it happen. We felt this property was the perfect place to build them, being a quick trip to the our great tourist towns but still having the beauty of being out in the country. But don't worry, you're not roughin' it when you stay here! Newly built, cozy, unique, luxury cottages are what we wanted and we feel we have accomplished that. We hope that your family will come here and make wonderful memories, just like our family did.
Nestled perfectly in between trees with a screened in porch where you can sit and truly enjoy peace and quiet. If the weather isn't cooperating, you can stay inside, play games with your loved ones or sit on the couch and enjoy a 55' Smart TV with DirecTv.
Wow, where do I start? What a great cottage! Very interesting salvaged architectural pieces surrounded by sturdy construction. Farmhouse charm with all of the modern amenities. Free wifi? Check. Large flatscreen TV's? Check. Modern kitchen, stocked with cooking gear? Check. This place has everything that you'd expect, and then some, and it all worked perfectly. It was immaculate when we checked in. And, Jim and Ali could not have been nicer, or more helpful. For example, we wanted to grill one night, but the bbq's were stored for the winter. With just a request to Jim, they rolled a fine gas grill right to our door right away. These folks aim to please, and they sure do.
Speaking of winter, the three sided gas fireplace warms the cottage quickly, efficiently and with style (although the cottage also has a furnace for more conventional heating, of course).
With easy access to the lake, Saugatuck, and South Haven, this is the place to be for that perfect mix of go-go-go days and restful nights. We could not have been more pleased with our stay. And we plan to be back.
Have you ever gotten back from vacation and were so exhausted that you needed another vacation? Yeah, us too! But, not this time. Our recent vacation to Michigan led us to a little yellow cottage in the woods at Dollybrook Resort. Perfectly situated between South Haven and Saugatuck, we got to enjoy the best of both charming towns and come back to our home-away-from-home each night to the most quaint, yet state-of-the-art, vacation home ever.
My youngest son loved the great room, wifi, and stereo that also charged his iPhone. My oldest son got a kick out of the TV's feature that placed his cell phone screen on the big screen and taking his 'selfie' from the balcony of the master bedroom.
My husband enjoyed the property the most. He walked around the lake to discover many frogs and turtles and took advantage of the fire pit. Dollybrook's attention to detail in this regard was a-mazing! Each day they provided a stack of firewood along with matches and fire starter awaiting a campfire. It's surrounded by Adirondack chairs and picnic tables, but also two storage bins which included lawn chairs, horseshoes, and cornhole games! They thought of everything!
Although I loved downtown Saugatuck and also South Beach and the Ki-Haven Trail in South Haven, my favorite part of the vacation was our little yellow cottage! I honestly could live there full-time. It was fully stocked with everything you could need...just add food and family! The decor is architectural, yet vintage at the same time. Simply charming! They even had kid-friendly, silly-shaped ice cubes and a bag of ice waiting for us in the freezer! Bright sunshine fills all the rooms through beautiful windows along with a lovely view of the pool. We gladly took advantage of that as well and returned to hang our towels on an expandable clothesline inside our sun porch. Seriously, they thought of everything.
I must admit, at first I was concerned that the cottage didn't include a washer and dryer, but at the end of the vacation I was thankful for that. Who wants to spend their vacation doing laundry? Not me! Now the only thing I'm concerned about is you reading this review simply because this lovely cottage is likely to get booked up fast! Save a week for the Brown Family, Ali, because we are definitely coming back!
We have young kids and need a property that has separate bedrooms and a place to cook and room to spread out and relax when we travel. Not an easy task to find! We found Dollybrook, chatted with Ali about what we were after and headed out. We were met with nothing short of a new family. We were beyond welcomed, the property is stunningly gorgeous, the houses are meticulous and stocked with everything you need, and the location can't be better. Not only did we return within the season, but we are planning our return trips for this year as well! Cannot recommend more!
