The Perfect Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I work hard, in a very public job, so when I go on vacation I want to get away and relax.

This 1920's artist cabin was perfect for that.

From the moment I walked into that open living room with its wall of windows looking out over a well-tended garden of wild flowers, I knew I'd found the right place.

The cabin is beautiful: renovated by master craftsmen. The doors fit perfectly into their frames, and latch with a satisfying click. The beds are comfortable and made up with high thread-count sheets. The polished hardwood floors and stairs feel solid under your feet.

Everything works.

But it's the porches, the fire circle, the hike through the woods that make you make you glad you came to the mountains. It's sitting on the deck afterward, sipping a glass of good red wine, that makes you want to stay.

I've been reluctant to write this review, because I knew if I said what I really felt everyone would want to rent this cabin and it wouldn't be available next year. But I'm trying to be generous. Chris and Alison are wonderful and I want them to have all the renters they can handle.

Just save me that last week in July.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the cabin the first week of July, at the recommendation of our children who had loved their stay last summer. We were as pleased as they were - the house is lovely, in a quiet area, lots of birds to enjoy as we sat on the back porch eating our breakfast. We spent our week mostly hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains so this was a perfect springboard for those days, and nice to come home to at night and eat a supper in their very well stocked kitchen and then relax in their living room watching a movie or reading. There are lots of porches to choose from when you want to be outside, and the garden is gorgeous. We also enjoyed visits to Black Mountain, Hendersonville (to see Carl Sandburg's beautiful home, goats, and trails), Asheville, and lots and lots of forays up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway which we never tired of. This is a great house for a family or anyone wanting to explore the riches of this area but also wanting a great place to unwind at the end of the day.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough good things about this home. Our family had a wonderful time, and we felt right at home! The porches and scenery are beautiful, and the walk over the creek and up to the fire pit where our family gathered every evening/night was so relaxing. There was enough space that the kids (and we have four) ran around having a blast, and were able to run and play. The house is decorated with a diverse array of art work; not the cliche art that a lot of rentals have. We are already planning to come back next year and stay even longer. Also, the location is great. Not too far from downtown Asheville, and not too far from some beautiful hiking. We loved it! Thank you for sharing your beautiful hime, where we felt at home--and not like guests. It was everything we wanted. : )

Peaceful cabin retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic weekend at this property! The house was beautiful and very comfortable for our group of 4 adult + 3 children. The kids enjoyed exploring the yard and the woods and the adults enjoyed relaxing on the deck. The location was also convenient to activities in Asheville. Would highly recommend this home and would love to stay here again in the future!

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 days in this beautifully updated cabin. There was everything we could have possibly needed including a well stocked kitchen, plenty of pillows and blankets, wood for campfires, games, etc., etc. There were five of us in the house for most of the time including our 1 year old granddaughter. The place was easy to baby proof (hope we got things mainly back where they started), and she had plenty of room to roam. The cabin is about a 20 minute drive from Asheville or Black Mountain both of which offer a plethora of dining and shopping choices. As a place to cool off, our little one loved the splash pad in downtown Black Mountain. The owners are very responsive to any questions. We would certainly recommend this rental.

Wonderful artistic cabin and cute yurt with a location close to Asheville (10 miles to downtown) and Black Mountain (6 miles). Very peaceful yet easy access to all the area has to offer. The annual Swannanoa Gathering is rich in local culture and music. Also located in Swannanoa and voted the 'Greenest College in U.S.', Warren Wilson College offers an organic farmers market during the spring, summer and fall months as well as wonderful trails to explore. Nearby attractions include the Blue Ridge Parkway where The Folk Art Center is located, hiking, biking, whitewater rafting, the Historic Biltmore Hotel where a drink at 5:00 in the lobby cannot be beat to experience the grandeur of architecture and incredible views. A wide range of very high quality restaurants in the area range from Vegan to BBQ. Also don't forget to enjoy the abundance of nature right outside the cabin door while you reconnect with family and friends, and take life at a slower pace. Whatever your plans, our cabin will make you feel like you have come home!
