The Swan house looks like it might be the perfect vacation house, atmospheric, close to down, decorated nicely. The homeowner comes off very nice and fair. Cut to a week before our arrival, we receive an email of HOUSE RULES, apparently we are responsible for washing all the sheets and towels before checkout on Sunday at 10AM, no time to argue that since a 30 day cancellation is necessary or a forfeit of payment. Never have I been inconvenienced to do that sort of thing when I am paying premium dollar for a rental. During the stay, we were a party of 4 plus my 1.5 year old son. The 2 bedrooms upstairs accommodated my husband and I and his parents. It was hard to sleep in past sunrise, 5AM. The lack of high quality shades, and fact that some were broken did not keep any of the sunlight out. To add, a street lamp shined right into my in laws room, making it hard for them to even go to sleep. The emergency light that never turns off in the main hallway did not help matters either. Before we arrived we were told that the freezer wasn't working and that the repair man would have to come during our stay. I was eventually told he was to come during my son's nap. I asked if he could come the next day. The freezer man came the next day, which was the day before our stay ended. Downstairs there are two bedrooms that are very damp and musty, hesitantly I had my son sleep down there in the pack and play we brought. Only two out of the four rooms during our stay were used. At the end of our stay we were charged extra for additional cleaning fees and told that the cleaning lady had to spend extra time cleaning because the house was dirty, I'm not sure what she actually cleaned since we stripped the beds, put them in the wash and brought all the towels downstairs. the homeowner also complained that the house smelled like bacon when we left and that she had to use fabrezze for the next homeowner. That is a very odd complaint and one that i have never heard before, was she insinuating that we shouldn't have used the kitchen? Maybe she should've written in her house rules that the kitchen was off limits the morning of checkout.
If these items are taken care, and if the homeowner takes notes from other rentals on Island, this house has some real potential for an enjoyable stay.
Great home! Very clean well decorated yet comfortable and cozy beaches chairs beach towels wine glasses well stocked with things you need
Fantastic location quite street just a few blocks from Main Street steps from great restaurants and only a short walk to the beach
Owner is very knowledgeable and helpful
I would highly recommend this property and plan to return
My wife and two children just returned from this lovely house in Nantucket. We had a fabulous vacation. This house is location, location, location and very nice as well. If you are looking for an "in-town" alternative, this house can't be beat for its location (just one block over from all of the action in town). It is also nice outfitted and equipped and beautifully renovated inside. Mary Parker, owner, was also as easy as possible to deal with and very nice as well. One quick example... she sent my kids an incredibly thoughtful gift certificate to The Juice Bar (the best ice cream place on the planet) midway through our stay... very thoughtful. Bottom line: wonderful house in as prime a location as possible.
I stayed here last May and had such a wonderful time. You can not beat the location of this house. Walking distance to all the cutest shops and restaurants. Even walking distance from the ferry so no cars or cabs necessary. House is perfect size and was spotless for our arrival. Although the weather was not the best that weekend the outdoor space was perfect to just sit and relax.
Owner is very sweet and considerate and gave many suggestions on how to make the stay even better. Also she was very fair in giving back our security deposit in a timely manner. Highly recommend this house!
Well-loved and renovated Swan House was a wonderful rental for our family of 6 during our week on Nantucket. Beautifully renovated main floor has a clean, tasteful kitchen with all the modern conveniences and opens onto a bright, light-filled sitting room. Very unique to be up high for the main floor, yet only a few steps up from the street. Very quiet . Bedrooms are all well-kept and cozy in true Nantucket style, the cushioned chaise in one upstairs bedroom became a great toddler bed for our 3-year-old! Downstairs bedrooms are perfectly suited to children, with a clean, white-tiled shared bath. Washer/dryer conveniently placed on lower level made drying our beach towels and bathing suits everyday a breeze! Location is terrific for walking into town for dinner or to shops, also perfect when walking East, heading away from town for beach breezes and spacious neighborhoods to wander. Swan House is close to everything you could need on a Nantucket vacation, although we did drive to Surfside and Miacomet beaches as we usually spent the entire day and bring so much stuff! Our minivan fit fine in the single parking space and we were grateful for the off-street parking! I would recommend this home to anyone looking to be right in town on a Nantucket vacation. Mary, the owner, went out of her way to help us and to be sure the house had everything we needed. A lovely week in a very special place!
We've stayed in the town of Nantucket many times and this location really can't be beat. You are just steps away from all that is happening in town and yet the street is quiet. We had three generations staying together in the house, and one family member couldn't walk long distances so that was very important to us. Our kids could walk to the juice bar by themselves for dessert which they thought was so cool. The kitchen and main level are really beautifully renovated. We cooked several nice meals during our stay. There are two nantucket themed king bedrooms upstairs which is where the adults slept. The bathrooms on the upper floor have not yet been renovated and are basic but clean. Our kids slept together in one of the basement bedrooms. They liked having a big tv in their room. We enjoyed many breakfasts and dinners out on the patio which has a cute little fish pond. And our mid-sized suv fit in the parking space just fine. We found the owner to be very warm and responsive.
