About Mary Parker

After owning and running an inn on Nantucket for over twenty years, I converted one of the properties into this premier-location, four bedroom house in 2011. The result is a cozy post and beam, with a modern kitchen and family-friendly layout. I was also the editor and publisher of Nantucket Magazine from 1987-1993. I sold the magazine, which had a twenty year publication, when I started my family. Recently, I have taken up beekeeping and spent two consecutive Summers in Eastern Europe on a small apiary farm. My love of the ocean has kept me anchored on Nantucket for over 30 years, when I'm not taking time off to travel the rest of the world.

Mary Parker purchased this house in 2005

Why Mary Parker chose Nantucket

As many of my reviews state, my house has a great location!! Ash Lane is one street over from the the Core District and therefore a one to five minute walk to everything in the Downtown. It is a five minute walk from the Steamship Authority ferry.

What makes this house unique

In theory, you'll never be late for any in-Town dinner reservations. They are all within walking distance.

Great House, Great Location, Great Week!

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our week! The perfect in-town location was super convenient. Very easy to go out for morning coffee, walk to the grocery store, or head out for dinner. The house set up is very nice for couples, with the two large king rooms with en suite full baths and the downstairs queen. The fourth bedroom with twin trundle beds is best suited for children. Having A/C was very nice as the week was unseasonably warm. Would definitely rent again.

Ideal location! Not even a minute's walk to town, but on a quiet street!

  • 5 of 5

The Swan House was perfect for our week-long stay in Nantucket! The location is ideal, just steps away from the downtown area, but yet on a quiet street. The house was spacious enough for our family and guests, and everything was immaculate upon arrival. The owner was very responsive to our inquiries prior to our trip and even took the extra step of renting a crib through Nantucket Baby for us, which was set up and ready when we arrived. The outdoor patio and dining area was wonderful for relaxing and enjoying our meals. The only technicality we wanted to mention was the fact that the guests are required to wash and dry all sheets and towels used, which was a bit of a hassle when we were trying to pack and be out the door by 10:00 am. I'm not sure how someone with an early flight or ferry would be able to pull that off without waking up very early. Perhaps a second set of sheets and towels would be a better solution. But that minor inconvenience aside, all in all we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this house to friends and family traveling to Nantucket!

Owner's Response: Dear Donald. I'm glad you enjoyed my rental home. Just to clarify, I don't require that all laundry be done, from my renters. I ask that the beach towels are done the night before and that you start the sheets in the morning. I definitely don't expect all laundry to be finished. Getting the sheets started is the biggest help for us and we do have back up sheet sets as well. Any additional laundry done by my renters is discretionary. Some folk seem to have the time, other understandably don't. Thank you for your review and feedback! Mary

Very nice. Location was good for downtown as well as beach. children'd beach a plus.

The property was well maintained and the kitchen had most every item you'd need. Quiet neighborhood.

Bedrooms were a nice size and we liked the idea of 3.5 baths. Close to visitor center where all kinds of maps are available free of charge. A little Japanese garden is on the property.

Wonderful, relaxing stay on Ash Lane

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Mary's lovely home! From communicating with her beforehand, to our arrival and departure and everything in between we found her to be responsive, accommodating and warm. She even arranged for us to have a crib and baby gate delivered prior to our stay, which allowed us to begin our vacation on such a nice, stress-free note! The house itself is a perfect location--walkable to town, near the beaches, and on a quiet street with parking included. The decor suited our tastes nicely and was comfortable and very clean. We had one slight issue with the AC while we were there and it was addressed immediately and satisfactorily, within hours. Overall we loved our visit and would return in a heartbeat!

Adorable house with a great location

Loved this gem in the center of town. Landlord was so easy to deal with -- she even helped us reserve ferry tickets home. The house had all the amenities and was comfortable and adorable. THANK YOU!

Owner's Response: Dear Marietta, Yes, Christmas Stroll can be a tricky weekend for getting to and from the Island. Though not part of my rental policy, I was more then happy to help you out! Take care, Mary

Perfect Stay at Swan House

  • 5 of 5

My family has been visiting ACK for 16 years now. The kids are young adults now and we all like to be in town. The location is perfect and the place is simply elegant. Summer 2016 was one of our favorite years because Swan House was perfect for everyone's needs. The kitchen was perfect because we like to cook. The yard was lovely for evening relaxing. The space was perfect for 8 of us. Plenty of room and cozy at the same time.
