This one-of-a-kind home features two master suites.
Each suite has approximately 600 square ft. and includes sleeping and sitting areas with satellite TV and VCR/DVD.
The main living area features the fully equipped kitchen, formal dining, informal dining, formal living room and large main entry. All rooms are tastefully decorated with Japanese art.
Inside the home is a private garden with tropical plants and flowers which accent the small waterfall, stream and fish pond.
We feature a private pool with a large deck plus covered lanai for BBQ and relaxing. The home is 3000 square ft and is on one fully landscaped acre.

My wife and I purchased our home in Hawaii in 2000. We are pleased to offer this unique Japanese living experience to you when we are away.
The Owner purchased this house in 2000
We looked for several years for a home on the Big Island that we would enjoy living in. The unique Japanese design, quality of construction, open living areas, ocean view, private and peaceful setting made this home an easy choice for us.
This is where my wife and I go to get away from it all. It is easy to forget the normal pressures of everyday life in this private and peaceful setting-our Sanctuary in Paradise!
We own the lot across the street from our house. The lot was hand cleared to preserve the natural flow of the lava. Our landscapers have planted many native plants. Guests are welcome to take a walk on the 1 acre lot.
We enjoyed exploring this side of Hawaii and the house was a good home base. We were looking for some restful quiet time and this place was great for that.To be fair to other travellers considering this property I will add some comments to consider. The home is very spacious and you can find whatever you need for your home stay but everything is very well used and worn with some appliances on their last leg. The interior is dated and could use a deep clean or renewal. If you want to watch TV on rainy evenings there are no comfortable chairs to sit on. The door screens no longer fit snugly so we had a bug battle each evening swatting then vacuuming the fallen corpses. The pool was a welcome feature to cool off on muggy hot afternoons. The king bed was comfortable for sleeping. I understand maintenance can be a difficult challenge for owners in Hawaii's climate.
How can I express the wonderful experience? This home is centrally located on the East side of the Island. Very clean and decorated tastefully. My husband and I as well as our daughter and son-in-law. enjoyed every minute of our stay. The pool was nice, even though we didn't spend much time in it.....too busy site seeing. We are in love with the Hilo area, people are super friendly and laid back.
Only down side: this great home is very hard to find after dark! Trash disposal was another hitch but we found the "transfer station" the second day. Rachel had good directions to it. Overall, We loved this home and hope to return. I would highly recommend this great home to my friends and family. When you stay here, be sure and take in the Farmers Market, Hilo Bay Café and believe it or not: the local I-Hop has a great breakfast menu.
Very comfortable home with great layout. it was the perfect home base for our time in Hilo. Would definitely stay again when next in Hilo.
This is by far our favorite accommodation ever. This house was built with every detail in place, but with an eye for comfort and for peace. As soon as you enter the inner court, the stress is left behind and deep sense of serenity overtakes you. Then a sense of adventure leads you to every room, nook and cranny. There are many rooms in this house, outdoor and indoor: dining room, living room, sitting room, lanai/terrace, family room, bedrooms in far corners, bath houses and Japanese Ofuro (deep bath), a small devotional room as well and a wrap around lanai that takes you around it all inside and outside the compound. The inner court has a pond and a Japanese garden with fish, an occasional white cat passing by rather quickly and a mother hen with her babies strolling through (if you are into Miyazaki Movies, you will find yourself in his world). There are different points from the lanai where you can sit which offer different views points to the garden. There are also so many varieties of plants, it is like a botanical garden. I would highly recommend a guide book. There is one in the house, it is huge but doesn't cover all the plants found here.
The Western style beds and furniture are highly comfortable and I would think on the luxury end of the line, the kitchen offers everything you need and is low maintenance. It was super clean and the owner was very accommodating and pleasant. The surrounding is beautiful and close to amenities. We have kids and we had a talk about keeping everything in the proper spirit of the place: they loved the place and were impressed. They played in the pool and went on discoveries and found 100+ treasures. Some spent hours drawing and writing.
We have worked overseas for 15 years and have been in all kinds of buildings, 5 stars to 1 star, Western World to Third World countries and this is by far the most amazing and wonderful building we've ever been to. It is extremely hard to leave.
This place would especially suit people with a high amount of stress, those bereaved or those who would want a new start in life or who would want to decompress from their stressful routine.
We arrived to find an amazing home. The property is beautiful. More beautiful in person. The home is well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Very, very clean and very well cared for. The wonderful lady that was taking care of the plants at the lot across the street gave us fresh pineapple. The pool is a plus to have at the property. We enjoyed the bikes and walks to the cliffs over looking the ocean. We would recommend this home as a top pick for everyone. We loved how the rooms are very private and plenty of space for 2 families. We look forward to staying at this paradise home again.
The home was beautiful, clean and well kept. Makes you not want to touch anything:) Just a 5-10 minute walk to the ocean. It provided everything you need in the kitchen and bedrooms. I would definitely recommend it. And I would definitely rent it again. Roger, the manager next door, was friendly and helpful as well. I truly enjoyed my stay.
Our home is close to the Pacific Ocean, water falls, lava flows, hot water pool heated by volcano, and great dining. Some of the above checked activities are available on the Hilo side of the Big Island.
