Charming but a few things you should know
The house has its charm on the inside it's clean and well equipped with a lovely kitchen / living room, and comfy beds. The property out back is expansive and nice for a short hike which we enjoyed. The house is also very close to all MA Berkshires charm and we enjoyed Lenox and the local ski areas. However, there are a few things you should know before you rent....
1. The street of this house isn't the best- houses closer together - the outdoor picture is deceiving. There is a shanty like property very close by. We were worried when driving up that this was where we were staying across the street from.
2. The house in winter is very very cold. The thermostat was set to 60 when we got there - the owner mentioned space heaters and there were some. I wore several layers the whole stay - felt chills on the inside of my clothes- and there is a charming stove/fireplace in the middle of the living area that isn't useable in winter!? (again, stove was in the house rental picture)
3. The garbage issue - no mention of this at all until we arrived. We have to cart out all of our garbage. Apparently, owner does not pay for trash removal. There is no mention of where to bring said trash but I received several mentions from owner (after we arrived) that we were responsible for trash removal. I don't know about you but looking for a dumpster during my vacation isn't' my idea of fun. I had a text exchange with owner that got me info on local dumpsters - owner, why not in manual? Why not forthcoming?
4. Most important mention. Rate was listed - I did a buy it now credit card deposit via VRBO - then an email from the owner saying their rate was raised and it wasn't reflected on the website. I wound up paying an extra several hundred dollars for this rental than initially thought. I sucked it up - vacation after all but telling, very telling for future experiences. I'll never agree to rate increase again.
Hey owner- you have a great house - please be more forthcoming in your dealings with renters. I've been renting homes for over 15 years and this has been my least sincere experience holistically in dealing with property owner. I now will trust owners less because of my experience with you and ask 10x more questions of future rentals. Please take this as constructive advice and be more open with your renters.
I always appreciate constructive feedback and this was totally my mistake, I realized only after reading your publicized complaints that I sent an older version of the house manual as a courtesy attachment by email, which errantly stated that the stove was not working. It was- in full working order- as indicated by the stacked wood adjacent to the stove- and for the inconvenience, I have refunded your 2nd payment and sincerely apologize.
You may remember that we discussed at the time of your inquiry email, I had long-term guests- an elderly couple from a neighboring town- stay through January, while their home was being rebuilt after having been destroyed by a fire. As I explained to you at the time, I was remiss in updating rates to reflect holiday pricing. When I saw your request I realized my mistake and let you know immediately that there would be a small price increase. I gave you the option to cancel but you instead preferred to stay with us and agreed to the increase, which I have subsequently refunded to you.
Our home is on 6 acres of land. It is true you can see other houses in winter when the trees are bare, but in Spring, Summer and Fall, when trees are in full bloom, cannot be seen from my home at all. I have never once described our property as secluded.
It is also true, amongst the well cared for properties on our road there is one neighbor about a 1/4 mile down the way who lives with his wife, chickens, cats and a goat in a “shanty” looking home full of BBQ’s and lawn furniture. He is a kind-hearted, well-known country character and completely harmless. I’m sorry you felt threatened by his living conditions.
It is explained very clearly in the House Manual that there is no garbage pick-up in this little township. My guests and I all must carry out our garbage. If you were to look in the House Manuals of all of my neighbors who also rent their homes, you will find the same request - please take your garbage with you.
I am not in the business of swindling or misleading people.
For over 10 years I have prided myself on being available to my guests.
Please see my reviews on this and other home rental sites as evidence of this.
Had you asked about the stove at check in or how one might better heat the home, I could have made your stay a more comfortable and pleasant one which is always my goal.
Again, very sorry for the inconvenience.
Lovely farmhouse, well appointed, comFortable, not overdone.
We had good ccommunication with the owner the entire time. The house was comfortable with all the basics needed for a week’s stay. Lots of opportunities in the area including Queechy Lake, and art throughout the New York area and in Massachusetts.
So glad you enjoyed your stay at our place and had a chance to enjoy the surrounding area Barbara ! Please come see us again soon...
All the best,
Quiet oasis in Berkshires.
Lovely, quiet, and comfortable.
We had a wonderful stay with our two children (one of them a teenager). We were hoping to be skiing but the weather was too warm. Luckily our accommodations made it worth the getaway. Each of us had a cozy corner to call our own in the house to relax. We also enjoyed the owner's recommendations to explore nearby places, as well as to make ourselves at home.
Well stocked, attractive farm house
Adam Green's farmhouse has plenty of comfortable charm but all the modern conveniences: new bathrooms, well appointed kitchen area and room to spread out on a rustic dining room table. Adam's helpful hints about area restaurants and attractions are much appreciated, as are the flowers on the front porch and Adirondack chairs out back. The unpretentious but well decorated and inviting rooms, made this rental seem like home.
Thanks for taking such good care of our place! Hope you had a wonderful stay and you're welcome back anytime!
