Pelicans' Nest - Heaven's a Little Closer in a House by the Sea

Bedrooms 4
Space 1,843 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Pelicans' Nest is a beautiful four bedroom, two bath, ranch-style home with a pelican’s eye view of the ocean. It sits on a hill, within walking distance of a beautiful coved beach. The ocean view can be seen from several of the redwood-paneled rooms throughout the home, as well as from the deck that extends across the back of the home. The hot tub that sits on the deck, just off of the master bedroom, seats 4-6 people. Skylights throughout the home bring in the sunlight.

The home easily sleeps eight, but can sleep more with a bit of creativity! The den doubles as a fourth bedroom - has a full-size futon along with an easy chair and 27 inch TV and DVD/VCR unit - it is perfect for the kids. Dogs are welcome, too! A large fenced-in side yard keeps them safe, with plenty of area to explore. The house sits on three-quarter (¾) of an acre, the front, side, and back yards landscaped with a natural feel. There is even a large area for parking.

This home is such a great place to get away from it all! Picture yourself sitting on the deck enjoying the view of the ocean, or later on, a spectacular view of the stars. If you get a bit chilly, light a fire in the stunning stone fireplace in the living room. The fully-equipped kitchen with a large countertop/bar separating it from the dining room makes the area a perfect setting for small parties.

What makes this house unique

This home has beach access within walking distance. Is pet friendly with a fenced backyard and is often described as the most well-stocked home ever rented. It's close to town, but definitely has that 'country' feel. Very private ocean view from the house and the hot tub.

Fabulous home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Pelicans' Nest is the most fully equipped vacation home we've ever stayed in. This is a dream home to take your vacation in -- secret is out! Ideally situated on the "Banana Belt" in Gualala, we watched choppy seas and the fog pushed out off shore while we enjoyed wonder sunshine and light breezes. Very pet and family friendly retreat. Home away from home!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your great review! We couldn't agree more. We think we've found the best spot on the whole Mendocino Coast because of our " Banana Belt" climate and beach access. Our visitors can be fogged in all the way up the Coast until they hit Gualala where the sun is shining. Thanks again for taking the time to share your kind thoughts. We will look forward to seeing you again in the very near future. Sincerely, Patty, Pat & Marcie (owners)

Nice house

  • 4 of 5

The house was very nice and had everything that is necessary, but Hwy 1

is a REALLY long and a crazy CURVY drive, especially with two grandchildren who get car sick. There is no way to get to the house from San Francisco without hours of curvy driving. The ocean which you can see but only through some trees (across a couple of roads) is sooooo cold the kids could not play in it. After two days of leaving the house to go see something like Fort Bragg and glass beach and getting car sick along the way, we left a couple of days early and went back to the Saucilito area. We had a great time there and took the ferry into San Fran and visited Muir woods. If you are looking for a place that is "peace and quiet" this house is very nice . I was taking my two grandchildren on their "14 year old trip" and there was not enough activity in the area for them and too much car sickness. I did not do enough research to realize this beach is only for looking and walking unless you wear a wet suit.

Exactly as advertised and all the 5-Star Ratings are spot on!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 enjoyed two wonderful nights squeezed in between Christmas and New Years. The home fit our needs perfectly, providing separation in sleeping areas but great common areas in the kitchen, dining, and fireplace areas.

The Gualala location is central to our day trips to Sea Ranch public access trails as well as up to the Point Arena wharf (and Bowling Ball Beach along the way). We are familiar with this area having done everything from car camping, camping at Salt Point, staying many times at Sea Ranch, etc. and with many points of comparison , Pelican's Nest as a property and location more than holds its own.

But more than just the property, working and communicating with Marcie made this rental a seamless and enjoyable experience.

Many thanks!

Wonderful home and area!

  • 5 of 5

We had 5 memorable nights at the Pelican's Nest! The home was spacious and comfortable for our family of 8 (grown children and spouses). The nearby beach cove was beautiful and a close walk. We brought 3 vehicles and a trailer full of kayaks and there was plenty of parking room. We spent one day kayaking on the nearby river and another on the Russian River. We enjoyed the jacuzzi on the cool nights! A great time was had by all!

Our first visit to Pelicans' Nest won't be our last...

  • 5 of 5

After regularly staying at the same Sea Ranch vacation rental for the past 10 years, my wife and I decided to take a chance on something a little different. Any apprehension that we had in doing so disappeared the second that we entered the wonderful and welcoming Pelicans' Nest. Its unassuming yet inviting exterior hides an expansive and enchanting interior. An impressive lodge-like rock wall anchors the spacious and super comfortable living room, and holds a huge fireplace with the most adorable andirons ever. It's connected to the wide open and well-appointed kitchen by a dining area with a table large enough to enjoy a meal, a board game, and a puzzle...all at the same time. Each of its four bedrooms have their own cozy vibe, and the master boasts a roomy en suite bathroom area and convenient sliding door access to the top notch hot tub just outside. The long wall of picture windows along the back of the house provide beautiful views of the very private tree and foliage-lined backyard, and glimpses of the rocky coast and ocean in the distance. The wrap-around deck allows access to the fenced backyard and the fenced side yard, both of which are big enough to give a dog – or in our case, a cat who thinks it's a dog – plenty of room to stretch their legs without you having to worry about them running off. (That goes double for kids, we'd assume.) Though conveniently located just a few minutes north of "downtown" Gualala, it felt nicely secluded, especially with hiking and beach access trails just a short walk or drive away. We had a fantastic and relaxing time at Pelicans' Nest, and our only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer. Thank you, Marcie, for your warm and responsive correspondence – you made a couple of new renters feel like returning guests.

Another perfect vacation at Pelican's Nest

  • 5 of 5

We have now made 4 visits to Pelican's Nest and I felt compelled to leave another (glowing) review. As has been mentioned again and again, between the perfect location and the well-appointed home it's hard to imagine a better place to take refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city. Gualala offers everything you need to stock the larder or even a casual meal out if you like. And there's all the other beauty of the north coast at your disposal in a central location

But beyond the surroundings it's good to know that Marcie and Patty are such warm and concerned hosts who are genuinely interested in your comfort and well-being during your stay. Each time we return we feel as if we're being welcomed home after a long journey away. Even when there is the odd maintenance issue it has been swiftly addressed - Patty and Marcie are responsive and available, making certain that your stay remains "perfect".

Finding a pet-friendly place as nice as Pelican's would be a huge challenge. Not only has our four-legged kid been welcomed but the proximity to the beach and even the quiet neighborhood give you plenty of options to help "fido" get his exercise.

The only bad thing about Pelican's Nest is having to leave ... but we always know we'll be back. We've found our perfect slice of paradise by the sea!
