Pelicans' Nest is a beautiful four bedroom, two bath, ranch-style home with a pelican’s eye view of the ocean. It sits on a hill, within walking distance of a beautiful coved beach. The ocean view can be seen from several of the redwood-paneled rooms throughout the home, as well as from the deck that extends across the back of the home. The hot tub that sits on the deck, just off of the master bedroom, seats 4-6 people. Skylights throughout the home bring in the sunlight.
The home easily sleeps eight, but can sleep more with a bit of creativity! The den doubles as a fourth bedroom - has a full-size futon along with an easy chair and 27 inch TV and DVD/VCR unit - it is perfect for the kids. Dogs are welcome, too! A large fenced-in side yard keeps them safe, with plenty of area to explore. The house sits on three-quarter (¾) of an acre, the front, side, and back yards landscaped with a natural feel. There is even a large area for parking.
This home is such a great place to get away from it all! Picture yourself sitting on the deck enjoying the view of the ocean, or later on, a spectacular view of the stars. If you get a bit chilly, light a fire in the stunning stone fireplace in the living room. The fully-equipped kitchen with a large countertop/bar separating it from the dining room makes the area a perfect setting for small parties.

This home has beach access within walking distance. Is pet friendly with a fenced backyard and is often described as the most well-stocked home ever rented. It's close to town, but definitely has that 'country' feel. Very private ocean view from the house and the hot tub.
We had 5 memorable nights at the Pelican's Nest! The home was spacious and comfortable for our family of 8 (grown children and spouses). The nearby beach cove was beautiful and a close walk. We brought 3 vehicles and a trailer full of kayaks and there was plenty of parking room. We spent one day kayaking on the nearby river and another on the Russian River. We enjoyed the jacuzzi on the cool nights! A great time was had by all!
After regularly staying at the same Sea Ranch vacation rental for the past 10 years, my wife and I decided to take a chance on something a little different. Any apprehension that we had in doing so disappeared the second that we entered the wonderful and welcoming Pelicans' Nest. Its unassuming yet inviting exterior hides an expansive and enchanting interior. An impressive lodge-like rock wall anchors the spacious and super comfortable living room, and holds a huge fireplace with the most adorable andirons ever. It's connected to the wide open and well-appointed kitchen by a dining area with a table large enough to enjoy a meal, a board game, and a puzzle...all at the same time. Each of its four bedrooms have their own cozy vibe, and the master boasts a roomy en suite bathroom area and convenient sliding door access to the top notch hot tub just outside. The long wall of picture windows along the back of the house provide beautiful views of the very private tree and foliage-lined backyard, and glimpses of the rocky coast and ocean in the distance. The wrap-around deck allows access to the fenced backyard and the fenced side yard, both of which are big enough to give a dog – or in our case, a cat who thinks it's a dog – plenty of room to stretch their legs without you having to worry about them running off. (That goes double for kids, we'd assume.) Though conveniently located just a few minutes north of "downtown" Gualala, it felt nicely secluded, especially with hiking and beach access trails just a short walk or drive away. We had a fantastic and relaxing time at Pelicans' Nest, and our only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer. Thank you, Marcie, for your warm and responsive correspondence – you made a couple of new renters feel like returning guests.
We have now made 4 visits to Pelican's Nest and I felt compelled to leave another (glowing) review. As has been mentioned again and again, between the perfect location and the well-appointed home it's hard to imagine a better place to take refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city. Gualala offers everything you need to stock the larder or even a casual meal out if you like. And there's all the other beauty of the north coast at your disposal in a central location
But beyond the surroundings it's good to know that Marcie and Patty are such warm and concerned hosts who are genuinely interested in your comfort and well-being during your stay. Each time we return we feel as if we're being welcomed home after a long journey away. Even when there is the odd maintenance issue it has been swiftly addressed - Patty and Marcie are responsive and available, making certain that your stay remains "perfect".
Finding a pet-friendly place as nice as Pelican's would be a huge challenge. Not only has our four-legged kid been welcomed but the proximity to the beach and even the quiet neighborhood give you plenty of options to help "fido" get his exercise.
The only bad thing about Pelican's Nest is having to leave ... but we always know we'll be back. We've found our perfect slice of paradise by the sea!
We didn't just like it - WE LOVED IT!!!
Just speechless! It has been such a long time that we had this heavenly comfortable feeling during our vacation. Marcie, Patty and Pat...God bless all of you sharing your priceless house. We lost our beloved 14 years old pooch this January, then came here with our new rescued 2 years old pooch to start our new chapter. This trip was a very special for our family. Our happiness truly started from this house. Entering from huge clean driveway, saw 49 Yrs flag (I'm huge fan of 49 Yrs since Montana time, so made me smile to see the flag:), then opened up with gorgeous endless ocean view & vast land holdings waiting..an exactly as Marcie described. Everything you need were there and we couldn't think of anything missing. Enjoyed cooking 5 nights and did take out dinner twice (nearby Thailand & Mexican restaurant foods were an excellent). Walked to the Cooks Beach with our pooch everyday even one rainy day. A wonderful beach and we all loved it! Local people were very friendly and our pooch had a good time playing with other pooches there too. Saw four Deer and two of them came to front yard, then saw even Whale one day at near ocean when we were hiking. Went fishing at next town peer, then saw many pelicans flying by. We have been stayed more than 20 VRBO houses so far, but this Pelican's house gave us the most "Home Sweet Home" feeling and gave us positive spirit and an extra energy. This is the house that you always want to go back again and again....PS:As a dog owner - many thanks for your safe & secure fence area for our pooch. She totally enjoyed your huge green rush garden:) Thank you so much for everything and your most comfortable house. We'll be be back again!
First, the owners Patty and Marcie are fantastic in every way. They were very responsive and provided very detailed information and instructions. The place exceeded our expectations in every way. They have everything you could possibly need from pots and pans, spices, towels, cleaning supplies, paper towels, aluminum foil, etc. We were there for Thanksgiving and did not need to bring any of those items to cook. The place was clean and bright. The house is big and comfortable! The back yard space is fantastic and great for dogs. They were in heavan! There is even a view of the ocean. Also the town has grocery stores and restaurants--great location. We just loved our stay and will be back!
If you are looking for a place that has spectacular views, convenient access to a secluded sandy beach, all the comforts of home (and more!) then look no further! Pelican’s Nest provides a roomy and comfortable home in a great location – a short 2 minute drive from Gualala and a pleasant quiet “neighborhood” location up the hill from the coast with expansive ocean views.
If you enjoy sunsets and start-filled nights – you can get it here as you relax on your deck sipping a glass of wine or whirling in the hot tub. Just as others have mentioned the views and location alone make this a perfect costal retreat. This was our second trip to Pelican’s Nest and we’re booking our next one now. Even our dog had a great time!
Having stayed at many of the wonderful places we’ve seen on VRBO we can recommend Pelican’s Nest without hesitation (we will be back – again!) The home is well stocked, all the kichen gear you really need (and more!) lot’s or room, several TV’s, satellite, CD player, DVD, even WiFi if you want stay connected. Plus the owners are very friendly and responsive and clearly take pride in their magnificent home. Marcie and Patty are super nice people and we are really glad we stumbled across this place. We had always stayed in the Mendocino area but now that we’ve discovered Pelican’s Nest we don’t want to stay anywhere else. It doesn’t hurt that it’s even closer to SF.
There’s really not much to add to what everyone else has already said so whether you’ve been to Gualala or not, if you want a great location with easy access to town for shopping (2 supermarkets) and a very relaxing, quiet location a short walk to a great beach – you’ve found it!
