About Jody Landgrebe Owner/Manager

I've lived in the Custer area for 13 years and am a South Dakota native. After living out of state for 18 years, I returned to South Dakota for a more peaceful life.

Jody Landgrebe Owner/Manager purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Jody Landgrebe Owner/Manager chose Black Hills

I vacationed in the Custer area as a child, and returned to it because I've found the Custer area to be the perfect blend of rustic country living, beautiful scenery and friendly people. The town of Custer has all the shopping, restaurants and entertainment that anyone could possibly need without the frenzy of fast food, Walmarts and traffic that frazzle city folks lives.

What makes this cabin unique

I love this cabin's location, near Custer State Park and Wind Cave National park. Just 1.5 mile east is the back entrance to Wind Cave Park at an area where you can generally find herds of Buffalo and Elk. The cabin itself is very private as it is not visible from the road. Near dusk and dawn you can sometimes see elk at the front of the property near the creek area.

Great getaway

  • 4 of 5

Our family really enjoyed this home away from home. Was peaceful and relaxing. Had all the conveniences of home except for cel service and that was a blessing for a getaway. Real family time. Can get to any where in the Black Hills easily. Would definitely recommend it.

It was wonderful!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The property was great and everything was as listed--Jody was accessible and her great directions made it all easy. I was worried reading about the steep part of the driveway, but really it worked fine--just keep going, like she said. Beautiful cabin!!!! Everything we needed for 6 adults and 3 grandkids ages 8-16--didn't feel crowded at all and it was a fantastic get-away-from-it-all, bonding experience. The location was just outside Wind Cave National Park, and we didn't have to drive very far at all to see lots of wildlife. Jody's suggestion to go at twilight was a good one. It's more southern to the Black Hills, but not a bad drive up to Keystone (we did not take the scenic route however) and other places we wanted to go. We got groceries in Custer--make sure you have a good list because it's not so handy to just hop in the car and get a gallon of milk. All the kids spent quite a bit of time on the lower floor playing pool and foosball, playing games (furnished) and reading (lots of books there). Wonderful to just get out and hike through the woods too. The Crazy Horse Memorial just north of Custer was a highlight--if you give money to the Foundation for this very worthy cause, you get a chance to walk out on the arm. Once the arm is finished, you'll never have that opportunity again. We also enjoyed swimming in Hot Springs (Evans Plunge). We would all definitely recommend this property!!!!

Great Place

  • 4 of 5

Perfect spot for our trip with our married kids and grandkids. Private, beautiful views, and well located as far as all attractions of the southern Black Hills.

The teenagers loved the pool and foosball tables and the great deck was perfect for good conversation and adult beverages at the end of the day.

For those wanting an aerobic workout taking the garbage down to the road and walking back up to the house will max out most heart rates.

Cell service was pretty much nonexistent in spite of an AT&T booster on the modem but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Internet was OK.

This is a beautiful house, well located, very private, and located in a spectacular setting. Four stars.

Lovely Log Cabin in Custer!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in Custer. This property was fabulous. It had everything we needed and more. We traveled with 3 couples and needed a property with 3 full baths, and this cabin not only had a bathroom for each bedroom, but it also had a half bath on the main floor. Lots of room, great location, very private. I would highly recommend if you're in the Custer area. The owner was wonderful to work with...very accommodating to our needs. The cabin is very clean and updated. The beds were comfortable....we had no needs for anything and no complaints.

Excellent stay! Far better than we expected.

  • 5 of 5

I have a large family including 4 daughters. This place was perfect! Everyone had their own space, plenty of bathrooms, lots of beautiful scenery. This place is very secluded which is exactly what we wanted. On that note, pack food! Custer is the closest town and it is 25 minutes away. Too far to run for 3 meals a day. There is zero cell reception outside the cabin; but the AT&T micro-cell inside the cabin worked well for phones and Internet access. Literally minites from two national parks; this place was a fantastic place to unplug and recharge. One thing to take note of is the 4th bedroom. It is in the basement far removed from the rest of the bedrooms. My younger kids were terrified at the thought of being down there alone; but my teenager did ok. Jody, the owner is great and very responsive. Highly recommend this place and we will be back.

Great time had by all.

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at the house. More than enough room and the hill was not as tough to get up as I thought it would be. My husband laughed at my concerns. Wonderful weather, had coffee on the deck two out of three mornings. And enjoyed a bottle of wine and cheese out there on Friday night. Lots of laughing with great friends and a part of the Hills we have never explored made for a great weekend. Only think I can suggest is a cheap hairdryer in one of the bathrooms would be a great addition, as it would be one less thing to pack. Great directions to find the home. Like the fact there are no neighbors really close by to worry about when your laughter gets a little loud, or maybe it just seemed loud to us. Did most of our own cooking so we could just relax and take our time with meals. Thanks again for a great time.

The Gerritsens and Sehrs.
