Gulf Beaches House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 2 Baths, spacious, huge private deck

'Aargh House' - our cedar paradise

The ideal location of this home features both privacy and the convenience to all the island's amenities. Relax in the enclosure of oak, pine and palm, yet still be able bike or walk 3 short blocks to the grocery, restaurants and shops. When it's time for a swim, just slip out your backyard down your private path and shortcut toward the beach which is only a 3-minute walk away.

This uniquely designed, multi-level home is extremely spacious, with a large open living area featuring a hardwood floor, a dramatic vaulted ceiling, skylights, a 46'' HDTV with cable/Blu-ray and comfortable furniture, incl. queen sleeper. If you are cooking in the kitchen, you can still be part of the conversation and fun, as the kitchen is open to the living and dining area. Enjoy your meals indoors or out, as the tiled dining room opens onto a large 40' X 12' sun-drenched, partially covered deck equipped for ultimate relaxation and sun worshiping. If it gets too hot there, simply take a break and relax in the palm tree shaded hammock in the tree grove next to the bbq pit.

Up three steps from the living area are two spacious bedrooms (queen beds) with 32' HDTVs/DVDs and shared bathroom in the hallway. Up the flight of stairs is the light-filled master bedroom and bath. Have a glass of wine on your private deck with its view of the Gulf, then keep your sliding screened door open and let the sound of the ocean lull you to sleep.

The very private outdoor hot-and-cold shower is great after a day at the beach, or just for cooling off.

Make sure you bring Rover to this pet friendly home. He'll enjoy relaxing in his 10' x 10' covered outdoor pen after a run on the beach. (A $300 security deposit is required, refunded within 48 hours if a common sense pet policy is followed.)

Only 8 miles away, Apalachicola is a great day trip. In 2008, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named Apalachicola a Distinctive Destination: architecture, beautiful antebellum homes, a true working waterfront are some of the reasons for this award. Only 2 other Florida cities share this distinction, Key West and Fernandina Beach. Shop, eat, and tour this historic district of old Florida.

Keywords: Sheltered, pet-friendly, conveniently located, close to beach and bay

About Gabriele Schafer-Fracaro

My brother-in-law (a contractor) and my husband and I (grunt labor) bought and renovated this home ourselves. Our family is scattered and we wanted to make a home where we can all get together and relax in the off-season. Life is short, right? The name 'Aargh House' -- yes, ok, beach, ships, pirates -- derived from the fact that during renovation we must have each said 'aargh' about 100 times a day as we searched high and low for misplaced tools, dripped paint and hammered our thumbs. Soon aargh turned into Aargh House which kept us laughing so the name stuck. Aargh House is a very very very fine house.

Gabriele Schafer-Fracaro purchased this house in 2011

Why Gabriele Schafer-Fracaro chose Florida

We had rented houses in St. George a few years in a row and loved the area. So one day we just started looking to buy and this house was a stunning find.

What makes this house unique

This is an architecturally beautiful home, with vaulted ceilings and skylights on a large lot. Technically, it's a corner lot, but the 'road' that is supposed to lead all the way to the beach is partially grown over and so acts as our second driveway. We carved a private path through it for a quicker walk to the beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your house was very nice,we enjoyed our stay. Beach was a bit windy but still warm enough to swim. Having the dog pen outside was nice for the times that we didn’t want to take them with us. The kids had forgotten how many stars you can see at night without city lights to interfere. Thanks for the opportunity!

Great house for family with kids and dogs.

  • 5 of 5

We came to SGI because the beaches are dog friendly. This house was great for a family of 7 with 2 dogs. It was as described, but even better. The dog pen was pretty secure - I was a little wary at first, but it worked out well. There are 3 bedrooms, so there was some doubling up. The kitchen and living area are very large and the inside is very nice. We cooked there a couple of nights and enjoyed food from the (very close) restaurants.

Everything is very close and convenient. The beach was a little further of a walk than we anticipated, so we ended up hauling everyone in our van and parking a couple of blocks over. The area of the beach that is directly in line with the house is nice and private, not very close to the public beach entrance.

We mostly stayed at the house or beach. We went to the State Park at the eastern end of the island one day, and that was nice. We did a little bit of shelling. We also visited the nature center that is on the mainland near the start of the bridge to SGI. So there are things to do, but when you come here relax. Enjoy the beach and the house.

We are already talking about coming back next year, and if we do we are going to definitely try to book this house again.

Great Vacation at Aargh House June 2016

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation on St. George Island staying at the Aargh House. The house was spacious and clean and had all of the needed supplies in the kitchen. The property is close to the main part of town but due to the beautiful yard and trees, still seemed secluded and private. The outside shower was great for washing the sand from the beach. We used all three decks on our stay. The owners were friendly and helpful, pleasant to work with.

We enjoyed the Blue Parrot, Paddy's Oyster Bar (live music). The owners recommended the Jolly Rogers for any rental needs. We ended up renting a golf cart and tooled all around the Island on it during the week. Made it great for hauling chairs, etc. to the beach as well. If you go to the beach area directly across from the house it is private and quiet. Loved it. My husband and kids spent a morning hiking in the State Park and enjoyed that while I shopped in Apalachicola. I would recommend this house to all and we hope to return someday. The Batson Clan.

Family Beach Trip

  • 5 of 5

I have been to St. George Island 3 times. This time was by far my favorite place to stay! We traveled with 6 adults and 2 dogs and had plenty of room. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, baking dishes, plates, cups, a waffle maker that cooks 2 waffles at a time, a blender, toaster, coffee pot, microwave and even a mini cupcake maker! This was wonderful as we cooked all but one meal while on vacation. The home sits in a nice quiet area and the beach is about a 3 minute walk away. The house is spotlessly clean and has a washer and dryer for your use. The outside shower was a huge plus for getting off the extra sand before you go into the house.

Here are a few tips:

Bring extra kitchen towels if you plan on being there for a week and plan on cooking most of your meals (there were only 2)

Bring extra bath towels unless you don't mind doing laundry all the time (there were only 6 bath towels)

Bring baby powder and sprinkle on your feet and other sandy areas before you leave the beach, the sand literally just falls off, which also makes showering easier and saves on the sewer system.

Bring an extra bottle of body wash for the outside shower, that also helps remove sand.

You can drive a vehicle to Gorrie Drive and park along the road near the beach access so that you don't have to carry all of your beach items.

Best grocery store for selection and prices is the Piggly Wiggly Express (not too mention they are super friendly)

I hope your stay will be as wonderful as ours was!

We had a lovely two plus months at Aargh House and would happily return is it were closer to medical care. The house is beautiful and nicely situated with utmost privacy yet close to the beach. We highly recommend it!

Quiet, relaxing and private!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been vacationing on St. George Island for about 10 years. We have stayed in a number of rental houses, but after staying at the' Aargh House' we have found our perfect hideaway. This house is wonderful! The setting is peaceful and serene with an absolutely gorgeous view from the upper deck. We love the house's open concept and lighting with the many skylights. The mid island location works well for restaurants, shopping and the park which our dog loves to visit. On the island be sure to visit Blue Parrott with it's open-air or indoor dining right on the gulf, the Beach Pit for breakfast, and Up the Creek in Apalachicola for lobster bisque, fried shrimp or conch patties. A shopping trip would not be complete without a stop at the Tin Shed in Apalachicola as well as the many other quaint shops there and on the island. We also truly appreciate the great customer service from the owners. We have already booked our return to this little peace of heaven.
