About Yumi Wallies
My name is Yumi, I manage the property and am the wife of the owner. Whenever we have the time we go to the apartment in Italy, to get away from everything for vacation and enjoy the beauty of this place. We are experienced travellers and have been to quite some places in the world thus knowing what to expect from a place we choose to stay at for vacation. We don't rent this place to just anyone. We not only apply our high standards to this place and the satisfaction of the guests but also expect the guests to have certain standards and qualities. If someone isn't capable of showing basic manners in the inquiry we won't rent the place to this person because we believe there is obviously a relation between treating your fellow human beings and treating rental property. If someone isn't able to show a certain amount of respect to other persons he or she surely also has trouble showing it to property of others. We don´t need such guests nor their money and will refuse inquiries which show a lack of basic decency. You can also visit us on www.facebook.com/casagolfotigullio
Why Yumi Wallies chose Chiavari
The apartment is for three generations in the family of the owner. From the grandfather who was among the first to buy in 1964 when the apartment complex was built (because he had been in this area on vacation and loved it so much) to the owner who inherited it from his grandmother. It's a second 'home' for him and it never gets old or boring going there, especially since we do the whole maintenance of the apartment ourselves.
What makes this Apartment unique
The panoramic view from the apartment is what stuns us most. There is just nothing like it anywhere else, not even nearby. Combine this with a private access to the sea and clean beaches and hiking trails not far away and you have in my opinion the perfect vacation location. Also the people around in the complex are mostly Italian so it feels like a vacation to Italy. The complex itself was build into a pinewood tree and most of the trees were preserved so it is rather small and since it has only one dead end street only people who absolutely have to go there drive in there. The apartment is at the western end of the complex close to the forest and there's lots of green around and also many trees and plants in the complex between the buildings. Apart from the high season (early June till late August) the complex is often deserted and only on weekends other people are around. This turns the complex in a small sanctuary away from it all.

Peaceful location with amazing views!
This apartment is a lovely place to spend a peaceful holiday in an amazing part of Italy. The main attraction of the apartment has to be the views, and they don't disappoint. If anything, the pictures don't do them justice! There are also two great outside spaces from which to enjoy the views. Outside the living room and main bedroom is a spacious terrace large enough for a large table and several chairs. If that's not enough, there's also a huge roof terrace with a gazebo to help to keep cool.
The apartment was part of a complex with lots of other apartments. When we were there at the end of May, nearly all of the others were locked up with their shutters drawn, so I suspect these are not inhabited except during the high season. This made the apartment particularly peaceful with no noticeable noise at all during the night.
The owners were very kind and provided detailed instructions on how to reach the property. The steep drive down from the road looks daunting at first but the instructions tell you exactly what to do and I soon got the hang of it. The property itself is accessed via a keypad, the combination of which is sent by email, so there's no need to arrange to meet and hand over keys. You just turn up and let yourself in.
The apartment itself is spotlessly clean and well equipped with a real home-away-from-home feel. The kitchen had herbs, spices, kitchen towel, and cleaning supplies. The bathroom was furnished with soap, shampoo, and even bubble bath.
The TV boasts of having more than 800 satellite channels in different languages, though the vast majority of them were German. There are a few English language news channels if you want to keep up with what's happening back at home.
The only downside to the apartment was the size. There's no getting away from the fact that it's pretty small. The bathroom and kitchen, in particular, are quite cramped. You certainly won't be cooking up any huge feasts. But, then again, if you're on holiday in Italy, you're better off going out to a local restaurant anyway. There was enough space for the two of us, especially as we spent a lot of time sitting outside, so the size of the apartment didn't affect our holiday.
Very easy check in, brilliant communication via e mail from the host, the apartment is fully fitted out with everything you could possibly need, great kitchen with high quality crockery and utensils, brilliant washing machine and dishwasher, very comfortable seating in the living room and a very large 3D television, the bed was super comfortable, the view from the terrace is outstanding, we chose not to bother hiring a car as the public transport is very good and cheap, unfortunately there are no shops or bars near the apartment so you must make sure you get your supplies in the supermarket, there is a good one in Chiavari, if you buy your bus ticket at a tobacconist you pay less than you would if you buy it on the bus, the train service is very good indeed, the apartment was super clean with plenty of towels and toiletries. I would highly recommend this apartment and hope to return again in the future.
Great stay, fantastic apartment and hosts
Yumi and Michael couldn't have been better hosts - communication was prompt and comprehensive, and super helpful. The apartment is in a fantastic location, immaculately clean, and wonderfully stocked - it has everything you could possibly need, and more. If you're looking to stay in the area, stay here!
Lovely retreat with incredible views
This spot provided amazing views and peaceful relaxation. We stayed in April, before the high season and for us, as it turned out, was perfect timing as we had the entire complex basically to ourselves. No other neighbors gave this spot a fantastic sense of peace and retreat. The apartment is fully equipped. We opted to not hire a car. We were able to get around easily on the local bus route because there is a stop right at the entry to the condo complex. We bought bus tickets for 1.80 euros at the small store inside the train station and visited Chiavari and Rapallo and enjoyed both seaside towns. The apartment is somewhat isolated so we suggest you get provisions in town and stock the fridge for your stay. The kitchen was well appointed and we enjoyed our evening meals on their lovely plates. One day we didn't leave at all and this was the most relaxed I've been since I can recall. Took a nap in the canvas hanging chair and melted into the peace and quite with stunning views of the peninsula and Portofino. Our hosts were very gracious answering questions and giving tips. They replied right away every time and this was appreciated. The photos are very accurate. Thanks to our gracious hosts for a lovely stay away from the crowds and near charming seaside towns.
Thank you for your marvellous review. We liked having you as guests and are happy you had the complex nearly for yourself before the more busy summer season starts.
Kind regards from us
Very nice place to stay
We went here for one week and had a great time.
The weather was very warm and luckily the apartment has airco. That was needed! On the terras it was pretty warm and sunny between about 18 and 20h as the sun just passed the screens and was not yet behind the tree on the right. After 20h the temperature was really good. There were many things against muscito's in every room of the apartment, but luckily we haven't seen many of them.
The apartment is really well equiped and we missed nothing during our stay. Very good!!
Best part of the apartment: Most likely the awesome Tempur beds!! We all slept exeptional good!!
The way down to the pool and the sea was one we didn't like that much. The way down was 160 steps on different staircases and after that you also need the cable car down a steap hill. Once down the sea and pool were very nice and in the sea the water is very clear so there're a lot of fish that can be seen.
Staying there with kids of 12 and 14years internet is some kind of necessity and then 400/600MB a day is not very much (but we managed combined with our own internetcards).
The owner really be reached at any time of the day and responded quick to our questions. That gives a nice feeling for when something happens.
We had a great week here and really loved the apartment. Would we return? For the apartment definitely! With our kids in combination with internet and the way down to the sea and the pool? We don't know?!
New: the internet volume is now 800MB/day.
thanks for your review. We are happy you liked the apartment.
We know that the internet volume isn´t large. We try to give our guests the biggest volume available. In your case we managed to give you more (over 800MB per day). In the surroundings are free Wifi spots (like for example Free Ligurian Wifi in the cities).
We are constantly looking for a Flatrate or a bigger volume. The problem is, there is no such offer (yet), because the apartment complex is surrounded by a protected nature zone and is not located in the city.
In the moment there exists an offer with more or unlimited internet we will book it immediately and write it on the website.
The apartment complex (and therefore the stairs to the ropeway/cablecar station) is located at the steep coast. There is only one street in the complex and you can use it instead of the stairs. There are many ways down to the pool. You can also use only one staircase down. You have to overcome about 50 m altitude and the cablecar will overcome the last 100 m altitude to the sea.
We hope you were able to enjoy the clear water and swimming and diving with the fish.
We are happy you liked the Tempur beds and the apartment and we loved to have you as a guest. Thank you for the compliments. We try to be reachable 24/7

Fantastic Vacation apartment with Hotel experience
I absolutely loved Michael's place!!! It offers a breath-taking view and is situated in the middle of a typical italian landscape. The place itself has the highest quality of beautiful interior design, modern powerful air-conditioning for hot summer days, a well equipped kitchen (if you want to take a shot at fixing italian cuisine yourself), large 3D-flatscreen TV and the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in! Even the kids room (which is just as cozy for adults) had those mattresses that mold to your body!
I felt like in a hotel but with the unique liberty and privacy that only a private apartment can offer. Plus, Michael is a fantastic host...and thought of everything while furnishing the place....and I mean EVERYTHING! There were smoke detectors in every room and even a carbon monoxide detector, grill on the terrace, mounted ashtray for smokers, floats for swimming, a little herb garden with lemon grass, thyme, mojito mint etc. and even toys for kids. He also finds a solution to any problem that might arise and was able to give me valuable insider tipps about the area. All in all I felt very safe and well-taken care of!
The region also has offers a multitude of activities to offer like great hiking/biking, world-class gelato (Italian ice cream), authentic Italian restaurants, boat trips, boat rental possibilities and of course the world famous Portofino with classical, picturesque Italian architecture. The location between two medium-sized towns (10 minutes drive to next town) means you get the tranquility of the countryside with plenty of opportunity for adventure trips, plus the perks of town life including markets packed with local specialties, minus the noisy bustle and gawks of tourists of a big metropolis.
I was fully satisfied with my stay and can highly recommend Casa Golfo Tigullio for a really authentic Italy experience!
The apartment is perfectly located at the steep coast. Off the main road in a quiet environment but close to everything important. The apartment complex was integrated into a pine wood forest so there's lots of green. Even though on the map it looks like that a railroad is going right through the place due to the location at the steep coast the railroad runs in a tunnel deep in the rocks and is therefore absolutely not to hear at all.
The complex has smaller blocks of building columns with many trees in between so the feeling you get when you look around is far away from a 'concrete jungle'. Also the people around in the complex are mostly Italian so it feels like a vacation to Italy. The complex itself is rather small and since it has only one dead end street only people who absolutely have to go there drive in there. The apartment is at the western end of the complex with a view of the wild steep coast landscape. Being located in the pine wood forest turns the complex in a small sanctuary away from it all. Directly from the apartment you can walk/hike to the Sea as well as into the mountains.
Due to the location at the steep coast driving into the complex might be a bit tricky depending on your driving skills and your car. I provide a detailed description of how to drive into the complex.
Genoa with it's museums and the famous Acquario di Genova (Aquarium) is 30 mi away and connects you with it's ferry harbor to the rest of the Mediterranean Sea.
Nizza (France) is only a two hour drive away to the west, Florence the same on the East.In the North you can reach Milan, Parma and Turin in the same time by car.
The eternal city Rome is a four and a half hour drive as well as Venice.
You have the possibility to look inside a manganese mine 12 mi away with a guided tour in various languages. Hiking in Cinque Terre with it's beautiful Via Dell`Amore is around 30 mi away and also easy to reach by train in a short time.
The amazing thing about the location of the apartement is that you have as well the sea and the mountains or as the Italians say: 'Mare e Monti', close by. So you can go for a hike during the day and cool down at the Beach afterwards. Also Whale watching at Genoa around 25 mi away is possible. The area offers great possibilities for activities on shore, off shore and under the sea. This is the perfect place to stay if you want to spend your vacation on just one location because the closer region offers everything but also if you want to discover more places of Italy or the rest of Europe or the Mediterranian neighbor countries.
