Deirdre Oringer purchased this barn in 1950
This is a historical family property...stories forthcoming upon arrival...if you so choose!
Quiet, back road to Truro which means you can avoid the summer traffic if you so desire. From our driveway you can get to the bay, kettle pond, bike ride, walk, go to town, the library, shop, out to eat & golf, all while avoiding the Route 6 traffic!
I loved this little cottage so much it's hard to know where to begin! It was immaculate! Cleaner than my own home and I'm pretty tidy! The space was thoughtfully and beautifully appointed. The colors were at once cheerful and soothing. It was far from the madding crowd of the Cape and you can still get to restaurants and shopping quickly if you want to. The location is convenient to going to the ponds and the shore, often allowing you to completely bypass the craziness of Rte 6. Bound Brook beach is all you'll ever need for the perfect Cape Cod beach experience and you can bike there! The owners were friendly and helpful without being hovering or intrusive. I liked that! All in all, it was a great experience and a great value. I'd go back again in a heartbeat.
Nestled in the wild wind blown hills of Cape Cod, only a few miles from beaches galore. You can decide on the quiet side of the peninsula, with beaches and ponds, and natural preserves. Beautiful walks or drives or bike rides only minutes from your door, (no traffic here!), or the ocean side with it’s wild waves and wonderful winds. The ocean side is only a few miles the other direction, beautiful drive, and easy to bike to. The town of Wellfleet itself is powerful and sweet. There is a lot of history here, with fabulous restaurants, bars and shops, and the living oyster farms and working harbor….Only a short drive away are all the other quaint cape cod towns with Provincetown at the end of the peninsula, maybe 30 minutes away.
The Barn is clean and bright and airy, with all the comforts and amenities you could want. The beds were comfortable, the sheets all cotton and yummy blankets, starry nights. It has been lovingly fixed up and decorated by the owners, who live on the property and have grown up on the Cape. If you want to be left alone you will, or if you want some history from the ‘natives’ they will happily accommodate you, I’m sure. Very friendly owners. I will return over and over whenever I can. I have shared this wonderful location with friends who keep coming back too!
You won’t be disappointed with this lovely respite.
Our second visit to this beautiful Wellfleet location. An immaculate two-story loft cottage, once a horse barn; this is a serenely wooded, safe and quiet retreat. We bought food at local fish market and farm stands and cooked healthful meals throughout our week-long visit. Our son completely loved the deck, swing, outdoor shower and wooded areas for play. We found a different beach every day. The hosts are attentive and helpful while allowing their guests complete privacy. The perfect place to relax, renew and experience healing.
My husband & I spent 3 nights enjoying the property and surrounding area in June. Deidre provided great input on things to do and see that were off the beaten path. Visiting in the offseason is a must if you can -- no crowds and a more laidback experience of this beautiful place. The barn is beautifully decorated and lots of space (ideal for a family or group of friends).
We have been in love with Wellfleet for several years now, and we have at last found a home to rent that we love as well. Deirdre and Lisa are a pleasure to talk with, and I really enjoyed learning about the history of the property. They were very available for any questions we had.
The barn is just as it looks in the photos on this page - it is clean, bright, and airy. The owners have taken obvious care in making the space feel comfortable and lovely, from the paint colors to the well placed art and accents.
We traveled with our 7 year old son, and he appreciated the two tree swings in the yard, as well as the platform in one of the trees. He also enjoyed choosing each night between the Harry Potter bed or the bed in the other private nook upstairs.
We all enjoyed the chickens that came over to visit each afternoon!
The location is perfect for us - quiet and secluded-feeling, but a short drive or bike ride from town.
We are already thinking ahead to when we can book the house for next summer!
This rental is truly special and is in a superb location. From the moment we drove up the driveway to find this little cottage nestled in the woods, we knew we'd have a peaceful place to call home for seven days. Morning lovers will appreciate the soft crow of the rooster at the owners' house next door, and the "chicken welcome committee" that sometimes greets you upon an afternoon return! The cottage looks just like it does in these photos - softly decorated, impeccably clean, and bright and airy. The washer/dryer in the bathroom is a big plus for families - and active cyclists like us who appreciate having clean bike shorts! Those who desire an outside connection to the world will enjoy the satellite television, and cell phone and 3G signals were strong.
The cottage is less than two miles from downtown Wellfleet. We enjoyed cycling into town to visit the shops and Wednesday's farm market. Provincetown, the Cape Cod Rail Trail, and beaches and lighthouses were all just 10-20 minutes away. We hope to be back!!
